A study of the information seeking bebavior of science and technology teachers and researchers of Cocbin University of Science and Technology and University of Kerala in the cbanged library environment

Information communication technology (IC T) has invariably brought about fundamental changes in the way in which libraries gather. preserve and disseminate information. The study was carried out with an aim to estimate and compare the information seeking behaviour (ISB) of the academics of two prominent universities of Kerala in the context of advancements achieved through ICT. The study was motivated by the fast changing scenario of libraries with the proliferation of many high tech products and services. The main purpose of the study was to identify the chief source of information of the academics, and also to examine academics preference upon the form and format of information source. The study also tries to estimate the adequacy of the resources and services currently provided by the libraries.The questionnaire was the central instrument for data collection. An almost census method was adopted for data collection engaging various methods and tools for eliciting data.The total population of the study was 957, out of which questionnaire was distributed to 859 academics. 646 academics responded to the survey, of which 564 of them were sound responses. Data was coded and analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software and also with the help of Microsofl Excel package. Various statistical techniques were engaged to analyse data. A paradigm shift is evident by the fact that academies push themselves towards information in internet i.e. they prefer electronic source to traditional source and the very shift is coupled itself with e-seeking of information. The study reveals that ISB of the academics is influenced priman'ly by personal factors and comparative analysis shows that the ISB ofthc academics is similar in both universities. The productivity of the academics was tested to dig up any relation with respect to their ISB, and it is found that productivity of the academics is extensively related with their ISB. Study also reveals that the users ofthe library are satisfied with the services provided but not with the sources and in conjunction, study also recommends ways and means to improve the existing library system.

Dynamic mechanical analysis of binary and ternary polymer blends based on nylon copolymer/EPDM rubber and EPM grafted maleic anhydride compatibilizer

The dynamic mechanical properties such as storage modulus, loss modulus and damping properties of blends of nylon copolymer (PA6,66) with ethylene propylene diene (EPDM) rubber was investigated with special reference to the effect of blend ratio and compatibilisation over a temperature range –100°C to 150°C at different frequencies. The effect of change in the composition of the polymer blends on tanδ was studied to understand the extent of polymer miscibility and damping characteristics. The loss tangent curve of the blends exhibited two transition peaks, corresponding to the glass transition temperature (Tg) of individual components indicating incompatibility of the blend systems. The morphology of the blends has been examined by using scanning electron microscopy. The Arrhenius relationship was used to calculate the activation energy for the glass transition of the blends. Finally, attempts have been made to compare the experimental data with theoretical models.

Metamorphism and Fluid Inclusion Studies of Charnockites and Associated Rocks from the Madurai Granulite Block , Southern India with Special Reference to Graphite Mineralization

The present research is aimed at studying the charnockites and associated rocks of the Madurai Granulite Block (MGB), especially in terms of their field settings, texture, mineralogy, and mineral chemistry analyzing their petrogenesis with the help of thermobarometrical studies and geochronological constraints. The mechanism of charnockitization by the influx of CO2 rich fluids and its relation to the graphite mineralization is actually a matter of discussion and study. The objectives of the present study are, to delineate petrological and structural relationship of charnockites and associated gneissic rocks, to study the field and petrogenetic aspects of graphite mineralization in the MGB, to establish and re-evaluate the P-T conditions of formation of the rocks with the aid of thermbarometric computations and to compare with the earlier studies, characterization of graphite with XRD, Raman spectroscopy and isotope studies together with a search in to its genesis and its relation to the high-grade metamorphism of the terrain, to evaluate the role of CO2 bearing fluids in the processes of charnockitization as well as in the genesis of graphite within the high-grade terrain and to delineate the metamorphic geochronology of selected rocks using ‘monazite dating’ technique with EPMA.

Studies om the Antiulcerogenic and Antihepatotoxic Potential of Chitosan and Glucosamine in Eeperimental Rats

The present study examined the antiulcer effect of glucosamine on mucosal antioxidant defense system in ibuprofen-induced peptic ulcer in male albino rats. The results of the present study indicate that the pre-oral administration of chitosan and glucosamine maintain near to the normal status the activities of the mucosal antioxidant enzymes and the level of GSH (Glutathione), which protect mucosa against oxidative damage by decreasing the lipid peroxidation and strengthening the mucosal barrier, and which are the first line of defense against exogenous ulcerogenic agents. In this study indicate that the oral pre-treatment of chitosan and glucosamine can prevent ibuprofen-induced peptic ulcer in rats.This study can be concluded that co-administration of chitsosan and glucosamine can effectively prevent the isonized and rifampicin induced hepatotoxicity in rats.Comparatively, chitosan was found to have better results than glucosamine in alleviating the hepatic disorders
