Absolute intensity measurements have been made on the fundamental vibrations of ethylene and four of its deuteroisotopes. The bands were pressure broadened with nitrogen at 50 atmos, and the intensities were determined by the method of Wilson and Wells except that the observed optical density was integrated against logv rather than v. Normal coordinates have been calculated, and the intensities have been interpreted in terms of quantities (∂p/∂Si) giving the change in dipole moment with respect to each internal symmetry coordinate. Data from the different isotopic species have been used to eliminate ambiguities in the interpretation. Effective bond moments are calculated for each symmetry coordinate.

Orthogonal internal coordinates are defined which have useful properties for constructing the potential energy functions of triatomic molecules with two or three minima on the surface. The coordinates are used to obtain ground state potentials of ClOO and HOF, both of which have three minima.

Lipoxygenases (LOX) contribute to vascular disease and inflammation through generation of bioactive lipids, including 12-hydro(pero xyeicosatetraenoic acid (12-H(P)ETE). The physiological mechanisms that acutely control LOX product generation in mammalian cells are uncharacterized. Human platelets that contain a 12-LOX isoform (p12-LOX) were used to define pathways that activate H(P)ETE synthesis in the vasculature. Collagen and collagen-related peptide (CRP) (1 to 10 g/mL) acutely induced platelet 12-H(P)ETE synthesis. This implicated the collagen receptor glycoprotein VI (GPVI), which signals via the immunoreceptor-based activatory motif (ITAM)- containing FcR chain. Conversely, thrombin only activated at high concentrations ( 0.2 U/mL), whereas U46619 and ADP alone were ineffective. Collagen or CRP-stimulated 12-H(P)ETE generation was inhibited by staurosporine, PP2, wortmannin, BAPTA/AM, EGTA, and L-655238, implicating src-tyrosine kinases, PI3-kinase, Ca2 mobilization, and p12-LOX translocation. In contrast, protein kinase C (PKC) inhibition potentiated 12-H(P)ETE generation. Finally, activation of the immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motif (ITIM)– containing platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule (PECAM-1) inhibited p12-LOX product generation. This study characterizes a receptor-dependent pathway for 12-H(P)ETE synthesis via the collagen receptor GPVI, which is negatively regulated by PECAM-1 and PKC, and demonstrates a novel link between immune receptor signaling and lipid mediator generation in the vasculature. Treatment of [UO2(OTf)(2)] or [UO2I2(thf)(3)] with 1 equiv. of CyMe4BTBP in anhydrous acetonitrile led to the formation of [UO2(CyMe4BTBP)(OTf)(2)] (1) and [UO2(CyMe4BTBP)I-2] (2) which crystallized as the cationic forms [UO2(CyMe4BTBP)(py)][OTf](2) (3) and [UO2I(CyMe4BTBP)][I] (4) in pyridine and acetonitrile, respectively. These compounds are unique examples of structurally characterized actinide complexes with a BTBP molecule; this ligand adopts a planar conformation in the equatorial plane of the {UO2}(2+) ion. In pyridine, 1 is dissociated into [UO2(OTf)(2)(PY)(3)] and free CyMe4BTBP and the thermodynamic parameters (K, Delta H, Delta S) of this equilibrium have been determined by H-1 NMR spectroscopy. The ethoxide derivative [UO2(OEt)(CyMe4BTBP)][OTf] (5) crystallized from a solution of I in a mixture of ethanol and acetone under air, and the dinuclear mu-oxo complex [{UO2(CyMe4BTBP)}(2)(mu-O)][I](2) (6) was obtained from [UO2I(thf)(2.7)] and CyMe4BTBP. The crystal structures of 6 and of the analogous derivatives [{UO2(py)(4)}(2)(mu-O)][I](2)(7) and [{UO2(TPTZ)(py)}(2)(mu-O)][I-3](2)(8) exhibit a flexible [{UO2}-O-{UO2}](2+) moiety.

New tri-functional ligands of the type R2NCCCH2SCH2CCNR2 (where R = iso-propyl, n-butyl or iso-butyl) were prepared and characterized. The coordination chemistry of these ligands with uranyl and lanthanum(III) nitrates was studied by using the IR, (HNMR)-H-1 and elemental analysis methods. Structures for the compounds [UO2(NO3)(2)((Pr2NCOCH2SCH2CONPr2)-Pr-i-Pr-i)] [UO2(NO3)(2)((Bu2NCOCH2SCH2CONBu2)-Bu-i-Bu-i)(2)] [La(NO3)(3)((Pr2NCOCH2SCH2CONPr2)-Pr-i-Pr-i)(2)] and [La(NO3)(3)((Bu2NCOCH2SCH2CONBu2)-Bu-i-Bu-i)(2)] were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. These structures show that the ligand acts as a bidentate chelating ligand and bonds through both the carbamoyl groups to the uranyl and lanthanum(III) nitrate groups. Solvent extraction studies show that the ligand can extract the uranyl ion from the nitric acid medium but does not show any ability to extract the americium (III) ion. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. [MoO(O-2)(2)(PyCOXH)(H2O)] and PMePh3[MoO(O-2)(2)(PyCO)] (PyCOXH = Pyridine-2-carboxaldoxime and PyCOH = Pyridine-2-carboxylic acid) have been synthesized. Both complexes have been characterized by physico-chemical and spectroscopic methods; in addition, the carboxylate complex has been structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography. The carboxylate complex is a more efficient catalyst than the oxime complex for epoxidation of olefins and shows excellent catalytic activity for the substrates: cyclooctene, cinnamyl alcohol, allyl alcohol and 1-hexene.

