Indenture between William Dickson [Jr.] and Robert M. Wilson, February 7, 1859.

William Dickson (1799-1877) was the son of the prominent Niagara businessman and politician William Dickson (1769-1846). William was educated in Edinburgh, Scotland, and settled in Galt, Ontario, upon his return to Canada. His father had business affairs in Dumfries and Galt, which he left in his sons charge when he retired to Niagara in 1837. William had an older brother, Robert, and younger brother, Walter, both of whom served in the Militia and became involved in politics.

Power of Attorney of Colonel John Butler for Robert Hamilton and Robert Addison, January 4,1797

John Butler (1728-1796) was originally from Connecticut but settled with his family in the Mohawk valley of New York around 1742. His father was a Captain in the British army and well acquainted with William Johnson (superintendent of Northern Indians). Butler impressed Johnson with his aptitude for Indian languages and diplomacy. He began to work with Johnson in 1755, and received several promotions in the department, until his apparent retirement in the early 1770s. At the onset of the Revolutionary War in 1775, Butler relocated to Canada to join the British forces, settling in Niagara. During the War, Butler was instrumental in maintaining the alliance with the Indians. After the War, Butler became prominent in local affairs in Niagara, but failed to secure any important offices when the province of Upper Canada was formed in 1792. In an effort to recoup some of the financial losses his family suffered during the War, Butler illegally attempted to supply trade goods to the Indian department with his son Andrew, his nephew Walter Butler Sheehan, and Samuel Street, a Niagara merchant.

The New Testament of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ

This book was presented by the Canadian Bible Society (British & Foreign Bible Society) to the Canadian Soldiers in the war of 1914. There is an inscription which reads "Niagara-on-the-Lake, August 15th 1915 Presented to the 35th overseas Battalion Draft. P.C. Band to his father before his departure for the front". The word "confirmed" is written below this but the rest of the page is torn out. There is also a book plate that reads "Presented by the Canadian Bible Society (British & Foreign Bible Society) to the Canadian Soldiers in the War of 1914. 'Be strong and of a Good Courage'". Letter - Samuel DeVeaux Woodruff to "Maggie Muffin Hound"

Letter, from Whitley Camp, Surrey. The letter is dated July 3, with no year. The salutation is "Dear Maggie Muffin Hound". Samuel writes about getting a letter from Barrie and he talks about old friends and family. He mentions that he has seen "Dad Palling" [father of his fiance]. It is signed "Your loving cousin, Sam D. Woodruff".

Diary of Winnie Beam

The diary was written when Beam was nineteen years old. Her father, Charles O. Beam, was a dentist with an office on Queen Street in St. Catharines. Winnie Beam lived with her father and mother, Emma, on Ontario Street, St. Catharines.

Letter - Thomas A. Woodruff to "Woodruff"

Letter from Dr. Thomas A. Woodruff of New London Connecticut (2 pages). The salutation on the letter is Dear Woodruff. The letter states that the Lord Mayor of London during the reign of Queen Elizabeth was Sir Frederick Woodruff. His father was the sheriff of London before him. [In 1555 David Woodroffe/Woodruff became the High Sheriff of London. In 1573, his son Nicholas Woodroffe/Woodruff also became High Sheriff. In 1579, the same Nicholas Woodroffe/Woodruff was elected as Lord Mayor of London], n.d.

The perceptions of commune health workers about an education strategy received for counselling fathers about infant and breastfeeding involvement

Objective To evaluate the perceptions of healthcare workers in Vietnam about the efficacy of a continuing education strategy about father involvement and breastfeeding counselling. Design One group, post-test only, quasi-experimental design Method A questionnaire based on Social Cognitive Theory (SCT; Bandura, 2004) was disseminated to participants (N=28). This questionnaire measured self-efficacy, outcome expectations, socio-structural factors, goal setting and behaviour. Multiple regressions were analyzed predicting participants’ practice of client focused father involvement consulting. Results Bivariate correlations demonstrated the anticipated patterns of association between SCT-based constructs. Multiple regression analysis indicated that outcome expectations and barriers were significant predictors of client focused father involvement consulting. Conclusions Participants reported that the education increased their self-efficacy, outcome expectations and client focused father involvement consulting behaviour. Future education should be accessible, increase counselling confidence and address beliefs about the outcomes and challenges of father involvement consulting.

Letter to Robert Nelles from his daughter Margaret Pilkington (3 pages, handwritten) in which she introduces her father to Dr. Pilkington formerly of the 19th Light Dragoons. Dr. Pilkington has some idea of settling in Upper Canada. She concludes the letter by saying that Doctor Pilkington has given up the idea of settling in Upper Canada. The first part of the letter is dated Feb. 24, 1816 and the second half, Feb. 24, 1816.

Malcolm will meet him to survey the lot. He writes of his gratefulness to his father and hopes that his father will be rewarded in the afterlife, Dec. 6, 1833

Abraham asks his father to let this man put his horses in the pasture and please let him sleep on the kitchen floor. He says that he is one of the steadiest Indians that he has, Aug. 3, 1836.
