Eleanor Ostrander Land Grant, 1801

Eleanor Ostrander, daughter of John Clark, and wife of Jacob Ostrander, petitioned for land on March 28, 1797. In her petition she describes herself as the daughter of a loyalist, John Clark, someone who served in “His Majesty’s Service” and that she came into the Province in 1788. Upon this information, Eleanor was granted 200 acres of land in Thorold Township, comprising of lots 115 and 169. Eleanor Clark (b. 1777) and Jacob Ostrander were married 5 October 1794 in St. Mark’s Church, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont.

Eleanore Celeste begins by discussing her birthday gifts she received from friends and family. There is talk that Arthur might soon be release from the army. She also mentions she is teaching higher grades and she finds it "very hard". The children of celebrities in Newark attend the school she is currently placed. The letter is labelled number 242.

Province of Upper Canada Grant to George Upper

Province of Upper Canada Grant (vellum) to George Upper of the Township of Niagara. He was formerly a private in the Lincoln Militia. He is granted 100 acres in the east half of lot no.28 in the 2nd Concession in the Township of Nissouri. This was registered Dec. 1827 – Folio no. 242. This document is extremely stained and torn on the lower half. No effect on the text, Nov. 27, 1827.
