Optical absorption characteristics of rat blood affected by diabetes has been studied using photoacoustic (PA) technique. PA spectrum of blood depends on the molecular structure of haemoglobin. The peak value ratio ylQ increases with increase in the diabetic state. Externally added glucose to normal blood does not show any increase in y//3 ratio as seen in the diabetic condition . The increase in yl,8 ratio may be due to the decrease in DPG level and the resultant shift from R -> T conformation of majority of diabetic haemoglobin.

SnS thin films were prepared using automated chemical spray pyrolysis (CSP) technique. Single-phase, p-type, stoichiometric, SnS films with direct band gap of 1.33 eV and having very high absorption coefficient (N105/cm) were deposited at substrate temperature of 375 °C. The role of substrate temperature in determining the optoelectronic and structural properties of SnS films was established and concentration ratios of anionic and cationic precursor solutions were optimized. n-type SnS samples were also prepared using CSP technique at the same substrate temperature of 375 °C, which facilitates sequential deposition of SnS homojunction. A comprehensive analysis of both types of films was done using x-ray diffraction, energy dispersive x-ray analysis, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, optical absorption and electrical measurements. Deposition temperatures required for growth of other binary sulfide phases of tin such as SnS2, Sn2S3 were also determined

The effects of feeding of 6-propyllhiouracil (6-I'fU) and potyunsaturatcd fatty acids (I'UFA) independently and ill combination and administration (ip) of a single close of Iriiodothyronine (I',) (2.51ig/IOOg body wl) along with feeding of 6- PTU and PUFA were studied in cal brain. Dopamine (DA), 5-hydroxytryplophan (5-IIl'I'), serolouin (5-Ill), 5-hydioxy indole acetic acid (5-111AA), norepinephrine (NF) :uul ceinephrinn (I?I'l) contenls were assayed in the hypothalannls and ccrc bral cortex regions. It was found that 6-P"l'U Iccding resulted in decrease in dopamine, 5-III', 5 II I I' and 5 IIiAA in both regions. In animals fed wills PUFA followed by adnliuislralion of T,. the I)A level was found normal.

Moderate pyridoxine deficiency in adult male Sprague-Dawley rats results in significant hypertension, associated with a general sympathetic stimulation , including an increase in the turnover of norepinephrine in the heart. Treatment of these rats with pyridoxine reversed blood pressure to normal within 24 h. Treatment of pyridoxine-deficient rats with clonidine or x-methyl dihydroxyphenylalanine (x-methyl DOPA) also reduced the blood pressure of these animals to normal . There was also a significant increase in the Bma, of high and low affinity [3H]p-amino-clonidine binding to crude synaptosomal membrane preparations of the brain stem of deficient rats indicating chronic underexposure of)(, adrenoreceptors to endogenous norepinephrin.

The high-affinity I'HJGALA binding significantly decreased in PII and NDEi\ rats and the receptor affinity decreased in NDEA and increased in LN rats compared with control . in NDEA. displacement analysis of I'I IIGABA with muscimol showed loss of low-allinity site and a shill of high-allinity cite towards low-allinity . The present thesis is an attempt to understand the role of GABA, GABAA and GABAB receptors in the regulation of liver cell proliferation using in vivo and in vitro models. The work also focuses on the brain GABAergic changes associated with normal and neoplastic cell growth in liver and to delineate its regulatory function. The investigation of mechanisms involving mitogenic models without cell necrosis may contribute our knowledge about both on cell growth, carcinogenesis, liver pathology and treatment. Objectives of the present study are, to induce controlled liver cell proliferation by partial hepatectomy and lead nitrate administration and uncontrolled cell proliferation by N-nitrosodiethylamine treatment in male Wistar rats, the changes in the content of GABA, GABAA,GABAB in various rat brain regions. To study the GABAA and GABAB receptor changes in brain stem, hypothalamus, cerebellum and cerebral cortex during the active cortex during the period of active DNA synthesis in liver of different experimental groups. The changes in GABAA and GABAB receptor function of the brain stem, hypothalamus and cerebellum play an important role sympathetic regulation of cell proliferation and neoplastic growth in liver. The decrease in GABA content in brain stem, hypothalamus and cerebellum during regeneration and neoplasia in liver. The time course of brain GABAergic changes was closely correlated with that of heptic DNA synthesis. The functional significance of these changes was further explored by studying the changes in GABAA and GABAB receptors in brain.

Reduction of radar cross -section of dihedral corner reflectors using simulated corrugated surface (.SCS) is reported. This technique is found lo be more effective in the reduction of RCS or corner reflectors for normal incidence . A typical reduction of 40-50 dB is achieved using this method

Dual beam mode-matched thermal lens method has been employed to measure the heat diffusion in nanofluid of silver with various volumes of rhodamine 6G, both dispersed in water. The important observation is an indication of temperature dependent diffusivity and that the overall heat diffusion is slower in the chemically prepared Ag sol compared to that of water. The experimental results can be explained assuming that Brownian motion is the main mechanism of heat transfer under the present experimental conditions. Light induced aggregation of the nanoparticles can also result in an anomalous diffusion behavior.

Thermal diffusivity (TD) measurement on commercial K-10 and KSF montmorillonites was carried out by photoacoustic technique. The TD of the montmorillonites after methylene blue adsorption changed with the dye concentration. The repeatedly adsorbed samples showed a lesser TD than the single adsorbed samples. After methylene blue adsorption the acid leached K-10 samples showed well defined changes in TD when compared to the ordered KSF samples.

An open photoacoustic cell operating in the low range of chopping frequency has been employed to evaluate the thermal diffusivity values of intrinsic InP and InP doped with S, Sn and Fe. The experimental set-up is calibrated by the evaluation of thermal diffusivity value of pure Si and GaAs. The present investigation shows that doped samples show a reduced value for thermal diffusivity compared to intrinsic sample. From the analysis of data it is also seen that nature of dopant clearly influences the thermal diffusivity value of semiconductors. The results are explained in terms of phonon assisted heat transfer mechanism in semiconductors
