The classical scattering cross section of two colliding nuclei at intermediate and relativistic energies is reevaluated. The influence of retardation and magnetic field effects is taken into account. Corrections due to electron screening as well as due to attractive nuclear forces are discussed. This paper represents an addendum to [l].

Within the independent particle model we solve the time-dependent single-particle equation using ab initio SCF-DIRAC-FOCK-SLATER wavefunctions as a basis. To reinstate the many-particle aspect of the collision system we use the inclusive probability formalism to answer experimental questions. As an example we show an application to the case of S{^15+} on Ar where experimental data on the K-K charge transfer are available for a wide range of impact energies from 4.7 to 90 MeV. Our molecular adiabatic calculations and the evaluation using the inclusive probability formalism show good results in the low energy range from 4.7 to 16 MeV impact energy.

Total energy SCF calculations were performed for noble gas difluorides in a relativistic procedure and compared with analogous non-relativistic calculations. The discrete variational method with numerical basis functions was used. Rather smooth potential energy curves could be obtained. The theoretical Kr - F and Xe - F bond distances were calculated to be 3.5 a.u. and 3.6 a.u. which should be compared with the experimental values of 3.54 a.u. and 3.7 a.u. Although the dissociation energies are off by a factor of about five it was found that ArF_2 may be a stable molecule. Theoretical ionization energies for the outer levels reproduce the experimental values for KrF_2 and XeF_2 to within 2 eV.

A LCAO-MO (linear combination of atomic orbitals - molecular orbitals) relativistic Dirac-Fock-Slater program is presented, which allows one to calculate accurate total energies for diatomic molecules. Numerical atomic Dirac-Fock-Slater wave functions are used as basis functions. All integrations as well as the solution of the Poisson equation are done fully numerical, with a relative accuracy of 10{^-5} - 10{^-6}. The details of the method as well as first results are presented here.

Results of relativistic (Dirac-Slater and Dirac-Fock) and nonrelativistic (Hartree-Fock-Slater) atomic and molecular calculations have been compared for the group 5 elements Nb, Ta, and Ha and their compounds MCl_5, to elucidate the influence of relativistic effects on their properties especially in going from the 5d element Ta to the 6d element Ha. The analysis of the radial distribution of the valence electrons of the metals for electronic configurations obtained as a result of the molecular calculations and their overlap with ligands show opposite trends in behavior for ns_1/2, np_l/2, and (n -1 )d_5/2 orbitals for Ta and Ha in the relativistic and nonrelativistic cases. Relativistic contraction and energetic stabilization of the ns_1/2 and np_l/2 wave functions and expansion and destabilization of the (n-1)d_5/2 orbitals make hahnium pentahalide more covalent than tantalum pentahalide and increase the bond strength. The nonrelativistic treatment of the wave functions results in an increase in ionicity of the MCl_5 molecules in going from Nb to Ha making element Ha an analog of V. Different trends for the relativistic and nonrelativistic cases are also found for ionization potentials, electronic affinities, and energies of charge-transfer transitions as well as the stability of the maximum oxidation state.

Relativistic molecular calculations within the Dirac-Slater scheme have been used in a study of the electronic structure of 6d-metal superheavy hexafluorides. The theoretical results are compared with calculations and measurements of the homolog 4d- and 5d-metal hexafluorides. Large spin-orbit splitting dominates the electronic structure and even has the same order of magnitude as the crystal-field splitting for the valence electrons for the superheavy molecules. Ionization energies have been calculated using a transition state procedure.

X-ray transition energies for two-muonic atoms are calculated. The basis are relativistic self-consistent-field calculations including the corrections normally known in muonic atoms plus the vacuum polarization, magnetic interaction and retardation in the \mu-\mu-interaction, the specific mass correction and the configuration interaction.

Listed here for the elements Z = 100, fermium, to Z = 173 are energy eigenvalues and total energies found from relativistic Dirac-Fock-Slater calculations. The effect of high ionization on the energy eigenvalues is presented for two exarnples. The use of these tables in connection with the energy levels of superheavy elements and molecular orbital (MO) x-ray transitions in superheavy quasiatoms, is discussed. In addition, abrief comparison between the results of the Dirac-Fock-Slater and Dirac-Fock calculations is given.

The modification of the two center screened electronic Coulomb potential due to relativistic kinematical effects is investigated in the Coulomb gauge. Both nuclear and electronic charges were approximated by Gaussian distributions. For ion velocities v/c =0.1 the effect may roughly be approximated by a 0.1% increase in the effective strength for the monopole term of the two center potential. Thus for ion kinetic energies not exceeding a few MeV/nucleon this relativistic contribution induces small effects on the binding energy of the 1 \omega-electrons except for super critical charges.

The chemical elements up to Z = 172 are calculated with a relativistic Hartree-Fock-Slater program taking into account the effect of the extended nucleus. Predictions of the binding energies, the X-ray spectra and the number of electrons inside the nuclei are given for the inner electron shells. The predicted chemical behaviour will be discussed for a11 elements between Z = 104-120 and compared with previous known extrapolations. For the elements Z = 121-172 predictions of their chemistry and a proposal for the continuation of the Periodic Table are given. The eighth chemical period ends with Z = 164 located below Mercury. The ninth period starts with an alkaline and alkaline earth metal and ends immediately similarly to the second and third period with a noble gas at Z = 172.

The electronic states of small AI_n (n = 2 - 8) clusters have been calculated with a relativistic ab-initio MOLCAO Dirac-Fock-Slater method using numerical atomic DFS wave-functions. The excitation energies were obtained from a ground state calculation of neutral clusters, and in addition from negative clusters charged by half an electron in order to account for part of the relaxation. These energies are compared with experimental photoelectron spectra.
