Report published by the DHSSPS in May 1996. The Cancer Working Group, chaired by the Chief Medical Officer Henrietta Campbell, highlighted the need for changes to cancer services and made a number of key recommendations for the future development of these services.

Regional Advisory Committee on Cancer - First Report 1999 (PDF 73 KB)

The Regional Advisory Committee on Cancer Services (RACC) was established in 1997. Its purpose is to advise the Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) on the implementation of the recommendations contained in the Campbell Report Cancer Services: Investing for the Future and on the development and delivery of cancer services in Northern Ireland. The remit and functions of RACC are set out in Annex 1. The 28 members of RACC come from the Health and Social Services Councils (which represent the interests of the public), primary care, Trusts, Boards and the DHSS. The Chief Medical Officer attends as an observer. The full membership of the committee is listed in Annex 2. 1.3 RACC held its first meeting in June 1997 and has continued to meet twice a year since then. This is its first report. åÊ åÊ

Research Strategy for Nursing and Midwifery in Ireland The Report of the Commission on Nursing (1998, para. 6.77) recommended that the Nursing Policy Division in the Department of Health and Children, in consultation with the appropriate bodies, draw up a national strategy for nursing and midwifery research. In response to the above, the Chief Nursing Officer at the Department of Health and Children convened a consultative committee to prepare a research strategy for nursing and midwifery in Ireland. HSE Midland Regional Hospital, Portlaoise Perinatal Deaths (2006-date)

The Minister for Health requested the Chief Medical Officer to prepare a Report for him on issues that arose following a Primetime Investigates programme relating to Portlaoise Hospital Maternity Services (PHMS) on 30th January 2014. This Report provides a preliminary assessment of PHMS focusing on perinatal deaths (2006-date) and related matters. Through a series of recommendations it sets out the need for further examination or actions where the findings of this preliminary assessment suggest such a need. It also makes clear who should be responsible for these further examinations or actions.   Download the Report

Indications of Public Health in the English Regions 10: Drug Use

This tenth in a series of national reports produced for the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) by the Association of Public Health Observatories (APHO) is on drug use. The report contains 46 different indicators of drug use relating to the individual, community and population across all nine English regions; with additional analysis of sub-regional inequalities where possible. An Executive Summary is also available.

Indications of public health in the English regions - 6: sexual health

This report is the sixth in the series, "Indications of Public Health in the English Regions" commissioned by the Chief Medical Officer and has been produced jointly by the Association of Public Health Observatories (APHO) and the Health Protection Agency (HPA). Sexual health is identified as one of the key national priorities for action in the White Paper Choosing Health. Influenced by the broad definition of sexual health provided in the National Strategy for Sexual Health and HIV, this report presents regional comparative data on a wide range of indicators of sexual health and its determinants, and highlights apparent inequalities.

This report is the eigth in the series, "Indications of Public Health in the English Regions" commissioned by the Chief Medical Officer and has been produced jointly by the Association of Public Health Observatories (APHO), North West PHO, and LJMU Centre for Public Health. In 2006, the United Kingdom rated third highest across 25 EU member states for the number of drinks consumed in one sitting. This Regional Indications report is produced alongside the new national strategy Safe. Sensible. Social: The next steps in the National Alcohol Strategy.

This report presents a wide range of data on the factors which can give rise to poor mental health, the mental health status of populations, provision of interventions of care for mental illness, service user experience and traditional outcomes such as suicide.
