In this paper we have investigated the effect of cavity diameter and wall height on resonance and radiation characteristics of a circular microstrip patch antenna. Experiments were conducted using a fabricated prototype placed inside a cylindrical cavity. The results were compared and verified with simulated data obtained using an electromagnetic simulator. About 9.6 to 10.5 dBi peak gain was obtained from measured and simulated data

Antennas play an important role in determining the characteristics of any electronic system which depends on free space as the propagation medium. Basically, an antenna can be considered as the connecting link between free space and the transmitter or receiver. For radar and navigational purposes the directional properties of an antenna is its most basic requirement as it determines the distribution of radiated energy. Hence the study of directional properties of antennas has got special significance and several useful applications.

Studies on sporulation of four commercially important red (sea-weeds) algae ^(agarophytes) namely Gelidiella acerosa, Gracilaria corticata, G edulis and Hypnea musciformis growing in the vicinity of’ Mandapam coast were carried out from October 1981 to September 1983. During the two years of study; fruiting behavior in the natural population of these species was also investigated. Laboratory experiments were carried out with the four algae sea weeds to collect information on seasonal aspects of spore production and diurnal variation of spore shedding. Detailed studies were made under laboratory conditions to know the effects of some selected environmental factors such as desiccation, salinity, temperature, light intensity and photoperiod on spore output in Gelidiella acerosa, Gracilaria edulis and kypnea musciformis hydrological data were also collected from the inter-tial region around mandapam area. The result obtained on all the above aspects are presented in this thesis

A new compact microstrip antenna element is analyzed. The analysis can accurately predict the resonant frequency, input impedance, and radiation patterns. The predicted results are compared with experimental results and excellent agreement is observed . These antenna elements are more suitable in applications where limited antenna real estate is available

A simple electromagnetically coupled wideband printed microstrip antenna having a 2:1 VSWR bandwidth of 38% covering the 5.2/5.8-GHz WLAN, HIPERLAN2, and HiSWANa communication bands is presented. The large bandwidth is obtained by adding a rectangular metal strip on a slotted square microstrip antenna. The antenna occupies an overall dimension of 42 times 55 times 3.2 mm3 when printed on a substrate of dielectric constant 4. It exhibits good radiation characteristics and moderate gain in the entire operating band. Details of the design along with experimental and simulation results are presented and discussed.

A compact, planar, wideband antenna designed by modifying the coplanar waveguide is presented in this letter. The proposed antenna finds a wide range of applications including advanced wireless systems (AWS), DCS-1800, DCS-1900/PCS/PHS, WiBro, BlueTooth/WLAN/WiBree/ZigBee, DMB, Global Star Satellite Phones, and digital cordless phones. Wide bandwidth > 75% centered at 2.50 GHz, quasi-omnidirectional radiation coverage along with moderate gain and efficiency are the salient features of the antenna. A prototype fabricated on a substrate with dielectric constant 4.4 and thickness 1.6 mm occupies an area of (31times 64) mm2. Details of antenna design and discussions on the effect of various antenna parameters on the radiation characteristics are presented.

Electric permittivity and magnetic permeability control electromagnetic wave propagation th rough materials. I n naturally occu rring materials, these are positive. Artificial materials exhi b iting negative material properties have been reported : they are referred to as metamaterials. This paper concentrates on a ring-type split-ring resonator (SRR) exhibiting negative magnetic permeability. The design and synthesis of the SRR using the genetic-algorithm approach is explained in detail. A user-friendly g raphical user i nterface (G U I ) for an SRR optim izer and estimator using MATLAB TM is also presented

A novel compact RFID tag employing open stubs in a microstrip transmission line is proposed. The prototype of the tag is fabricated on a substrate of dielectric constant 4.4 and loss tangent 0.0018. The tag consists of microstrip open stub resonators and cross polarized transmitting and receiving disc monopole antennas. A prototype of 8 bit data encoded tag is demonstrated in this communication. Method for enhancing the performance of the RFID tag is also proposed. Magnitude or group delay response can be used to decode the tag informations

The paper proposes an octagon shaped Microstrip Patch Antenna suitable for dual band applications. The striking features of this compact, planar antenna are sufficient isolation between the two operating bands and an area reduction of - 29% in comparison to a conventional circular patch antenna operating in the same band

The recent boom in wireless communication industry, especially in the area of cellular telephony and wireless data communication, has led to the increased demand for multi band antennas. In such applications the issues to be addressed are, wide bandwidth and gain, while striving for miniature geometry. A dual frequency configuration useful in GSM1800 and Blue tooth, is one that operates with similar properties, both in terms of reflection and radiation characteristics, in the two bands of interest. Dual frequency operations can be realized by exciting the Microstrip Patch Antenna (MPA) using a single feed [1] or dual feed [2]. In this paper, Conformal FDTD[3] method with Perfect Magnetic Conductor (PMC) applied along the plane of symmetry [4] is used to study the characteristics of an Octagonal MPA. The theoretical results are compared against the experimental and IE3D™ simulated results
