In 1998, a new law came into force in Northern Ireland – the Northern Ireland Act 1998. Section 75 of the Act places a legal obligation on each public authority to have due regard to the need to promote equality of opportunity: • between persons of different religious belief, political opinion, racial group, age, marital status or sexual orientation; • between men and women generally; • between persons with a disability and persons without; and • between persons with dependants and persons without. åÊ

North South Survey of Children’s Oral Health 2002 This report presents the results of the first contemporaneous North South study of the oral health of children and adolescents on the island of Ireland. The last National Survey of Childrenâ?Ts Oral Health in the Republic of Ireland was carried out in 1984. The present study describes the oral health experience of children and adolescents in Ireland today. The results are of interest to the public, to policymakers and to service providers and will be of assistance in the evaluation of current oral health services and the planning of services for the next decade. North South Survey of Children's Oral Health in Ireland 2002

The health strategy in Ireland has placed great emphasis on the collection of quality information on health and its determinants, for health policy planning and evaluation. This North South survey of children's oral health provides extensive data for representative samples totaling 19,963 children and adolescents on a variety of oral diseases, conditions and related parameters. Choosing Better Oral Health: An Oral Health Plan for England

This action plan sets out to inform and provide support for dental practices as they focus more on preventative care under new contractual arrangements which will be in place from 1 April 2006. Designed to improve oral health both nationally and locally, this plan also sets out to assist and support Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) in meeting their new responsibilities for dental services under the Health and Social Care (Community Health and Standards) Act 2003. This legislation extends their remit to assessing local oral health needs and commissioning the appropriate services to tackle long standing oral health inequalities.
