Although the relationship between "mere exposure" and attitude enhancement is well established in the adult domain, there has been little similar work with children. This article examines whether toddlers' visual attention toward pictures of foods can be enhanced by repeated visual exposure to pictures of foods in a parent-administered picture book. We describe three studies that explored the number and nature of exposures required to elicit positive visual preferences for stimuli and the extent to which induced preferences generalize to other similar items. Results show that positive preferences for stimuli are easily and reliably induced in children and, importantly, that this effect of exposure is not restricted to the exposed stimulus per se but also applies to new representations of the exposed item. This paper deals with the design of optimal multiple gravity assist trajectories with deep space manoeuvres. A pruning method which considers the sequential nature of the problem is presented. The method locates feasible vectors using local optimization and applies a clustering algorithm to find reduced bounding boxes which can be used in a subsequent optimization step. Since multiple local minima remain within the pruned search space, the use of a global optimization method, such as Differential Evolution, is suggested for finding solutions which are likely to be close to the global optimum. Two case studies are presented.

In 1997, the United Kingdom started the world's first commercial digital terrestrial television service. The system used was the European Digital Video Broadcast - Terrestrial (DVB-T) but due to technological constraints at the time, the system chosen was the 2K system - a system that uses 1705 carriers to convey the digital television services through a hostile terrestrial environment. Today, these constraints are no longer applicable but in order to maintain backwards compatibility to the older set top boxes, the 2K system is still used. The 2K system has the disadvantage of excluding the possibiliiy of employing a Single Frequency Network (SFN) - something that can help minimise the required bandwidth for television services. This paper will demonstrate a computationally inexpensive soft decision Quadrature Amplitude Modulation technique that can reject the multipaths. (1).

We compared the quantity of wheat bait consumed by Norway rats (Rattus norvegicus) from: (i) wooden bait trays, made as safe as possible from non-target animals using materials available at trial sites, and (ii) three different, proprietary tamper-resistant rat bait boxes. A balanced Latin square experimental design was used to overcome operational biases that occur when baits of different types are applied simultaneously at the same sites. The consumption of bait from the four different types of bait placement differed significantly and accounted for more than 76% of the total variation. The amount of bait eaten by rats from the bait trays was approximately eight times greater than the quantity eaten from the tamper-resistant bait boxes. The three bait box designs appeared to deter bait consumption by rats to a similar extent. Tamper-resistant bait boxes are essential tools in the application of rodenticides in many circumstances but their use should not be mandatory when it is possible to make baits safe from non-target animals by other means.
