A feasibility study on the costs and benefits associated with the introduction of dedicated Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) was commissioned by the Department of Health and Children, Dublin and the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety, Belfast. The study was commissioned on foot of advice by the Cross Border Working Group on Pre-Hospital Care Working Group, one of the Groups established under the “Good Friday Agreement”. Medical Card for Over 70s: Fees payable to General Practitioners (Sullivan Report) In the context of the Government decision to end the arrangements whereby medical cards are issued automatically, without a means test, to all those aged 70 and over, a new income threshold was set and the Government decided to introduce a new single capitation rate payable in respect of patients aged 70 and over. This review aims to provide good quality, up-to-date biomedical evidence of the therapies available to women in Ireland to treat breast, cervical and ovarian cancer. This review summarises evidence from guidelines and high quality studies. It should be noted however that scientific evidence is not infallible, and knowledge in this field is constantly evolving. Framework Agreement between the Minister for Health and the Irish Medical Organisation in respect of a process for engagement concerning the GMS/GP Contract

Minister of State with responsibility for Primary Care, Alex White TD, today (4 June 2014) concluded a series of meetings with the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) with the signing of the Framework Agreement between the Minister of Health, the HSE and the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) setting out a process for engagement concerning the GMS/GP contract and other publicly funded contracts involving General Practitioners (GPs). Strategic Review of Medical Training and Career Structures Report on Medical Career Structures and Pathways following completion of Specialist Training

The Minister for Health decided, in July 2013, to establish a Working Group, chaired by Professor Brian MacCraith, President of DCU, to carry out a strategic review of medical training and career structure. The Working Group will examine and make high-level recommendations relating to training and career pathways for doctors with a view to: From January-April 2014, the Working Group prioritised work on career structures and pathways following completion of specialist training in order to report to the Minister for Health on these issues in this report. Strategic Review of Medical Training and Career Structure Final Report

  Final report of the Strategic Review Working Group chaired by Professor Brian MacCraith (President, DCU) This final report focuses on issues relating to strategic medical workforce planning and career planning and mentoring supports for trainee doctors and makes recommendations. Healthy child, healthy future: speech and language therapy for children

This resource is designed to reinforce a collaborative approach between speech and language therapists, referrers and parents in the identification and management of children with developmental speech and language and communication needs (including children with feeding and/or swallowing difficulties). It includes a comprehensive key skills section, which provides details on the communication-related skills a child should have acquired at each stage in his/her early years development. It also includes specific criteria and guidelines for referral, should there be concern about whether the child has a significant problem. The resource provides additional guidance on: • communication and child play; • speech sound development; • dummies; • stammering; • dysphonia; • bilingualism; • feeding and swallowing difficulties. Lists of supplementary leaflets, handouts and websites, as well as a bibliography, are also included.
