�This regional care pathway provides�guidance for all Health and Social Care (HSC) professionals who come into contact with pregnant women. In addition, each Trust has developed a local adaptation of this pathway for their population.�

Directory of services to help improve mental health and emotional wellbeing

These five directories list the names, numbers and web addresses (where applicable) of organisations that offer services to help improve mental health and emotional wellbeing. Where possible, additional information has also been provided, such as email addresses and contact details within each Health and Social Care Trust area.

DETERMINE Working document #4 'Economic arguments for addressing social determinants of health inequalities'

The Institute of Public Health in Ireland (IPH) is a partner in the European project DETERMINE, building on its previous involvement in the Closing the Gap project in 2004-2006. In Year 2 the DETERMINE project  focused on identifying and exploring economic arguments to support action on social determinants of health inequalities.  Working document #4 'Economic arguments for addressing social determinants of health inequalities' presents the findings.

DETERMINE Working Document #1 'Policies and actions addressing the social determinants of health inequalities: examples of activity at EU member state level in Europe'

The Institute of Public Health in Ireland (IPH) is a partner in the European project DETERMINE, building on its previous involvement in the Closing the Gap project in 2004-2006. In the first year of the project (2007-2008) 15 DETERMINE partners identified policies and actions that have taken place within countries, and at the EU level, to address Social Determinants of Health Inequalities. These policies and actions were identified via a questionnaire, which also identified structures and tools/mechanisms being used in the country to support a 'health in all policy' approach.

IPH response to European Review of the Social Determinants of Health and the Health Divide

IPH welcomes this European Review conducted by the Marmot Review Team which aims to inform action on social determinants of health and health equity within the forthcoming health policy for the European region, Health 2020. IPH calls for clear mandates supporting whole-of-government approaches to address social determinants and outlines some of the specific challenges and opportunities within the current Ireland and Northern Ireland policy landscape.

A Vision for Change - Report of the Expert Group on Mental Health Policy

This Report proposes a framework of mental health service delivery with the service user at its centre. The emphasis is firmly on recovery and on facilitating active partnerships between service users, carers and mental health  professionals. Its recommendations are innovative and some of them are challenging. Review of the Operation of the Mental Health Act 2001

The Mental Health Act 2001 replaces the Mental Treatment Acts 1945-61 which provided the statutory framework for the detention of people with mental illness and the administration of psychiatric services for over 50 years.The 2001 Act was introduced on a phased basis to allow for the necessary preparatory work to be undertaken. In March 2002 sections 1 to 5, 7, and 31 to 55 were commenced with effect from the 5 April 2002 (Establishment Day). This allowed for the establishment of the Mental Health Commission and the Inspector of Mental Health Services to replace the Inspector of Mental Hospitals. Interim Report of the Steering Group on the Review of the Mental Health Act 2001 There is a commitment in the Programme for Government to review the Mental Health Act 2001. In line with this, Minister Lynch appointed a Steering Group to review the Mental Health Act 2001. Their report is now with an Expert Group. The review takes accounts of the significant changes in thinking about the delivery of mental health services that have taken place in the last ten years (including the introduction of the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities (CRPD), the shift to community based services, the adoption of a recovery approach in every aspect of service delivery and the involvement of service users as partners in their own care and in the development of the service).