The bifunctional carbamoyl methyl sulfoxide ligands, PhCH2SOCH2CONHPh (L-1), PhCH2SOCH2CONHCH2Ph (L-2), (PhSOCH2CONPr2)-Pr-i (L-3), PhSOCH2CONBu2 (L-4), (PhSOCH2CONBu2)-Bu-i (L-5) and PhSOCH2CON(C8H17)(2) (L-6) have been synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic methods. The selected coordination chemistry of L-1, L-3, L-4 and L-5 with [UO2(NO3)(2)] and [Ce(NO3)(3)] has been evaluated. The structures of the compounds [UO2(NO3)(2)((PhSOCH2CONBu2)-Bu-i)] (10) and [Ce(NO3)(3)(PhSOCH2CONBu2)(2)] (12) have been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction methods. Preliminary extraction studies of ligand L-6 with U(VI), Pu(IV) and Am(III) in tracer level showed an appreciable extraction for U(VI) and Pu(IV) in up to 10 M HNO3 but not for Am(III). Thermal studies on compounds 8 and 10 in air revealed that the ligands can be destroyed completely on incineration. The electron spray mass spectra of compounds 8 and 10 in acetone show that extensive ligand distribution reactions occur in solution to give a mixture of products with ligand to metal ratios of 1 : 1 and 2 : 1. However, 10 retains its solid state structure in CH2Cl2.

Light-assisted synthesis of a Ru(VI) nitrido complex by the reaction of azide with a Ru(III) complex
Resumo:
Reaction of Ru(III)(L)(dmf)Cl-3 (1) (L = 4,4,4',4'-tetramethyl-2,2'- bisoxazoline, dmf = N,N-dimethylformamide) with an excess of sodium azide in a methanol-water mixture leads to the isolation of the sodium salt of a Ru( VI) nitrido complex of the tetraanion of N,N'-bis-(2,2-dimethyl-1-hydroxyethyl)-1,2-ethanediamide ( L'H-4; H a dissociable proton) of the formulation Na[Ru(L')(N)(H2O)].1.4H(2)O (2). Complex 2 is not generated in the absence of light. A tentative mechanism for the reaction is proposed and a Ru(IV) intermediate, Na[Ru(L')(N-3)(H2O)] . 2CH(3)OH.2H(2)O (3), isolated.

Several cis-dioxomolybdenum complexes of two tridentate ONS chelating ligands H2L1 and H2L2 ( obtained by condensation of S-benzyl and S-methyl dithiocarbazates with 2-hydroxyacetophenone) have been prepared and characterized. Complexes 1 and 2 are found to be of the form MoO2 (CH3OH)L-1.CH3OH and MoO2L, respectively, (where L2-=dianion of H2L1 and H2L2). The sixth coordination site of the complexes acts as a binding site for various neutral monodentate Lewis bases, B, forming complexes 3 - 10 of the type MoO2LB (where B=gamma-picoline, imidazole, thiophene, THF). The complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, various spectroscopic techniques, ( UV-Vis, IR and H-1 NMR), measurement of magnetic susceptibility at room temperature, molar conductivity in solution and by cyclic voltammetry. Two of the complexes MoO2(CH3OH)L-1.CH3OH (1) and MoO2L1(imz) (5) were structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Oxo abstruction reactions of 1 and 5 led to formation of oxomolybdenum(IV) complex of the MoOL type.

Background: The regulation of platelet function by pharmacological agents that modulate platelet signaling haspharmacolo proven a successful approach to the prevention of thrombosis. A variety of molecules present in the diet have been shown to inhibit platelet activation, including the antioxidant quercetin. Objectives: In this report we investigate the molecular mechanisms through which quercetin inhibits collagen-stimulated platelet aggregation. Methods: The effect of quercetin on platelet aggregation, intracellular calcium release, whole cell tyrosine phosphorylation and intracellular signaling events including tyrosine phosphorylation and kinase activity of proteins involved in the collagen-stimulated glycoprotein (GP) signaling pathway were investigated. Results: We report that quercetin inhibits collagen-stimulated whole cell protein tyrosine phosphorylation and intracellular mobilization of calcium, in a concentration-dependent manner. Quercetin was also found to inhibit various events in signaling generated by the collagen receptor GPVI. This includes collagen-stimulated tyrosine phosphorylation of the Fc receptor gamma-chain, Syk, LAT and phospholipase Cgamma2. Inhibition of phosphorylation of the Fc receptor gamma-chain suggests that quercetin inhibits early signaling events following stimulation of platelets with collagen. The activity of the kinases that phosphorylate the Fc receptor gamma-chain, Fyn and Lyn, as well as the tyrosine kinase Syk and phosphoinositide 3-kinase was also inhibited by quercetin in a concentration-dependent manner, both in whole cells and in isolation. Conclusions: The present results provide a molecular basis for the inhibition by quercetin of collagen-stimulated platelet activation, through inhibition of multiple components of the GPVI signaling pathway, and may begin to explain the proposed health benefits of high quercetin intake.
