Thin place

This publication is a full colour bi-lingual catalogue for the exhibition Thin Place, curated by Ciara Healy for Oriel Myrddin. It includes artwork by five interdisciplinary artists based in West Wales, the West of Ireland and London. The exhibition, symposium and education programme, funded by the Arts Council of Wales aims to show how the fields of art, literature, science and theology are interconnected, especially when considering the nature of reality, the concept of an otherworld and the prospect of an afterlife. Included in the catalogue are texts especially commissioned for the exhibition by professionals who work in disciplines outside of the art world. It also includes an introductory essay by Ciara Healy.

Nowhere

Nowhere is part on the series notebook architecture. The painting works with a language of forms to construct rather than represent architectural space. What the painting seeks to construct is a dialogue on depth wherein painting is conceived as quasi phenomenological project.

Hidden

The exhibition Hidden researches the relationship between an artist book and paintings that use the form of a book. The exhibition investigates the overlaps between reading and looking.

Screens

Summer Saloon presented at Lion and Lamb an exhibition venue dedicated to showing current painting. My work "Screens" constructs rather than represents an existing architectural space. The painting investigates an experience of phenomenological depth distinct from the model of perspective depth.

The perfect death - Horizons ( title of painting Horizon )

The exhibition investigates the unrepresentable and considers the distinct ways invisible forces can be given visual manifestation through painted images.

One and One and One

One and One and One is a collaborative project organized by Tim Renshaw with Outside Architecture. The work in the exhibition explored the incomplete and addresses it as an active process that opens up architectural and spatial structure to new forms of experience.

The First World War in biscuits

This is a mixed-media exhibition incorporating objects, sound and film, and drawing on archives held at Reading Museum and MERL. It focuses on the role of the Huntley and Palmers biscuit factory in Reading during the First World War.

Greek printing outside Greece, from the 15th century to e-books

An exhibition of rare Greek printed books, with printed items dating from 1488 to recent decades, and rarely seen in one setting. This exhibition focuses on the typographic continuity of Greek literary culture.

Snapshots from 1985–1995

This exhibition brings together material from the first decade of platform-independent design. It introduces the mature proprietary digital technology that existed just before 1985, and presents artefacts that represent key chapters in the transition to platform-independent digital typefaces, in combination with digital tools for page layout. The exhibition includes the first issues of the key journals of the period, which both represented the new approaches, and offered critique for the impact of the new technologies on typographic design.

Civic geographies of architectural enthusiasm

In this short intervention, we introduce the display and walking tour that formed our contribution to the ‘civic geographies’ exhibition and session at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) Annual Conference in July 2012. We then move on to explore the notion of ‘civic geographies’ in relation to the architectural enthusiasm, specifically a strong emotional attachment to buildings, exhibited by members of The Twentieth Century Society. In doing so, we suggest that a more critical account of the role of enthusiasm in the civic realm is required for two important reasons: first, because such groups can be understood to be doing geography beyond the academy in the civic realm; and second, because enthusiast knowledges and practices are active in the (re)constitution of civic landscapes of various kinds. Enthusiasts participate in caring for buildings, preserving heritage, making community spaces, as well as creating and curating local histories. An understanding of who is participating in making these civic geographies, why, how, and with what consequences, is therefore crucial.
