Diplomityössä tutkittiin hydrauliikan reaaliaikasimulointia ja sen mahdollisuuksia tuotekehityksen apuvälineenä. Työssä käytettiin dSPACE:n reaaliaikasimulointiin valmistamia laitteita ja ohjelmia. Työssä luotiin Matlab/Simulink –ympäristöön tyypillisimmistä hydrauliikkakomponenttien puoliempiirisistä malleista koostuva komponenttikirjasto, joista kootut hydrauliikkapiirien mallit voitiin kääntää reaaliaikaympäristöön. Työn tavoitteena oli kehittää menetelmä, jonka avulla voidaan nopeuttaa ja helpottaa hydraulismekaanisten konejärjestelmien suunnittelua ja tuotekehitystä. Kehitetyt menetelmät perustuvat todellisen konejärjestelmän osaksi kytketyn reaaliaikaisen virtuaalihydrauliikan avulla laskettuun uuteen ohjaussignaaliin, jonka avulla voidaan todellisella hydrauliikalla kuvata virtuaalisen hydrauliikan vaikutukset todelliseen järjestelmään. Näin ollen muutokset voidaan siis tehdä virtuaaliseen hydrauliikkaan ja niiden vaikutukset nähdä todellisen järjestelmän käyttäytymisessä.

Virtuaalimallinnuksella tarkoitetaan koneen simulointia, jossa huomioidaan koneen mekaniikka, toimilaitteet ja ohjausjärjestelmä. Työn tavoitteena oli luoda virtuaalimalli harvesteripäästä. Kyseinen virtuaalimalli sisälsi harvesteripään tärkeimmät mekaaniset osat, pituusmittalaitteen hydrauliikkapiirin ja tämän ohjauksen. Luodussa virtuaalimallissa huomioitiin myös harvesteripään ja puun väliset kontaktit. Lisäksi työssä tutkittiin mahdollista virtuaalimallinnuksen implementoimista osaksi yrityksen tuotekehitysprosessia. Työssä suoritettiin verifiointimittaukset pituusmittalaitteen hydrauliikkapiirille sekä virtuaalimallin hydrauliikkakomponentit parametrisoitiin. Mittauksista saatuja tuloksia verrattiin virtuaalimallista saatuihin tuloksiin. Työssä esitellään myös ehdotus kuinka virtuaalimallinnusta kannattaisi hyödyntää osana yrityksen tuotekehitysprosessia. Virtuaalimallin eri osa-alueilla saavutetut tulokset osoittavat, että virtuaalimallinuksen hyödyntäminen tuotekehitysprosessin aikana mahdollistaa harvesteripään toimintojen tarkastelun ennen prototyypin rakentamista ja testaamista. Lisäksi hydrauliikkapiirin parametrisoimisella pystytään tutkimaan parametrien vaikutusta kokonaisuuteen.

Over the last decades, calibration techniques have been widely used to improve the accuracy of robots and machine tools since they only involve software modification instead of changing the design and manufacture of the hardware. Traditionally, there are four steps are required for a calibration, i.e. error modeling, measurement, parameter identification and compensation. The objective of this thesis is to propose a method for the kinematics analysis and error modeling of a newly developed hybrid redundant robot IWR (Intersector Welding Robot), which possesses ten degrees of freedom (DOF) where 6-DOF in parallel and additional 4-DOF in serial. In this article, the problem of kinematics modeling and error modeling of the proposed IWR robot are discussed. Based on the vector arithmetic method, the kinematics model and the sensitivity model of the end-effector subject to the structure parameters is derived and analyzed. The relations between the pose (position and orientation) accuracy and manufacturing tolerances, actuation errors, and connection errors are formulated. Computer simulation is performed to examine the validity and effectiveness of the proposed method.

