The Institute of Public Health in Ireland (IPH) has produced a series of reviews which look at the health impacts of identified subject areas. All-Ireland Health Data Inventory. Part 1: Metadata for key data sources, version 1.0

The All-Ireland Health Data Inventory. Part 1 is a catalogue of key sources of health data in the Republic and Northern Ireland. It includes relevant datasets from the major information reviews, conducted in the North and South, in the past few years. Information is essential for informed decision making and service provision. This inventory draws together information sources to facilitate such decision making. The inventory is intended as a resource for health professionals, researchers and the general public, providing the first phase of a ‘one-stop’ catalogue of health data. The datasets have been catalogued using an expanding numbering system which will allow for the inclusion of future resources. The Institute of Public Health in Ireland is in the process of expanding the Inventory to include further data sources.

Health Impact Review - Sources of information reports

To support each of the IPH series of Health Impact Reviews, a sources of information report is now avalable for each of the four reports. These provide links to organisations who have conducted a wealth of information related to health and either employment, transport, education or the built environment.

Biological threats: A Health Response for Ireland

In the light of recent worldwide events it is clear that there is a need in this and every country for preparedness for dealing with people who have been exposed to or infected with agents associated with bioterrorism. It seems unlikely that a country such as Ireland would be the target of a primary bioterrorist attack. It is more likely that those who have been covertly exposed to bioterrorist agents abroad could enter this country before they develop signs of illness and could have their illness diagnosed in this country. Due to the high infectivity of many of the diseases associated with these bioterrorist agents it is necessary to have protocols in place to deal with all contingencies. Download document here

Global burden of dementia in the year 2050: summary of methods and data sources

��The number of people suffering dementia will triple in the next 40 years, according to a new study by the World Health Organization, leading to catastrophic social and financial costs. Dementia, a brain illness that affects memory, behavior and the ability to perform even common tasks, affects mostly older people; Alzheimer's causes many cases. Information sources on ethnicity and health and healthcare

This report provides a summary of work to date on a joint regional mapping project of ethnicity and health inequalities. It also covers equity of access to health care and initiatives (national and local) to address health inequalities between ethnic groups.

2008 Health Inequalities Profiles: Data sources
