Experimental studies on a compact dual frequency microstrip antenna are presented. This antenna configuration provides an area reduction of 40% compared to a standard rectangular antenna operating at the same frequency without much degradation of the gain. The antenna structure can be modified to achieve the desired ratio between the two resonant frequencies

A new compact dual-band, dual-polarized microstrip antenna is presented. 7'iris antenna resonates at two frequencies with different polarizations: a linearly polarized one for terrestrial communication, and a circularly polarized one for satellite mobile communication. This antenna also provides an area reduction of 70% compared to a standard rectangular patch antenna

Dual frequency operation is achieved from a compact microstrip antenna by loading a pair of narrow slots close to its radiating edges. The two frequencies have parallel polarization planes and similar radiation characteristics. The ratio between the two operating frequencies can be tuned in the range (1.14-1. 24), which is much smaller than that of similar designs. The above excellent radiation characteristics are achieved along with an area reduction of - 75% compared to the standard rectangular patch

Design equations are presented for calculating the resonance frequencies for a compact dual frequency arrow-shaped microstrip antenna. This provides a fast and simple way to predict the resonant frequencies of the antenna. The antenna is also analyzed using the IE3D simulation package. The theoretical predictions are found to be very close to the IE3D results and thus establish the validity of the design formulae

A novel dual frequency design of a square microstrip antenna coaxially fed along the diagonal with a chip capacitor mounted at the bottom of the stub is introduced. This design provides enhanced area reduction and good cross-polarization levels. The antenna design can be used as a compact antenna system where limited size is a major requirement. A dual-port dual-polarized compact microstrip antenna for avoiding cross coupling between the two frequency bands is proposed and analyzed. This antenna offers channel isolation better than 25 dB, and is more compact compared to a conventional rectangular patch. Analytical equations for calculating the resonant frequencies at both ports are also presented. The theoretical calculations are verified using experimental results

A new design of' a dual-frequency dual-polarized square microsh'ip antenna fed along the diagonal, embedded with a square slot having three extended stubs for frequency tuning, is introduced. The proposed antenna was fabricated using a standard photolithographic method and the antenna was tested using the HP 3510(:; Vector Network Analyser. The antenna is capable of generating dual resonant frequencies with mutually perpendicular polarizations and broad radiation pattern characteristics. Such dual-frequency designs find wide applications in personal mobile handsets combining GSM and CDS 1800 modes, and applications in which different frequencies are used for emission and reception such as personal satellite communications and cellular network systems.

An arrow-shaped microstrip antenna with a pair of narrow slots embedded near the non-radiating edges gives wide impedance bandwidth. The experimental and simulated (!E3D) results show that antenna bandwidth is -3.5 times that of a conventional patch with the added advantage of reduced antenna size. The radiation characteristics are found to he uniform throughout the operating band

The antenna also provides an enhanced gain of 10-dB more than its passive counter part. The measured 2:1 VSWR band width is -4% at 790 MHz, which is 2.5 times larger than that of the passive microstrip antenna

very-high-permittivity (e, = 100) multiband dielectrice> e resonator antenna is presented. The compact antenna, excited by a m:'crostrip line, resonates at two frequencies centered around the 1.9- GHz and 2.4-GHz bands with identical polarization . The behavior of the antenna at different positions along the feed line is studied and optimized. Multiple resonances with the same polarization and broad radioticn patterns suggest the suitability of the antenna for multiband wireless application

A novel compact single-layer dual frequency microstrip antenna which uses an H-shaped geometry with two U-shaped slots embedded near the radiation edges, is presented. By changing the design parameters, the lower and higher resonant frequencies can be controlled easily, and a range of frequency ratios (1.716-2.363) can be obtained in this design. For the two operating frequencies of the proposed antenna, the same polarization planes and broadside radiation patterns are achieved. Compared to the regular dualfrequency patch antenna, this antenna can realize a significant size reduction

A novel design of a computer electronically reconfigurable dual frequency dual polarized single feed hexagonal slot loaded microstrip antenna in L-band is introduced in this chapter. pin diodes are used to switch the operating frequencies considerably without much affecting the radiation characteristics and gain. the antenna can work with a frequency ratio varying in the wide range from 1.2 to 1.4. the proposed design has an added advantage of size reduction up to 72.21% and 46.84% for the two resonating frequencies compared to standard rectangular patches. the design also gives considerable bandwidth of up to 2.82% and 2.42 % for the operating frequencies.
