Time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry and principal components analysis were used in real time to monitor the progress of curing reactions on the surface of a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) and diglycidyl ether of bisphenol F (DGEBF) epoxy resin blend reacted with the diamine hardener isophorone diamine at different time intervals. Molecular ions in the mass spectra that characterized the curing reactions steps, including blocking, coupling, branching, and crosslinking, were identified. The aliphatic hydrocarbon ions were correlated to the curing reaction rate, and this indicated that coupling and branching occurred much faster than the blocking and crosslinking curing reactions steps. The total conversion of the coupling and branching reaction steps were followed on the basis of changes with time in the relative ion intensity of molecular ions assigned to the DGEBA/DGEBF, aliphatic hydrocarbon, epoxide, and aromatic ring structures. Indicative measures of crosslinking density were monitored through the observation of changes in the ratio of the relative intensities of the aliphatic hydrocarbon and hydroxyl molecular ions over time. The curing reaction conversion was established by the observation of the changes in the relative ion intensity of the molecular ions that were related to the DGEBA/ DGEBF molecules.

This study examined Australian fur seal behavioural responses to boat approaches at breeding colonies in Bass Straight. Results indicated that responses varied based on previous exposure to boats, approach distance, and time of day, and provided valuable information to management agencies regarding the effective management of ecotourism.

A fusuline fauna consisting of 9 species of 4 genera from the Xiala Formation of the Mujiucuo section, Xainza County, Tibet, China is described. The fusuline fauna is dominated by Nankinella and Chusenella and indicates a Midian (Late Guadalupian) age. The earliest record of fusuline fauna during the Midian in the Lhasa Block suggests that the block rifted later than the Qiangtang Block to the north and the Baoshan and Tengchong blocks to the east, all of which yield much earlier fusuline faunas of Yakhtashian (Artinskian) age, but had drifted away from Gondwana to a relatively warm temperate zone in the Late Guadalupian (Middle Permian).

A method for measuring the volume of air in the lungs at the time of underwater weighing is described. A low concentration of hydrogen is used as a tracer gas in a closed-circuit rebreathing system. At the end of a normal exhalation the subject is connected to a respiratory bladder containing 2 L of air with a small admixture of hydrogen. After an equilibration period of five breaths the subject submerges completely, together with the bladder, and underwater weight is measured. Lung volume, at the time of weighing, is determined by hydrogen dilution. Using this method, the coefficient of variation for body density in the same individual was 0.23%.

Knowledge of estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PgR) and human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER2) status is necessary for determining the optimal treatment of breast cancer patients. At the same time, the discordance between marker profiles (ER/PR and HER2) of primary and metastatic breast cancer is well documented. Whether discordant cases are secondary to “clonal selection” in the face of targeted anti-estrogen or anti-HER2 therapy or whether they are a laboratory artifact is still debated; both scenarios are likely. This article outlines current modalities for ER, PR, and HER2 testing in primary breast carcinoma and its metastases and reviews prospective and retrospective studies that have addressed these issues, as well as recent advances in the field.

Diets of the pipefish Stigmatopora nigra were analysed to determine if food availability was causing S. nigra to distribute according to habitat edge effects. Gut analysis found little difference in the diets of S. nigra at the edge and interior of seagrass patches, regardless of time of day or season. Fish diets did, however, vary with seagrass density: S. nigra in denser seagrass consumed more harpacticoid copepods and fewer planktonic copepods. The lack of difference in prey eaten by S. nigra at the edge and interior of patches suggests either that food was not determining S. nigra distribution patterns within patches or that differences in fish densities across patches meant that relative fish–prey densities were similar at edge and interior positions. Alternatively, any edge effects in diet might be masked by gradients in seagrass structure.

This paper looks at the theoretical conditions underpinning unique localization of synchronized multiple emitters using Time-of-Arrival measurements subjected to the data-association problem. The necessary fundamental requirements to solve the so-called ghost node problem associated with sensor arrays are examined. We derive a measurement bound for ideal situations and the underlying concepts are illustrated via simulations.

The objective of this study is to investigate the impacts of mixed use developments on parking requirements. Along with the renewed interests in mixed use development, shared parking concept has been a focus for traffic engineers, local governments and mixed use developers in recent years. With the help of a case study of Gold Coast city in Australia, this study has identified that shared parking significantly reduces the overall parking requirements of mixed use developments. However, to be shared parking more effective, the type and the size of various land uses within a particular mixed use development should favour the concept. For example, offices and hotels can go side by side as the time-of-day parking requirements and peak parking demand do not conflict each other. A series of time-of-day parking occupancy rates have been developed for typical land use categories to identify such effectiveness.
