Order of Service for the Honour Roll Unveiling - 10 June, 1945

A dedication service program for those who gave their lives during World War II from the city of St. Catharines. The list of over 150 names was to be read aloud and an address made by the Mayor (W.J. Macdonald) with prayers and hymn to follow.

Indenture of Release between Richard Miller and others

Indenture of release by executors between Richard Miller, John L. Ranney and Richard Woodruff, all of St. Catharines and Joseph A. Woodruff of Clifton, all executors of the will of Samuel Zimmerman of the first part and The Great Western Railway Company of the second part. Parties of the second part have exonerated parties of the first part to undertake and complete the Sarnia branch of the railway. Also, parties of the first part believe they are entitled to compensation as the death of Zimmerman was caused while travelling on one of the carriages belonging to said company. A sum of $150,000 was agreed upon to be paid to the executors by the Great Western Railway Company, September 7, 1858.

Indenture stating that David Secord of St. Davids, leased the sawmill water in St. Davids to Stroughton Moore of St. Davids for 50 pounds a year. This document was witnessed by Ezekiel and William Woodruff, July 22, 1824.

Indenture of conveyance between George Shaw of the Township of Niagara and Richard Woodruff and Company, merchants of the Township of Niagara, all living in the Village of St. Davids for a share of water ("course of water running in a hole one inch diameter"), April 15, 1825.

Indenture of bargain and sale between The Corporation of the Township of Grantham of the County of Lincoln and Samuel DeVeaux Woodruff of St. Catharines regarding part of the road allowance between Lots no. 12 and 13 of the 8th Concession of the Township of Grantham. This was registered January 8, 1874 in the County of Lincoln - instrument no. 1650, October 24, 1873.

Indenture of conveyance between Her Majesty the Queen and Joseph A. Woodruff of St. Catharines regarding 100 acres more or less in part of Lot no. 5 in the 2nd Concession in the 34 Township of Lobo in the County of Middlesex. This was registered in the County of Middlesex Register on Oct. 20, 1873. This is a duplicate of the original executed on Oct. 15, 1875.

Letter to the Editor of the Globe

Letter Regarding the Burning of St. Davids (3 ½ handwritten pages) A letter to the editor of the Globe regarding the lack of historical knowledge displayed by the Globe’s correspondent regarding the descendants of those who fought at Queenston Heights and the burning of St. Davids in 1813 or 1814 [July 18, 1814]. The letter also mentions the “friendly Indians” who encamped in St. Davids. The letter is not signed nor dated. A transcript of the letter is enclosed, [The burning of St. Davids by the American troops on July 19, 1814 was an unjustifiable act. The officer who led the attack was court-martialed and dismissed from the service.] n.d.

The land contains 39 acres of parts of Lots 9 and 10 on the Welland River in the Township of Willoughby. The notice states that you must apply to S.D. Woodruff of St. Catharines. This is handwritten on a small piece of paper, Dec. 5, 1892.
