 The research examined the development, design and use of 360° feedback in sports coaching. The results suggest that using outcomes in competition as a means of evaluating coaching performance overlooks many aspects of their work. 360° feedback is capable of providing a useful and insightful means of evaluating coaching performance.

This review integrates 12 years of research on the relationship between academic self-efficacy and university student's academic performance, and known cognitive and motivational variables that explain this relationship. Previous reviews report moderate correlations between these variables, but few discuss mediating and moderating factors that impact this relationship. Systematic searches were conducted in April 2015 of psychological, educational, and relevant online databases for studies investigating academic self-efficacy and performance in university populations published between September 2003 and April 2015. Fifty-nine papers were eligible. Academic self-efficacy moderately correlated with academic performance. Several mediating and moderating factors were identified, including effort regulation, deep processing strategies and goal orientations. Given the paucity of longitudinal studies identified in this review, further research into how these variables relate over time is necessary in order to establish causality and uncover the complex interaction between academic self-efficacy, performance, and motivational and cognitive variables that impact it.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate the alternative study load measures (dichotomous full-time/part-time classification and the number of units enrolled) and their association to student performance by using student data from a final year accounting unit in a large Australian university.

Design/methodology/approach – Using regression analysis, the authors compare the two measures to ascertain the explanatory power of the two approaches in explaining student performance.

Findings – A positive association is found between study loads and student performance when using the “number of units enrolled” measure. This relationship was not found when the dichotomous measure (full-time vs part-time) was used. The results suggest that a scaled measure of study loads is a better measure compared to a binary (dichotomous) measure.

Research limitations/implications – The study will assist future researchers to better control for study loads, and also to gain a better understanding of the association between study loads and student performance. This may possibly assist educational institutions and academics to use a more appropriate pedagogical design in the structure of courses when determining study load allocations across the different cohorts.

Practical implications – This study will help in methodology of future researchers controlling for study loads and student performance.
Originality/value – The study adds to existing literature by providing an alternate study load measure in methodology for controlling for student performance.

Concrete has been successfully used to build strong and economic structures. However severe environmental exposures slowly deteriorate concrete strength until complete failure reducing its designed service life. Fiber Reinforced Polymer “FRP” has been recently introduced in the construction industry to strengthen and retrofitting several structural elements including columns. In this research two types of FRP have been used to wrap concrete column in order to increase its capacity; these are Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer “CFRP” and Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer “GFRP”. Twelve short concrete columns have been wrapped with one and two FRP layers including CFRP and GFRP to evaluate their mechanical performance. Mechanical testing has shown that, in general, concrete columns wrapped with FRP produced higher modulus of elasticity compared to the control sample. Results showed that one layer of CFRP have 85.8% increases where as one layer of GFRP showed an increase of 64.5%. Furthermore, two layers of CFRP and GFRP showed 112.5% and 77.2% increase respectively.
