IWD to Study the Effect of Prison Education on Employment, Data Download, Iowa Department of Corrections, February 2009

The Iowa Department of Corrections recently entered into a data sharing agreement with Iowa Workforce Development (IWD), the purpose of which is to better ascertain the effect of prison education on postprison employment. This study is important because the DOC partners with community colleges to provide prison-based education, with a goal of increasing the numbers of inmates completing GEDs. We are demonstrating success toward that goal, but what we lack is empirical evidence showing the level of success that Iowa prison education programs have on Iowa offenders’ employment success upon their return to communities here in the state.

According to a 2000 CDC report, there are an estimated 50,000 such individuals living in Iowa – a number similar to the population of Ames.

This appendix is divided into three sections. The first section contains abstracts of each of the eight computer programs in the system, instructions for keypunching the three input documents, and computer operating instructions pertaining to each program. The second section contains system flowcharts for the entire system as well as program flowcharts for each program. The last section contains PL/l program listings of each program.

Statewide Work-Based Learning Intermediary Network, FY2014, November 26, 2014

The Iowa Department of Education (DE) was appropriated $1.45 million for the development and implementation of a statewide work-based learning intermediary network. This funding was awarded on a competitive basis to 15 regional intermediary networks. Funds received by the regional intermediary networks from the state through this grant are to be used to develop and expand work-based learning opportunities within each region. A match of resources equal to 25 percent was a requirement of the funding. This match could include private donations, in-kind contributions, or public moneys. Funds may be used to support personnel responsible for the implementation of the intermediary network program components.
