Volumes of interest were published between 1812 and 1815 with articles about the War of 1812. Issue for June 26, 1812 includes a proclamation issued by President James Madison confirming the Congress declaration of war against Great Britain.

Volumes of interest were published between 1812 and 1815 with articles about the War of 1812. Issue for June 27, 1812 includes "A proclamation" issued by President James Madison confirming the declaration of war against Great Britain and other War of 1812 reports.

Columbian Centinel, 22 February 1815 (no. 3222) - Newspaper

Volumes of interest were published between 1812 and 1815 with articles about the War of 1812. Issue for February 22, 1815: includes various articles about the War of 1812 and the end of the war including "British official account--Battle of Chippewa", Page 2 has a bold, two-column wide heading: "Ratified TREATY Of PEACE And AMITY", followed by "A PROCLAMATION" issued by "JAMES MADISON" stating that a treaty with "His Britannic Majesty" was signed at Ghent on December 24, 1814, and ratified by the U.S. Senate on February 17, 1815, thus ending the War of 1812.

The Independent Chronicle, 22 October 1812 (no. 3280) - Newspaper

Volumes of interest were published between 1812 and 1815 with articles about the War of 1812. Issue for Oct. 22, 1812 includes a Proclamation issued by the President of the United States offering a full pardon to ...a number of individuals who have deserted from the Army... signed in type: James Madison. Has three other acts each signed in type by Madison. Some minor war reports on pg. 2.

Thomas's Massachusetts spy, or, Worcester Gazette, 1 March 1815 (vol. 44, no. 2186) - Newspaper

Volumes of interest were published between 1812 and 1815 with articles about the War of 1812. Issue for Mar. 1, 1815: The front page of this issue has the: "TREATY Of Peace And Amity, Between his Britannick Majesty and the United States of America." Hereafter, and concluding on pg. 2, are the eleven articles of the treaty, signed in type: John Q. Adams, James A. Bayard, Henry Clay, Albert Gallatin, and several others. Page 2 also has the message from the President that he forwarded a copy of the treaty to Congress, signed in type: James Madison.

Volumes of interest were published between 1812 and 1815 with articles about the War of 1812. Issue for Feb. 21, 1815, beginning on page 2 and continuing to take all of page 3 and some of page 4 is the full text headed: "TREATY OF PEACE" which is prefaced with an address by James Madison. Also in this issue is an article: "Victory At Orleans" and another article headed: "The War--From New Orleans".

Boston Gazette, 13 December 1813 (vol. 39, no. 50) - Newspaper

Volumes of interest were published between 1812 and 1815 with articles about the War of 1812. Issue for Dec. 13, 1813: much of the front page & a portion of page 2 are taken up with the "President's Message" which is signed by him in type at its conclusion: James Madison. Obviously much of the focus of his speech is with the on-going War of 1812 including mention of some significant battles such as Lake Erie, etc.

A Brief Statement of the Transactions and Accounts of Qr. M. Gen. James Thomas, attached to the Army on the Niagara Frontier, in the year 1812-1813 (1815)

A principle cause of the failure of the campaign on the Niagara Frontier in 1812 was the deficiency of subsistence for the troops; as quartermaster general, Thomas received much of the blame. His defense is offered here.

James Corbin Letter - October 2, 1813

Letter transcription: Dear Sir, The reason I did not come to tend your mill last spring was because the letter you wrote me dated 1 of March I didn’t receive it until the 12 of April and inform me that if I could be there in 2 or 3 weeks you would employ me as we agreed and therefore I concluded it would not do any good for me to come. It was a great disappointment to me because I was all ready to come whenever I got word. It is impossible for me to come now for I am in partnership with my brother in the farm and Mills and must take care our crops and settle our [bushels] this winter. I know nothing to the contrary but what I can come next spring I will let you know by uncle Corbin this winter. James Corbin

James Monroe letter of marque, ca. 1812

A letter of marque addressed to Captain James Rogers, commander of the boat Retaliation, and signed by James Monroe, secretary of state. Letters of marquee provided legal authority for an armed vessel to capture enemy ships and commit acts which would otherwise constitute piracy. The letter has no date, but was likely created during the War of 1812, and authorizes the Captain to attack and capture enemy vessels.

Benjamin Rathburn (1790-1873) was a builder, banker and hotel-keeper who was well-known for his work in the development and expansion of Buffalo in the 1830s. He also conducted business in the Village of Niagara Falls. He purchased large tracts of land (largely on credit) with the intent to sell the land at a profit. However, the sales did not meet his expectations and Rathburn found himself over-extended on credit, ultimately leading to his financial ruin.Jesse P. Haines (1793-1877) was an American cartographer who is credited with mapping the Villages of Lockport and Niagara Falls, New York.
