Study on Solid Waste Management : An Economic Analysis with Respect to Ernakulam District

This thesis analyzed waste generation and waster disposal problems in municipalities and Cochin Corporation in Ernakulam district.Then the potential of resource recovery and recycling from biodegradable and non bio-degradable waste is established.The study further focused on the need for segregation of waste at the source as biodegradable and non biodegradable solid waste.The potential of resource recovery is explained in detail through the case study.The thesis also highlights the economically viable and environmental friendly methods o f treatment of waste.But the problem is that concerted and earnest attempts are lacking in making use of such methods.In spite of the health problems faced,people living near the dump sites are forced to stay there either because of their weak economic background or family ties.The study did not calculate the economic cost of health problems arising out of unscientific and irresponsible methods of waste disposal.

A study on the organisational commitment of professionals with respect to various aspects of organisational socialisation

Organisational commitment of various groups of professionals seems to be moderated by the differences of the groups as well as of the socialisation experiences Demographic variable ‘age’ and the semi-structural variable ‘experience’ cause a difference in the level of commitment. Similarly, the professional and organisational differences moderate the level of commitment. From the point of view of the organisations, the socialisation experiences if differ can be used as tool to process and enhance the level of commitment of professionals of various groups.The ‘Socialisation effect’ does not depend on the professional or demographic differences. Socialisation level is moderated only by the organisational specialities. It is purely an organisational variable. However, the difference in the socialisation levels as found among the professionals can cause a significant difference in the levels of organisational commitment of professionals

Characterization of Histone H2A Derived Antimicrobial Peptides, Harriottins, from Sicklefin Chimaera Neoharriotta pinnata (Schnakenbeck, 1931) and Its Evolutionary Divergence with respect to CO1 and Histone H2A

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are humoral innate immune components of fishes that provide protection against pathogenic infections. Histone derived antimicrobial peptides are reported to actively participate in the immune defenses of fishes. Present study deals with identification of putative antimicrobial sequences from the histone H2A of sicklefin chimaera, Neoharriotta pinnata. A 52 amino acid residue termed Harriottin-1, a 40 amino acid Harriottin-2, and a 21 mer Harriottin-3 were identified to possess antimicrobial sequence motif. Physicochemical properties andmolecular structure ofHarriottins are in agreement with the characteristic features of antimicrobial peptides, indicating its potential role in innate immunity of sicklefin chimaera. The histone H2A sequence of sicklefin chimera was found to differ from previously reported histone H2A sequences. Phylogenetic analysis based on histone H2A and cytochrome oxidase subunit-1 (CO1) gene revealed N. pinnata to occupy an intermediate position with respect to invertebrates and vertebrates

Cumulative Approach to Customer Satisfaction with Respect to Compact Segment Car Users

Earlier studies on measurement of customer satisfaction are based on either transaction specific or overall approaches. The transaction specific approach evaluates customer satisfaction with single components in the whole purchase process but the overall satisfaction was based on all the encounters or experiences to the customer throughout the purchase process. Consumers will comment on particular events of their purchase process when asked about transaction-specific satisfaction and they will comment their overall impression and general experiences in overall satisfaction (Bitner & Hubbert 1994) Through a critical review on the literature, it has been identified a new approaches to customer satisfaction, say, cumulative approaches that can be more useful than overall and transaction specific approaches for strategic decision making (Fornell et al 1996). The cumulative approach to customer satisfaction doesn’t study earlier due to the difficulty in operationalization of the concept. But the influencers of customer satisfaction are context specific and the prevailing models doesn’t give the sources of variations in the satisfaction, the importance of cumulative approaches to customer satisfaction has emerges that lights to a new research. The current study has focused to explore the influencers of overall customer satisfaction to form individual elements that can be used to identify the cumulative customer satisfaction.

Studies on Selected Myctophid Fishes in Arabian Sea with respect to their Status in Deep Sea Trawl Bycatch, Length-Weight Relationship, Reproductive Biology and Population Dynamics

Available information on abundance of myctophids and their utilisation indicate that there is excellent scope for development of myctophid fisheries in Indian Ocean. Most of the conventional fish stocks have reached a state of full exploitation or over-exploitation. Hence there is need to locate new and conventional fishery resources in order to fill in the supply-demand gap, in the face of increasing demand for fish. Information on length-weight relationship, age and growth, spawning season, fecundity and age at maturity and information on bycatch discards are required for sustainable utilization of myctophid resource in the Indian Ocean