To obtain the desirable accuracy of a robot, there are two techniques available. The first option would be to make the robot match the nominal mathematic model. In other words, the manufacturing and assembling tolerances of every part would be extremely tight so that all of the various parameters would match the “design” or “nominal” values as closely as possible. This method can satisfy most of the accuracy requirements, but the cost would increase dramatically as the accuracy requirement increases. Alternatively, a more cost-effective solution is to build a manipulator with relaxed manufacturing and assembling tolerances. By modifying the mathematical model in the controller, the actual errors of the robot can be compensated. This is the essence of robot calibration. Simply put, robot calibration is the process of defining an appropriate error model and then identifying the various parameter errors that make the error model match the robot as closely as possible. This work focuses on kinematic calibration of a 10 degree-of-freedom (DOF) redundant serial-parallel hybrid robot. The robot consists of a 4-DOF serial mechanism and a 6-DOF hexapod parallel manipulator. The redundant 4-DOF serial structure is used to enlarge workspace and the 6-DOF hexapod manipulator is used to provide high load capabilities and stiffness for the whole structure. The main objective of the study is to develop a suitable calibration method to improve the accuracy of the redundant serial-parallel hybrid robot. To this end, a Denavit–Hartenberg (DH) hybrid error model and a Product-of-Exponential (POE) error model are developed for error modeling of the proposed robot. Furthermore, two kinds of global optimization methods, i.e. the differential-evolution (DE) algorithm and the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithm, are employed to identify the parameter errors of the derived error model. A measurement method based on a 3-2-1 wire-based pose estimation system is proposed and implemented in a Solidworks environment to simulate the real experimental validations. Numerical simulations and Solidworks prototype-model validations are carried out on the hybrid robot to verify the effectiveness, accuracy and robustness of the calibration algorithms.

A hybrid electric vehicle is a fast-growing concept in the field of vehicle industry. Nowadays two global problems make manufactures to develop such systems. These problems are: the growing cost of a fuel and environmental pollution. Also development of controlled electric drive with high control accuracy and reliability allows improving of vehicle drive characteristics. The objective of this Diploma Thesis is to investigate the possibilities of electrical drive application for new principle of parallel hybrid vehicle system. Electric motor calculations, selection of most suitable control system and other calculations are needed. This work is not final work for such topic. Further investigation with more precise calculations, modeling, measurements and cost calculations are needed to answer the question if such system is efficient.

This dissertation is based on four articles dealing with modeling of ozonation. The literature part of this considers some models for hydrodynamics in bubble column simulation. A literature review of methods for obtaining mass transfer coefficients is presented. The methods presented to obtain mass transfer are general models and can be applied to any gas-liquid system. Ozonation reaction models and methods for obtaining stoichiometric coefficients and reaction rate coefficients for ozonation reactions are discussed in the final section of the literature part. In the first article, ozone gas-liquid mass transfer into water in a bubble column was investigated for different pH values. A more general method for estimation of mass transfer and Henry’s coefficient was developed from the Beltrán method. The ozone volumetric mass transfer coefficient and the Henry’s coefficient were determined simultaneously by parameter estimation using a nonlinear optimization method. A minor dependence of the Henry’s law constant on pH was detected at the pH range 4 - 9. In the second article, a new method using the axial dispersion model for estimation of ozone self-decomposition kinetics in a semi-batch bubble column reactor was developed. The reaction rate coefficients for literature equations of ozone decomposition and the gas phase dispersion coefficient were estimated and compared with the literature data. The reaction order in the pH range 7-10 with respect to ozone 1.12 and 0.51 the hydroxyl ion were obtained, which is in good agreement with literature. The model parameters were determined by parameter estimation using a nonlinear optimization method. Sensitivity analysis was conducted using object function method to obtain information about the reliability and identifiability of the estimated parameters. In the third article, the reaction rate coefficients and the stoichiometric coefficients in the reaction of ozone with the model component p-nitrophenol were estimated at low pH of water using nonlinear optimization. A novel method for estimation of multireaction model parameters