Diastereoselective Lithiation-Substitution of N-Silyl-Protected-(S)-Tetrahydro-1H-pyrrolo[1,2-c]imidazole-3(2H)-ones and Applications of Their Derivatives

This thesis describes a method involving the preparation of an L-proline-derived imidazolone protected with an N-triethylsilyl group that undergoes diastereoselective lithiation followed by electrophile quench to give C5-substituted products with syn stereochemistry. The N-silylated derivatives may be more easily N-deprotected as compared to previous N-t-Bu analogues to give secondary ureas. These may serve as precursors to N-phenyl chiral bicyclic guanidines or as NHC precursors for synthesis of corresponding complexes.

In this letter Eleanore Celeste talks about attending Church, magazines and her interest in education. She states "the more I learn, the thirstier I am for knowledge." The second letter mentions the Philips estate turning into a seniors facility for women after much talk about it possibly turning into a hospital for wounded officers. This letter is labelled number 50.

Eleanore Celeste is teaching at Lafayette Street School. She states that she likes "this school better than any I've substituted in." She writes about a boy who could not attend school because he had no shoes and the family was living in terrible conditions with barely anything to eat. She has also read some articles about men returning from France and she is hoping that Arthur will return soon. The letter is labelled number 189.

Eleanore Celeste has been shopping for warm hats and dresses at Koenige, Beyers and Bambergers. She then visited with friends/neighbours the Glaesers. Her family is heading to Rahway, New Jersey. The letters are labelled number 48, 49, and 50.
