The Legislative Information Office (LIO) provides information concerning the Iowa General Assembly. As part of the nonpartisan Legislative Services Agency (LSA), the Legislature’s legal, fiscal, and computer services agency, the LIO has access to the most current information on the actions and procedures of the Iowa Legislature. The LIO responds to inquiries from the general public, private and public agencies, and business interests with nonpartisan information about the Iowa General Assembly. The office includes two public access computer terminals, for any member of the public to access legislative information using the Iowa General Assembly web site: www.legis.iowa.gov

The Iowa Official Register, commonly known as the "Redbook," serves as a biographical and historical record of Iowa's leaders, government and people.

The Iowa Award Recipients from the Iowa Official Register, 2013-2014

The Iowa Award represents the state’s highest citizen award. The Iowa Centennial Memorial Foundation, established in 1948 by Governor Robert D. Blue and the Iowa General Assembly, created the award. The foundation wished “to encourage and recognize the outstanding service of Iowans in the fields of science, medicine, law, religion, social welfare, education, agriculture, industry, government, and other public service” and to recognize the “merit of their accomplishments in Iowa and throughout the United States.”

In the United States civil marriages are entered into either ceremonially, by means of compliance of the parties with state statutory requirements for marriage, or non-ceremonially by the parties satisfying the requirements of a common law marriage. A marriage contracted validly, whether by complying with statutory requirements or the requirements of a common law marriage, confers the identical rights, responsibilities, and privileges on the parties. The purpose of this Legislative Guide is to provide an overview of marriage as a civil contract imbued with a public interest, and of common law marriage and statutory marriage provisions. The Guide also provides a brief summary of recent developments in marriage law.

This version of the Iowa Constitution incorporates into the original document all amendments adopted through the 2010 general election and omits certain provisions apparently superseded or obsolete. The footnote following an amended section is the latest action only. See the original Constitution for the original text and amendments in chronological order. This codified version generally adopts the rules for capitalization and punctuation used in drafting legislation.

FY2016 Public Safety Advisory Board Annual Report:Legislative Recommendations to the General Assembly, December 1, 2015

The Iowa General Assembly, during its 2010 legislative session, created a new body, the Public Safety Advisory Board (PSAB). The purpose of the Board is to provide the General Assembly with an analysis of current and proposed criminal code provisions. The mission of this Board is to provide research, evaluation, and data to the General Assembly to facilitate improvement in the criminal justice system in Iowa in terms of public safety, improved outcomes, and appropriate use of public resources.