in ozonation was developed. In this method the concentration of unknown intermediate compounds is presented as a residual COD (chemical oxygen demand) calculated from the measured COD and the theoretical COD for the known species. The decomposition rate of p-nitrophenol on the pathway producing hydroquinone was found to be about two times faster than the p-nitrophenol decomposition rate on the pathway producing 4- nitrocatechol. In the fourth article, the reaction kinetics of p-nitrophenol ozonation was studied in a bubble column at pH 2. Using the new reaction kinetic model presented in the previous article, the reaction kinetic parameters, rate coefficients, and stoichiometric coefficients as well as the mass transfer coefficient were estimated with nonlinear estimation. The decomposition rate of pnitrophenol was found to be equal both on the pathway producing hydroquinone and on the path way producing 4-nitrocathecol. Comparison of the rate coefficients with the case at initial pH 5 indicates that the p-nitrophenol degradation producing 4- nitrocathecol is more selective towards molecular ozone than the reaction producing hydroquinone. The identifiability and reliability of the estimated parameters were analyzed with the Marcov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method. @All rights reserved. Detta arbete fokuserar på modellering av katalytiska gas-vätskereaktioner som genomförs i kontinuerliga packade bäddar. Katalyserade gas-vätskereaktioner hör till de mest typiska reaktionerna i kemisk industri; därför behandlas här packade bäddreaktorer som ett av de populäraste alternativen, då kontinuerlig drift eftersträvas. Tack vare en stor katalysatormängd per volym har de en kompakt struktur, separering av katalysatorn behövs inte och genom en professionell design kan den mest fördelaktiga strömningsbilden upprätthållas i reaktorn. Packade bäddreaktorer är attraktiva p.g.a. lägre investerings- och driftskostnader. Även om packade bäddar används intensivt i industri, är det mycket utmanande att modellera. Detta beror på att tre faser samexisterar och systemets geometri är komplicerad. Existensen av flera reaktioner gör den matematiska modelleringen även mera krävande. Många förenklingar blir därmed nödvändiga. Modellerna involverar typiskt flera parametrar som skall justeras på basis av experimentella data. I detta arbete studerades fem olika reaktionssystem. Systemen hade studerats experimentellt i vårt laboratorium med målet att nå en hög produktivitet och selektivitet genom ett optimalt val av katalysatorer och driftsbetingelser. Hydrering av citral, dekarboxylering av fettsyror, direkt syntes av väteperoxid samt hydrering av sockermonomererna glukos och arabinos användes som exempelsystem. Även om dessa system hade mycket gemensamt, hade de också unika egenskaper och krävde därför en skräddarsydd matematisk behandling. Citralhydrering var ett system med en dominerande huvudreaktion som producerar citronellal och citronellol som huvudprodukter. Produkterna används som en citrondoftande komponent i parfymer, tvålar och tvättmedel samt som plattform-kemikalier. Dekarboxylering av stearinsyra var ett specialfall, för vilket en reaktionsväg för produktion av långkedjade kolväten utgående från fettsyror söktes. En synnerligen hög produktselektivitet var karakteristisk för detta system. Även processuppskalning modellerades för dekarboxylerings-reaktionen. Direkt syntes av väteperoxid hade som målsättning att framta en förenklad process att producera väteperoxid genom att låta upplöst väte och syre reagera direkt i ett lämpligt lösningsmedel på en aktiv fast katalysator. I detta system förekommer tre bireaktioner, vilka ger vatten som oönskad produkt. Alla dessa tre reaktioner modellerades matematiskt med hjälp av dynamiska massbalanser. Målet med hydrering av glukos och arabinos är att framställa produkter med en hög förädlingsgrad, nämligen sockeralkoholer, genom katalytisk hydrering. För dessa två system löstes ämnesmängd- och energibalanserna simultant för att evaluera effekter inne i porösa katalysatorpartiklar. Impulsbalanser som bestämmer strömningsbetingelser inne i en kemisk reaktor, ersattes i alla modelleringsstudier med semi-empiriska korrelationsuttryck för vätskans volymandel och tryckförlust och med axiell dispersionsmodell för beskrivning av omblandningseffekter. Genom att justera modellens parametrar kunde reaktorns beteende beskrivas väl. Alla experiment var genomförda i laboratorieskala. En stor mängd av kopplade effekter samexisterade: reaktionskinetik inklusive adsorption, katalysatordeaktivering, mass- och värmeöverföring samt strömningsrelaterade effekter. En del av dessa effekter kunde studeras separat (t.ex. dispersionseffekter och bireaktioner). Inverkan av vissa fenomen kunde ibland minimeras genom en noggrann planering av experimenten. På detta sätt kunde förenklingar i modellerna bättre motiveras. Alla system som studerades var industriellt relevanta. Utveckling av nya, förenklade produktionsteknologier för existerande kemiska komponenter eller nya komponenter är ett gigantiskt uppdrag. Studierna som presenterades här fokuserade på en av den teknisk-vetenskapliga utfärdens första etapper.

