This study examined the existing literature on current early intervention processes for children who are deaf or hard of hearing who are from low-income or minority families. The review of literature includes a framework of understanding the dynamics of low-income households and cultural differences among African Americans, Latin Americans, and American Indians.

The role of siblings in the habilitation of families with children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing

Siblings play a vital role in the health of a family as they adjust to having a child who is deaf or hard-of-hearing. In this project, a series of workshops has been designed for the siblings of children with a hearing loss to help better understand hearing loss and foster healthy sibling relationships.

Acceptance of deafness: a study of family strategies and needs

This paper studies the acceptance strategies used by family members of hearing-impaired children. The study looks at how parents view conferences, counseling and meetings with hearing professionals and other parents of deaf children.

Identification of factors predicting spoken language development in young children with a cochlear implant

This paper examines the factors that are significant predictors of spoken language acquisition in children with cochlear implants. Factors identified include age of cochlear implantation, age of diagnosis, age started hearing aid use, parent educational level, and family income.
