This good practice guide has been produced by the Equity Commission for Northern Ireland in partnership with the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPSNI).

National Children's Strategy

The Strategy sets out an ambitious series of objectives to guide childrenâ?Ts policy over the next ten years. It sets out a common vision to work towards. It identifies six principles to guide all actions to be taken and it proposes a more holistic way of thinking about children which reflects contemporary understanding of childhood. To realise the vision the Strategy then sets three National Goals: to listen, think and act more effectively for children. New structures are proposed to deliver better co-ordination between government departments and the agencies providing services to children so that the Goals can be achieved. Rooted in the positive vision of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, it represents a different way of doing business, which will, if we all work together, help us become a society which fully values and respects its children. Young and Old - Teacher's Guide: Promoting a Positive Attitude to Ageing and Older People

Young and Old has been specifically designed for use in the context of the new Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE) curriculum. It covers seven different themes on ageing and older people at each of the four levels in primary school and includes different strategies for active learning which are used to explore facts, figures, and attitudes. A Guide to What Works in Family Support Services for Vulnerable Families

This publication is part of research undertaken for the Springboard Family Support Initiative. Springboard is one of the most important initiatives of any Government in recent times to support vulnerable families. It aims to support families which are experiencing difficulties in providing adequate care and protection for their children through community based centres  which work in partnership not only with other local service providers but with the families themselves. Hand hygiene: a guide for all healthcare staff

This leaflet is part of an extension of the cleanyourhands campaign, aimed at preventing the spread of healthcare associated infections (HCAIs) in community healthcare settings including primary care and dental services, residential and nursing homes (including independent sector homes), hospices and independent clinics/hospitals. It is designed to remind staff of their power to help protect patients from avoidable infections by cleaning their hands using proper techniques.