The assembly and maintenance of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) vacuum vessel (VV) is highly challenging since the tasks performed by the robot involve welding, material handling, and machine cutting from inside the VV. The VV is made of stainless steel, which has poor machinability and tends to work harden very rapidly, and all the machining operations need to be carried out from inside of the ITER VV. A general industrial robot cannot be used due to its poor stiffness in the heavy duty machining process, and this will cause many problems, such as poor surface quality, tool damage, low accuracy. Therefore, one of the most suitable options should be a light weight mobile robot which is able to move around inside of the VV and perform different machining tasks by replacing different cutting tools. Reducing the mass of the robot manipulators offers many advantages: reduced material costs, reduced power consumption, the possibility of using smaller actuators, and a higher payload-to-robot weight ratio. Offsetting these advantages, the lighter weight robot is more flexible, which makes it more difficult to control. To achieve good machining surface quality, the tracking of the end effector must be accurate, and an accurate model for a more flexible robot must be constructed. This thesis studies the dynamics and control of a 10 degree-of-freedom (DOF) redundant hybrid robot (4-DOF serial mechanism and 6-DOF 6-UPS hexapod parallel mechanisms) hydraulically driven with flexible rods under the influence of machining forces. Firstly, the flexibility of the bodies is described using the floating frame of reference method (FFRF). A finite element model (FEM) provided the Craig-Bampton (CB) modes needed for the FFRF. A dynamic model of the system of six closed loop mechanisms was assembled using the constrained Lagrange equations and the Lagrange multiplier method. Subsequently, the reaction forces between the parallel and serial parts were used to study the dynamics of the serial robot. A PID control based on position predictions was implemented independently to control the hydraulic cylinders of the robot. Secondly, in machining, to achieve greater end effector trajectory tracking accuracy for surface quality, a robust control of the actuators for the flexible link has to be deduced. This thesis investigates the intelligent control of a hydraulically driven parallel robot part based on the dynamic model and two schemes of intelligent control for a hydraulically driven parallel mechanism based on the dynamic model: (1) a fuzzy-PID self-tuning controller composed of the conventional PID control and with fuzzy logic, and (2) adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system-PID (ANFIS-PID) self-tuning of the gains of the PID controller, which are implemented independently to control each hydraulic cylinder of the parallel mechanism based on rod length predictions. The serial component of the hybrid robot can be analyzed using the equilibrium of reaction forces at the universal joint connections of the hexa-element. To achieve precise positional control of the end effector for maximum precision machining, the hydraulic cylinder should be controlled to hold the hexa-element. Thirdly, a finite element approach of multibody systems using the Special Euclidean group SE(3) framework is presented for a parallel mechanism with flexible piston rods under the influence of machining forces. The flexibility of the bodies is described using the nonlinear interpolation method with an exponential map. The equations of motion take the form of a differential algebraic equation on a Lie group, which is solved using a Lie group time integration scheme. The method relies on the local description of motions, so that it provides a singularity-free formulation, and no parameterization of the nodal variables needs to be introduced. The flexible slider constraint is formulated using a Lie group and used for modeling a flexible rod sliding inside a cylinder. The dynamic model of the system of six closed loop mechanisms was assembled using Hamilton’s principle and the Lagrange multiplier method. A linearized hydraulic control system based on rod length predictions was implemented independently to control the hydraulic cylinders. Consequently, the results of the simulations demonstrating the behavior of the robot machine are presented for each case study. In conclusion, this thesis studies the dynamic analysis of a special hybrid (serialparallel) robot for the above-mentioned special task involving the ITER and investigates different control algorithms that can significantly improve machining performance. These analyses and results provide valuable insight into the design and control of the parallel robot with flexible rods.

