The present study on chaos and fractals in general topological spaces. Chaos theory originated with the work of Edward Lorenz. The phenomenon which changes order into disorder is known as chaos. Theory of fractals has its origin with the frame work of Benoit Mandelbrot in 1977. Fractals are irregular objects. In this study different properties of topological entropy in chaos spaces are studied, which also include hyper spaces. Topological entropy is a measures to determine the complexity of the space, and compare different chaos spaces. The concept of fractals can’t be extended to general topological space fast it involves Hausdorff dimensions. The relations between hausdorff dimension and packing dimension. Regular sets in Metric spaces using packing measures, regular sets were defined in IR” using Hausdorff measures. In this study some properties of self similar sets and partial self similar sets. We can associate a directed graph to each partial selfsimilar set. Dimension properties of partial self similar sets are studied using this graph. Introduce superself similar sets as a generalization of self similar sets and also prove that chaotic self similar self are dense in hyper space. The study concludes some relationships between different kinds of dimension and fractals. By defining regular sets through packing dimension in the same way as regular sets defined by K. Falconer through Hausdorff dimension, and different properties of regular sets also.

Dynamics of Nd:YAG laser with intracavity KTP crystal operating in two parallel polarized modes is investigated analytically and numerically. System equilibrium points were found out and the stability of each of them was checked using Routh–Hurwitz criteria and also by calculating the eigen values of the Jacobian. It is found that the system possesses three equilibrium points for (Ij, Gj), where j = 1, 2. One of these equilibrium points undergoes Hopf bifurcation in output dynamics as the control parameter is increased. The other two remain unstable throughout the entire region of the parameter space. Our numerical analysis of the Hopf bifurcation phenomena is found to be in good agreement with the analytical results. Nature of energy transfer between the two modes is also studied numerically.

The thesis begins with a review of basic elements of general theory of relativity (GTR) which forms the basis for the theoretical interpretation of the observations in cosmology. The first chapter also discusses the standard model in cosmology, namely the Friedmann model, its predictions and problems. We have also made a brief discussion on fractals and inflation of the early universe in the first chapter. In the second chapter we discuss the formulation of a new approach to cosmology namely a stochastic approach. In this model, the dynam ics of the early universe is described by a set of non-deterministic, Langevin type equations and we derive the solutions using the Fokker—Planck formalism. Here we demonstrate how the problems with the standard model, can be eliminated by introducing the idea of stochastic fluctuations in the early universe. Many recent observations indicate that the present universe may be approximated by a many component fluid and we assume that only the total energy density is conserved. This, in turn, leads to energy transfer between different components of the cosmic fluid and fluctuations in such energy transfer can certainly induce fluctuations in the mean to factor in the equation of state p = wp, resulting in a fluctuating expansion rate for the universe. The third chapter discusses the stochastic evolution of the cosmological parameters in the early universe, using the new approach. The penultimate chapter is about the refinements to be made in the present model, by means of a new deterministic model The concluding chapter presents a discussion on other problems with the conventional cosmology, like fractal correlation of galactic distribution. The author attempts an explanation for this problem using the stochastic approach.

In this paper, a novel fast method for modeling mammograms by deterministic fractal coding approach to detect the presence of microcalcifications, which are early signs of breast cancer, is presented. The modeled mammogram obtained using fractal encoding method is visually similar to the original image containing microcalcifications, and therefore, when it is taken out from the original mammogram, the presence of microcalcifications can be enhanced. The limitation of fractal image modeling is the tremendous time required for encoding. In the present work, instead of searching for a matching domain in the entire domain pool of the image, three methods based on mean and variance, dynamic range of the image blocks, and mass center features are used. This reduced the encoding time by a factor of 3, 89, and 13, respectively, in the three methods with respect to the conventional fractal image coding method with quad tree partitioning. The mammograms obtained from The Mammographic Image Analysis Society database (ground truth available) gave a total detection score of 87.6%, 87.6%, 90.5%, and 87.6%, for the conventional and the proposed three methods, respectively.

The thesis explores the area of still image compression. The image compression techniques can be broadly classified into lossless and lossy compression. The most common lossy compression techniques are based on Transform coding, Vector Quantization and Fractals. Transform coding is the simplest of the above and generally employs reversible transforms like, DCT, DWT, etc. Mapped Real Transform (MRT) is an evolving integer transform, based on real additions alone. The present research work aims at developing new image compression techniques based on MRT. Most of the transform coding techniques employ fixed block size image segmentation, usually 8×8. Hence, a fixed block size transform coding is implemented using MRT and the merits and demerits are analyzed for both 8×8 and 4×4 blocks. The N2 unique MRT coefficients, for each block, are computed using templates. Considering the merits and demerits of fixed block size transform coding techniques, a hybrid form of these techniques is implemented to improve the performance of compression. The performance of the hybrid coder is found to be better compared to the fixed block size coders. Thus, if the block size is made adaptive, the performance can be further improved. In adaptive block size coding, the block size may vary from the size of the image to 2×2. Hence, the computation of MRT using templates is impractical due to memory requirements. So, an adaptive transform coder based on Unique MRT (UMRT), a compact form of MRT, is implemented to get better performance in terms of PSNR and HVS The suitability of MRT in vector quantization of images is then experimented. The UMRT based Classified Vector Quantization (CVQ) is implemented subsequently. The edges in the images are identified and classified by employing a UMRT based criteria. Based on the above experiments, a new technique named “MRT based Adaptive Transform Coder with Classified Vector Quantization (MATC-CVQ)”is developed. Its performance is evaluated and compared against existing techniques. A comparison with standard JPEG & the well-known Shapiro’s Embedded Zero-tree Wavelet (EZW) is done and found that the proposed technique gives better performance for majority of images
