The Minister for Health’s Strategy for effective health care in the 1990s has emphasised quality of service as one of its key principles. Within the medical sphere, almost no other field has developed and continues to expand as rapidly as that of cancer biology and treatment. Cytotoxic therapies are a major part of these developments. The Cancer Strategy has highlighted the importance of these drugs in the treatment of cancers. Download the Report here

CHANGE is a multi-faceted programme which seeks to transform the way lone parents think about food. The programme focuses on education, health and the affordability of healthy food for lone parents, as a particularly disadvantaged low-income group. The key activities include training programmes for lone parents and a community garden which engages the wider community. Five training programmes will be developed over the three years; Healthy Eating (basic and advanced), Food Growing, Community Gardening and Community Resilience The community garden is supported by Northside Partnership, Coolock Development Council and Sphere 17 regional youth service, who are all represented on the steering group and contribute some human resources to maintaining and developing the garden. Thematic reviews of early childhood policy originated in response to a significant change in Western societies in the latter part of the 20th century. In effect, the care and education of young children in the industrialised world had shifted from the private to the public sphere, to become a shared responsibility of families and the state. Not only was the provision of equal access to women to the labour market an important goal in this development, but also the issue of giving every child a fair start in life and at school.