The original contribution of this thesis to knowledge are novel digital readout architectures for hybrid pixel readout chips. The thesis presents asynchronous bus-based architecture, a data-node based column architecture and a network-based pixel matrix architecture for data transportation. It is shown that the data-node architecture achieves readout efficiency 99% with half the output rate as a bus-based system. The network-based solution avoids “broken” columns due to some manufacturing errors, and it distributes internal data traffic more evenly across the pixel matrix than column-based architectures. An improvement of > 10% to the efficiency is achieved with uniform and non-uniform hit occupancies. Architectural design has been done using transaction level modeling (TLM) and sequential high-level design techniques for reducing the design and simulation time. It has been possible to simulate tens of column and full chip architectures using the high-level techniques. A decrease of > 10 in run-time is observed using these techniques compared to register transfer level (RTL) design technique. Reduction of 50% for lines-of-code (LoC) for the high-level models compared to the RTL description has been achieved. Two architectures are then demonstrated in two hybrid pixel readout chips. The first chip, Timepix3 has been designed for the Medipix3 collaboration. According to the measurements, it consumes < 1 W/cm^2. It also delivers up to 40 Mhits/s/cm^2 with 10-bit time-over-threshold (ToT) and 18-bit time-of-arrival (ToA) of 1.5625 ns. The chip uses a token-arbitrated, asynchronous two-phase handshake column bus for internal data transfer. It has also been successfully used in a multi-chip particle tracking telescope. The second chip, VeloPix, is a readout chip being designed for the upgrade of Vertex Locator (VELO) of the LHCb experiment at CERN. Based on the simulations, it consumes < 1.5 W/cm^2 while delivering up to 320 Mpackets/s/cm^2, each packet containing up to 8 pixels. VeloPix uses a node-based data fabric for achieving throughput of 13.3 Mpackets/s from the column to the EoC. By combining Monte Carlo physics data with high-level simulations, it has been demonstrated that the architecture meets requirements of the VELO (260 Mpackets/s/cm^2 with efficiency of 99%).

Hybridiajoneuvosovellukset vaativat usein sekä korkea- että matalajännitejärjestelmän. Korkeajännitejärjestelmä sisältää yleensä energiavaraston, joka on joko superkondansaattori tai korkeajänniteakusto, dieselgeneraattorin tai range extenderin ja ajokäytön. Korkeajännitejärjestelmään liitetään usein myös erilaisia apukäyttöjä kuten kompressoreita ja hydraulipumppuja. Matalajännitejärjelmä koostuu yleensä ohjausyksiköistä, ajovaloista, yms. laitteista. Perinteisesti matalajännitejärjestelmää on syötetty dieselmoottorin laturista, mutta korkeajännitejärjestelmien myötä DC/DC-hakkurin käyttäminen korkea- ja matalajännitejärjestelmien välillä on herättänyt kiinnostusta, koska tällöin laturin voisi poistaa ja matalajänniteakustoa pienentää. Tässä työssä kuvatun monilähöisen tehonmuokkaimen invertterisilta soveltuu apukäyttöjen ajamiseen, ja erotettu DC/DC-hakkuri matalajännitejärjestelmän syöttämiseen. Tässä työssä käydään läpi edellä mainitun tehonmuokkaimen suunnittelu, keskittyen eritoten laitteen korkeajänniteosien mitoitukseen ja termiseen suunniteluun. DC/DC-hakkurin osalta perinteisiä piistä valmistettuja IGBT transistoreja vertaillaan piikarbidi MOSFET transistoreihin. Lämpömallilaskujen paikkaansapitävyyttä tutkitaan suorittamalla prototyyppilaitteelle hyötysuhdemittaus, jonka tuloksia verrataan laskettuihin tuloksiin. Lämpömallin parannusmahdollisuuksia käsitellään myös hyötysuhdemittauksen tulosten perusteella.
