Since the creation of the first viral hepatitis plan in 2004 several documents and advancements have been released that help Iowa plan and prioritize this revision of our hepatitis plan. The Institute of Medicine report identified that current approach to the prevention and control of chronic hepatitis B and hepatitis C is not working. As a remedy, the IOM recommends increased knowledge and awareness about chronic viral hepatitis among health care providers, social service providers, and the public; improved surveillance for hepatitis B and hepatitis C; and better integration of viral hepatitis services.

In September 1996, a grain flow survey consisting of two parts was completed and published. One part was a farm-to-market survey from a sample of Iowa grain producers, and the second was a survey of all Iowa country elevators. An updated survey for the crop year September 1, 1999 -August 31, 2000, was initiated in September 2000. The results of the two updated surveys are presented in this report. The purpose of the surveys is to estimate the amount of Iowa corn and soybeans that are shipped from each crop reporting district to each major market. This report summarizes the results of groundwater quality monitoring conducted at 68 public water supply wells in Iowa between October 2015 and March 2016. Raw groundwater samples were analyzed for basic water quality parameters, nutrients, atrazine and its degradates, and chloroacetanilide herbicides and their ethanesulfonic and oxanilic acid degradates. In addition, a subset of samples were analyzed for radionuclides including gross alpha and gross beta radioactivity, radium-226, and radium-228.
