This study examines how survey design characteristics impact on participant satisfaction, future intentions to complete surveys, and intention to recommend the survey to others, based on panel members, extracted from three different panels, who randomly received one out of eight developed surveys, varying length, involvement and interactivity. The experiment was designed for an Australian industry client. The multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA hereafter) results suggest that there are differences based on the panels used, and longer surveys are viewed more positively. Interaction occurs between panels and involvement, but other two way interaction effects are insignificant. Implications for survey design and future research are discussed.

This paper proposes a new test of the null hypothesis that the parameters in a cointegrated panel data regression are equal across the cross-section. The asymptotic distribution of the new test statistic is derived and simulation results are provided to suggest that it performs very well in small samples. An empirical application to the monetary exchange rate model is also provided.

Wire is a intermediate language to enable static program analysis on low level objects such as native executables. It has practical benefit in analysing the structure and semantics of malware, or for identifying software defects in closed source software. In this paper we describe how an executable program is disassembled and translated to the Wire intermediate language. We define the formal syntax and operational semantics of Wire and discuss our justifications for its language features. We use Wire in our previous work Malwise, a malware variant detection system. We also examine applications for when a formally defined intermediate language is given. Our results include showing the semantic equivalence between obfuscated and non obfuscated code samples. These examples stem from the obfuscations commonly used by malware.

Mg-Zn binary alloys with concentrations between 0 and 2.8wt% Zn have been prepared and processed via hot rolling and annealing to produce specimens with a strong basal texture and a range of grain sizes. These have been deformed in tension, a condition in which the deformation is dominated by prismatic slip. This data has been used to assess the Hall-Petch parameter as a function of Zn concentration for deformation dominated by prismatic slip. Pure magnesium showed non-linear Hall-Petch behaviour at large grain sizes, and this is compared to the values for prismatic slip measured on single crystals. The differences between critical resolved shear stress measurements made through single crystal, polycrystal and mathematical modelling techniques are also discussed.

This paper presents a quantifying measure for heteroskedasticity of a time series. In this research, heteroskedasticity levels are measured by decomposing the examined time series recursively into homoskedastic segments. Each segment of the examined time series is decomposed into smaller segments if it tests positively to heteroskedasticity tests. The final quantified value of the heteroskedasticity level is the number of homoskedastic segments. The proposed measure is robust and detects heteroskedasticity in small average variance datasets.

The thermodynamics of binary sII hydrogen clathrates with secondary guest molecules is studied with Monte Carlo simulations. The small cages of the sII unit cell are occupied by one H2 guest molecule. Different promoter molecules entrapped in the large cages are considered. Simulations are conducted at a pressure of 1000 atm in a temperature range of 233?293 K. To determine the stabilizing effect of different promoter molecules on the clathrate, the Gibbs free energy of fully and partially occupied sII hydrogen clathrates are calculated. Our aim is to predict what would be an efficient promoter molecule using properties such as size, dipole moment, and hydrogen bonding capability. The gas clathrate configurational and free energies are compared. The entropy makes a considerable contribution to the free energy and should be taken into account in determining stability conditions of binary sII hydrogen clathrates.

In this paper the Binary Search Tree Imposed Growing Self Organizing Map (BSTGSOM) is presented as an extended version of the Growing Self Organizing Map (GSOM), which has proven advantages in knowledge discovery applications. A Binary Search Tree imposed on the GSOM is mainly used to investigate the dynamic perspectives of the GSOM based on the inputs and these generated temporal patterns are stored to further analyze the behavior of the GSOM based on the input sequence. Also, the performance advantages are discussed and compared with that of the original GSOM.
