IT service catalog is an increasingly important issue as many IT organizations have been realizing it as a central communication and visualization tool to bridge the gap between IT and the business. This study reviews relevant literature on IT service catalog and related issues on IT services delivery. Furthermore, the study shows how IT service catalog can enhance IT effectiveness as well as provide more benefits when integrating with Configuration Management Database. In order to analyze whether IT service catalog is needed to be implemented in a Pan-Nordic Insurance Company, this study also investigates the current IT services delivery of a case study. The findings of the study show the problems in the current situation of IT services delivery in the case. The characteristics of IT service catalog are recommended in order to help with the mentioned flaws.

Companies and organizations business activities rely on information. IT systems that manage master data must provide the highest level of service, world-class scalability and reliable information. This study discusses product information and how it can support the creation of a spare part catalog and the launching of eBusiness. The study consists of a theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part contains a literature review and a framework for the analysis. For the empirical study two companies were selected and their information management processes were studied and analyzed based on the framework. The empirical results indicate that the challenges the companies face reflect the ones that can be found in the literature study. The results of the empirical study also show that the companies had recognized the issues which need to be developed and had recognized trends in eBusiness and product information management.

Työn tarkoituksena on ollut luoda varaosien tunnistukseen kehitysmalli, jota voidaan käyttää pohjana palveluiden kehityksessä. Saatavilla olevia tunnistusmenetelmiä parantamalla on mahdollista kehittää liiketoimintaprosesseja. Yrityksiin kohdistuu yhä enemmän vaatimuksia, jotka täyttääkseen on kyettävä luomaan kustomoitavissa olevia innovatiivisia palvelukokonaisuuksia. Yritysten tulisi kerätä yhteen kaikki saatavilla oleva tieto asiakkaiden hankkimista tuotteista ja palveluista tarjoten näiden kautta toimintamahdollisuuksia lähemmäs asiakasrajapintaan. Sähköisten tunnistuspalveluiden kehitys ja integrointi yhdeksi kokonaisuudeksi on keskeisessä asemassa yrityksen palvelutarjontaa kehitettäessä. Palveluihin voidaan antaa pääsy SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) -malliin perustuvien portaaleiden kautta. Uudet varaosien tunnistusmenetelmät tulee liittää web-palveluina portaaliin integrointimenetelmiä käyttäen. Varaosien tunnistuksen kannalta on keskeistä linkittää taustajärjestelmien tieto tukemaan tunnistusprosessia tuotteiden koko elinkaaren ajan. Case tapauksessa integroitiin varaosien tunnistuspalveluina IMB WebSphere Portal:n PDM (Product Data Management) -järjestelmän varaosadokumentaatio. Lisäksi luotiin varaosien tunnistusjärjestelmän vaatima datamalli, joka mahdollistaa PDMjärjestelmässä olevan as-built – varaosarakenteen hyväksikäytön portaaliin liitettävän graafisen varaosien tunnistusjärjestelmän kanssa. Tulevaisuuden kehitysmahdollisuuksina nähdään huoltojärjestelmien tiedon integrointi osaksi tunnistusmenetelmiä parantavaa kokonaisuutta, huoltotarpeen automaattinen seuranta ja analysointi, RFID:n käyttömahdollisuudet, mobiili-sovellusten kehitys, varaosien tunnistukseen perustuvien liiketoimintaprosessien automatisointi sekä jatkuva tiedonjaon kehittäminen.

The distinction between lymphatic vessels and blood vessels is a crucial factor in many studies in immunology, vascular biology and cancer biology. They both share several characteristics and perform related, though different functions. They are equally important for the performance of the human immune system with the continuous recirculation of leukocytes from the tissues via lymphatics to the blood vessels and back into the tissue presenting the link between both systems. This study was undertaken to elucidate the differences in the gene expression between primary blood- and lymphatic endothelial cells as well as the two immortalized cell lines HMEC-1 (human microvascular endothelial cell line 1) and TIME (telomerase immortalized microvascular endothelial cell line). Furthermore, we wanted to investigate the mystery surrounding the identity of the antigen recognized by the prototype blood vascular marker PAL-E. In the last step we wanted to study whether the PAL-E antigen would be involved in the process of leukocyte migration from the bloodstream into the surrounding tissue. Our results clearly show that the gene expression in primary blood endothelial cells (BEC), lymphatic endothelial cells (LEC) and the cell lines HMEC-1 and TIME is plastic. Comparison of a large set of BEC- and LEC datasets allowed us to assemble a catalog of new, stable BEC- or LEC specific markers, which we verified in independent experiments. Additionally, several lines of evidence demonstrated that PAL-E recognizes plasmalemma vesicle associated protein 1 (PV-1), which can form complexes with vimentin and neuropilin-1. Finally, numerous in vitro and in vivo experiments identify the first function of the protein PV-1 during leukocyte trafficking, where it acts as regulatory molecule.
