Proceedings of the Senate and Assembly of the State of New York, 1823

Seven pages of proceedings of the Senate and Assembly of the State of New York dated February 27, March 1 and March 6, 1823. Proceedings include a report of the Committee of the Canal System , Memorial of Samuel Wilkeson on the subject of Black Rock and Buffalo Harbors, a report from the Surveyor General of the land reserved to the state at Black Rock, and an Act to incorporate the Niagara Canal Company.

Letter to Thomas Steers of Montreal from Samuel D. Woodruff asking for information on the progress of the patent which will expire on the 16th of March, Feb. 9, 1848.

Letter to Mr. Lee from Samuel D. Woodruff

Letter to Mr. Lee from Samuel D. Woodruff which states that in July the affidavits were sent for the purpose of getting the patent for Lot no.30, Concession 2 in Enniskillen. Mr. Woodruff requests a receipt of that information and he would like to know about the progress on the patent. The left hand of the letter is completely burned away although most of the text is still intact, Feb. 21, 1848.

Letter to Mr. Steers from Samuel D. Woodruff regarding Lot 30, Concession 2 in Enniskillen (1 double sided page). Mr. Woodruff is asking Mr. Steers to inform him if he will attest to the claim of Mr. Clement. This letter is written in pencil and is quite faded but the text is still legible, April 18, 1848.

Letter to Samuel Keefer, engineer on the Welland Canal from Charles H. French. He says that he has no extra bills for work on his contract, Sept. 12, 1848.

Captain Lewis Warrington and others : memorial of Lewis Warrington, Captain in the U.S. Navy, (in behalf of himself and the officers and crew of the U.S. sloop-of-war Peacock); praying that the one half of the proceeds of the Epervier and goods which went into the officers and crew of said vessel, it having been decreed to them by the United States court as captors. April 26, 1848.--

William Van Every fonds, 1784, 1804-1806, 1815-1816, 1828, 1832, n.d.

William Van Every, son of McGregory and Mary Wilcox (Jaycocks) Van Every, was born in New York state in 1765. During the Revolutionary War he joined Butler’s Rangers and served under Captain John McDonnell. He was granted three lots of land in the Township of Niagara, with additional lands granted at later dates. William married Elizabeth, daughter of George Young. Elizabeth was the widow of Col. Frederick Dochstader and mother of Catherine Dochstader, b. 1781. William Van Every died in 1832, his wife Elizabeth in 1851. Both are buried in the Warner Cemetery, in present day Niagara Falls. The children of William Van Every and Elizabeth Young were Mary, Elizabeth, Phoebe, John, Peter, William, Rebecca, Samuel and Joseph. Welland Canal Survey of Lands Samuel Wood Esquire, 1828

Survey map and description of Samuel Wood's land created by The Welland Canal Company. Included is a written description of the land along with a drawing of the land. The same description of the land is also in a deed dated Septmeber 16, 1828 (see county registry 739). Noteable features include; the canal, the tow path, the tow path bridge. Surveyor notes are seen in pencil on the map. The original deed for the land is dated May 16, 1828.
