The purpose of this Supplementary Report is to advise on how the budgetary measures impact on the conclusions in relation to tax credits and stamp duty included in the Authority’s November 2011 Report. in doing so, we will assess the direct impacts and we will discuss some scenarios. However, the Authority’s advice in this area relies on projections of the health insurance market and, in light of the above, there is considerable uncertainty surrounding any projections of how claims inflation or the market size may develop, even in the short and medium terms. Evidence Review 1 - Good quality parenting programmes and the home to school transition Briefing 1a - Good Quality Parenting Programmes Briefing 1b - Improving the Home to School Transition This set of documents, commissioned by Public Health England (PHE£0, and written by the UCL Institute of Health Equity, address the effects of parenting and good transition on the health and wellbeing of children aged 0-5. They also provide case studies, and examples of good practice for local areas. Evaluations from the UK and other countries show a positive effect of parenting interventions on outcomes and behaviours that we know are linked to positive health and development outcomes for children. Home to school transition programmes can be effective in improving the outcomes for children from more disadvantaged socio-economic groups more than for children from more advantaged socio-economic groups, although longer term impact on health inequalities can only be inferred because the impact on health has not been studied. The Road to Recovery: A New Approach to Tackling Scotland's Drug Problem

The Scottish National Drugs Strategy requires the 22 regional Drug Action Teams to prepare and submit to the Scottish Executive annual action plans for tackling drug misuse in their areas. These plans should address national and local priorities, including their contribution to the achievement of national targets. These comprise three parts: Part A provides an overview of the DAT structures and working; Part B provides detailed information on current local services and Part C reports plans for 2003/04.This resource was contributed by The National Documentation Centre on Drug Use.

Age does not hamper the response to pulmonary rehabilitation of COPD patients

Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) improves health status and exercise tolerance, but not respiratory function in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The objective of the study was to identify predictors of improvement in the 6-min walked distance (6'WD) in elderly COPD patients after PR. Methods: this was a prospective observational study performed in an ambulatory rehabilitation setting. The authors enrolled 74 patients aged 65-83 years (mean: 74.2, SD: 4.4) with stable COPD in GOLD stage 3-4. About half (45.6%) of them had a basal O2 saturation of 90% or less. After a baseline multi-dimensional assessment, patients underwent a 20-session rehabilitation cycle including training of the upper and lower extremities, and respiratory exercises, along with education sessions.
