Iowa Department of Public Safety: Iowa State Patrol, 2008 Annual Report

As Iowa's traffic enforcement agency, the Iowa State Patrol is responsible for providing law enforcement services to rural areas of the state as well as traffic enforcement and support for metropolitan areas around the state. Troopers patrol Iowa's highways and conduct traffic enforcement for both unincorporated areas and interstate highways. In addition, our Personnel provide security and police services throughout the state for many special events including, fairs, festivals, and large sporting events such as the Iowa Speedway, University of Iowa and Iowa State football games.

IPERS, a public agency, was established for the sole purpose of providing a retirement plan to public employees throughout Iowa. As a public agency, IPERS’ goals are aligned with members’. IPERS benefits are designed to supplement personal savings and Social Security benefits in retirement. Benefits also offer financial protection for families in the event of death or disability.

IDSS Iowa Diseases Surveillance System: Security and Confidentiality Policy, May 2010

The Iowa Disease Surveillance System (IDSS) was developed by the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) to streamline and enhance communication and collaboration between laboratory, hospital, and public health (local and state) personnel related to infectious disease surveillance and reporting (as required by Iowa Code 139A) throughout Iowa. IDSS is a tool that speeds communication regarding cases of reportable infectious disease to allow public health to respond sooner and reduce costs associated with disease reporting and surveillance.

The Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEMD) submits this enhanced 911 (E911) annual report to the Iowa General Assembly’s standing committees on government oversight pursuant to Iowa Code § 34A.7A (3) (a). This section of the Code requires the E911 program manager to advise the General Assembly of the status of E911 wireline and wireless implementation and operations, the distribution of surcharge receipts, and an accounting of revenue and expenses of the E911 program.

The Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management Department administers the E911 Program per Code of Iowa, Chapter 34A to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the people of Iowa. Iowa has 115 Public Safety Answering Points across 99 counties that handle both landline and wireless 911 calls for the citizens of Iowa.Enhanced 911 (E911) means a service which provides the user of a public telephone system the ability to reach a public safety answering point (PSAP) by dialing the digits 911.
