Regulation of Electricity Transmission and Distribution in Russia

The regulation of electricity transmission and distribution business is an essential issue for any electricity market; it is widely introduced in developed electricity markets of Great Britain, Scandinavian countries and United States of America and other. Those markets which were liberalized recently also need well planned regulation model to be chosen and implemented. In open electricity markets the sectors of electricity distribution and transmission remain monopolies, so called "natural monopolies", as introducing the competition into these sectors in most cases appears to be inefficient. Thatis why regulation becomes very important as its main tasks are: to set reasonable tariffs for customers, to ensure non-discriminating process of electricity transmission and distribution, at the same time to provide distribution companies with incentives to operate efficiently and the owners of the companies with reasonable profits as well; the problem of power quality should be solved at the same time. It should be mentioned also, that there is no incentive scheme which will be suitable for any conditions, that is why it is essential to study differentregulation models in order to form the best one for concrete situation. The aim of this Master's Thesis is to give an overview over theregulation of electricity transmission and distribution in Russia. First, the general information about theory of regulation of natural monopolies will be described; the situation in Russian network business and the importance of regulation process for it will be discussed next. Then there is a detailed description ofexisting regulatory system and the process of tariff calculation with an example. And finally, in the work there is a brief analysis of problems of present scheme of regulation, an attempt to predict the following development of regulationin Russia and the perspectives and risks connected to regulation which could face the companies that try to enter Russian electricity market (such as FORTUM OY).

Rahoitusvälineiden arvostus - Kirjanpidon ja verotuksen erot

Tämän tutkimuksen aiheena on tarkastella rahoitusvälineiden arvostamista suomalaisessa kirjanpidossa, verotuksessa ja IFRS (International Accounting Reporting Standards) -standardeissa. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on selvittää suomalaisen kirjanpidon ja verotuksen eroavaisuudet IFRS-standardeihin rahoitusvälineiden jaottelussa ja arvostamisessa. Tavoitteena on selvittää rahoitusvälineiden arvostamiseroista johtuvien realisoitumattomien arvonmuutosten kirjaaminen kansallisessa kirjanpidossa ja verotuksessa ja IFRS-standardeissa sekä realisoitumattomien arvonmuutosten vaikutus verotukseen. Tutkimus on teoreettinen tutkimus, joka on komparatiivista analyysiä kirjanpidon, verotuksen ja IFRS-standardien välillä rahoitusvälineiden luokittelussa ja arvostamisessa. Tutkimus on luonteeltaan deskriptiivinen ja ymmärtämään pyrkivä. Tutkimuksessa käsitellään kirjanpitolakia (1336/1997), Kauppa- ja teollisuusministeriön asetusta rahoitusvälineiden arvostamisesta sekä merkitsemisestä tilinpäätökseen ja konsernitilinpäätökseen (1315/2004), elinkeinoverolakia (360/1968) sekä IAS 32 - ja 39 -standardeja.

Fundamentals of heat transfer

Following over 170+ pages and additional appendixes are formed based on content of Course: Fundamentals of Heat Transfer. Mainly this summarizes relevant parts on Book of Fundamentals of Heat and Mass Transfer (Incropera), but also other references introducing the same concepts are included. Student’s point of view has been consideredwith following highlights: (1) Relevant topics are presented in a nutshell to provide fast digestion of principles of heat transfer. (2) Appendixes include terminology dictionary. (3) Totally 22 illustrating examples are connecting theory to practical applications and quantifying heat transfer to understandable forms as: temperatures, heat transfer rates, heat fluxes, resistances and etc. (4) Most important Learning outcomes are presented for each topic separately. The Book, Fundamentals of Heat and Mass Transfer (Incropera), is certainly recommended for those going beyond basic knowledge of heat transfer. Lecture Notes consists of four primary content-wise objectives: (1) Give understanding to physical mechanisms of heat transfer, (2)Present basic concepts and terminology relevant for conduction, convection and radiation (3) Introduce thermal performance analysis methods for steady state and transient conduction systems. (4) Provide fast-to-digest phenomenological understanding required for basic design of thermal models
