Hearing Disability Assessment - Report of the Expert Hearing Group

In November 1997, the Department of Health and Children established an expert group to examine and make recommendations on an appropriate system and criteria for the assessment of hearing disability arising from hearing loss, with particular reference to noise induced hearing loss. A Vision for Change - Report of the Expert Group on Mental Health Policy

This Report proposes a framework of mental health service delivery with the service user at its centre. The emphasis is firmly on recovery and on facilitating active partnerships between service users, carers and mental health  professionals. Its recommendations are innovative and some of them are challenging. Report of the Consultation on the Health Act, 2004 (Part 9) - Complaints

Part 9 of the Health Act 2004 makes provision for the introduction of a statutory complaints system within the HSE. The purpose of this Department of Health and Children Consultation is to establish a shared understanding of the requirements and priorities attaching to this particular part of the Act as well as providing an opportunity for those experienced in complaints handling to contribute to and inform the Regulations which will specify how the HSE will establish a statutory framework for dealing with complaints received under Part 9 of the Health Act, 2004. Review of Undergraduate Nursing and Midwifery Degree Programmes - Consultation Report

The Department of Health has commenced a review of the undergraduate nursing and midwifery degree programmes in order to establish their efficiency and effectiveness in preparing nurses and midwives to practice in the Irish healthcare system now and into the future (referred to as the Review throughout this report). The undergraduate degree programmes have been in place since 2002 for nursing (general, psychiatric and intellectual disability nursing) and 2006 for midwifery and integrated children and general programmes.   Click here to download PDF 342kb

National Strategy on Dementia Summary of Consultation Process

The Programme for Government gives a commitment to develop a National Strategy on Dementia by 2013 which will increase awareness, ensure early diagnosis and intervention, and enhance community based services for people living with this condition. During 2012, following the completion of the Research Review in preparation for the National Strategy, the Department carried out a public consultation to inform its development. Call for Submissions: White Paper on Universal Health Insurance - Supporting Documents

  The Department of Health has published a White Paper on Universal Health Insurance. The White Paper sets out in detail the elements of the proposed Universal Health Insurance model for Ireland. As such, it provides detail on the overall design of the model, the proposed system for deciding on the standard package of services and the financing mechanisms for the system. This is a most fundamental reform of the health system and we recognise the importance of consulting extensively and inclusively with all interested parties.  It is important to seek your views on the policy as it is set out in the White Paper, and we view this as a valuable opportunity for citizens to contribute to the development of policy on the future of their health system.  Therefore, we would like to hear from any individual, group, organisation or other body that wishes to contribute to the consultation on the White Paper. In particular, but not limited to, we would welcome your views on the following issues: A consultation document setting out a number of key questions under each of the above headings has been developed and can be downloaded here. There is an opportunity at the end of the document for views or comments on other aspects of the White Paper to be provided. Alternatively, additional views or comments can be sent as an email or hard copy to the addresses below. It is intended to establish a separate independent Expert Commission to examine the issues around the basket of services to be provided under UHI and within the overall health system. The Minister will announce details of the Commission in the near future. Therefore, it would be useful if the submissions on the White Paper refrained from commenting in detail on the services to be provided under UHI. Views on the basket of services will be sought by the Commission when it commences its consultation process.
