General Orders No. 61, 24 September 1918

General Orders, dated 24 September 1918, includes telegram messages received by the Corps Commander. The telegrams quoted include one from Woodrow Wilson and Major General Summerall. Both are messages of congratulations and praise.

A report on the operations in Mouzon starting October 12 through November 6th. The attack took place November 6th according to the report. Also included is a list of prisoners from enemy units.

The report describes several raids, including "the Austrians, under orders from the Kaiser and with the object of putting new enthusiasm into their disheartened people, launched a big offensive, which the Italians have handled to date masterfully."

The report mentions that General Pershing presented Distinguished Service Crosses to soldiers in the First Field Artillery Brigade. It also describes a Sergeant and 3 men finding an enemy soldier asleep with a machine gun. They brought him back to the American lines. Also included is a list of destruction that took place over the the last three days.

A letter written by Napoleon Buonaparte (Bonaparte) to Guillaume Thomas Francois Raynal, dated at Ajaccio [Corsica] June 24 the first year of freedom [1790]. The letter is written in French. A transcription and a translation of the letter are also available.

Intemperance at Meredith Bridge, 1836

A document titled "Plain Facts, In relation to the state of intemperance at Meredith Bridge, ascertained by a committee recently appointed for that purpose". The introduction to the document reads: "The whole population of the village, embracing a tract of territory less than one mile from the Bridge, is nine hundred forty. The number of families within those limits is one hundred and sixty-six. Of the heads of these families, thirty-eight are intemperate, - seventy are temperate drinkers; the remainder abstain wholly from the use of distilled and vinous liquors. There are ninety-six children in those families,in which there is one intemperate parent. The number of children who have temperate parents is one hundred and fifty-nine. The other families have one hundred and forty-four children. Beside the above, there are thirty-seven young men. Of this number, twelve are decidedly intemperate; seventeen are temperate drinkers, and eight subscribe to the doctrine of total abstinate. In the whole Village, there are, at the least, fifty-two decidedly intemperate. There are sold in this Village, annually nine thousand gallons of spirituous liquors, at a cost not less than $6,750. Add to this the other cost attendant on the use of spirituous liquors, estimated to equal that of the liquor itself, and we have an item of expense of $13,500, occasioned by the use of intoxicating drink. The above facts are offered for the serious consideration of the citizens at Meredith Bridge. March 1836".

Wrestling Card - Earl McCready

The wrestler's name is Earl McCready and the number stamped on the reverse is 928. McCready was born in Lansdowne, Ontario and won three straight NCAA wrestling championships in the 1920s. He was dubbed the greatest amateur wrestler Canada ever produced. He went on to be a flag bearer at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam and his honours included: Canadian Wrestling Hall of Fame, Canadian Sports Hall of Fame, US Wrestling Hall of Fame.
