EXPERIMENTATION GENERIQUE ET DIALOGISME INTERTEXTUEL: PERRAULT, LA FONTAINE, APULEIUS, STRAPAROLA AND BASILE. Les contes en vers et en prose de Perrault relèvent, selon l'hypothèse présentée dans cette étude, d'un dialogisme intertextuel très complexe avec les formes génériques du conte déjà existantes dans les littératures européennes. L'académicien s'adonne à une véritable «expérimentation générique » au cours de laquelle il crée de nouvelles formes génériques, de nouvelles intrigues et de nouvelles figures à partir de la fabella de Psyché enchâssée dans les Métamorphoses d'Apulée, et de sa récriture galante par La Fontaine dans Les Amours de Psiché et de Cupidon en 1669. Ce double dialogue intertextuel est encore sous-tendu par le recours aux favole de Straparola (Le Piacevole notti) et aux cunti (Lo cunto de li cunti) de Basile, célèbres narrateurs italiens, qui avaient déjà reconfiguré de façon originale certains épisodes et personnages de la fabella de Psyché. Ce processus dialogique complexe est ici mis en évidence par l'analyse (inter)textuelle successive des trois premiers contes en prose, La Belle au bois dormant, Le Petit Chaperon rouge et La Barbe bleue. L'analyse comparative montre que Perrault les invente à partir des trois moments successifs de l'épreuve la plus difficile que Vénus inflige à Psyché, celle de la descente aux Enfers. En introduisant des différences significatives par rapport aux textes latins, italiens et français, l'académicien parvient à créer une nouvelle variation générique : le conte pseudo-naïf doté d'un sens crypté qui se découvre « plus ou moins selon le degré de pénétration de ceux qui les lisent ».GENERIC EXPERIMENTATION AND INTERTEXTUAL DIALOGISM: PERRAULT, LA FONTAINE, APULEIUS, STRAPAROLA AND BASILEAccording to Ute Heidmann, Perrault's tales have very complex inter- textual relations with other generic forms which already existed in other European literatures. Heidmann demonstrates here how Perrault experi- ments "generically" with the fairy tale and how he creates new generic forms from other tales by Apuleus, Straparola, Basile, or La Fontaine. This dialogic process is here underlined by the analysis of three particular fairy tales, Sleeping Beauty in the Woods, Little Red Riding Hood and Blue Beard. Heidmann shows how, by introducing key differences with the Latin, Italian and French models, Perrault succeeds in creating a new generic variation of the fairy tale: "the pseudo-naïve fairy tale".

In 1875, 7 years prior to the description of the Koch bacillus, Klebs visualized the first Streptococcus pneumoniae in a pleural fluid. Since then, this organism has played a determinant role in biomedical science. From a biological point of view, it was largely implicated in the development of passive and active immunization by serotherapy and vaccination, respectively. Genetic transformation was also first observed in S. pneumoniae, leading to the discovery of DNA. From a clinical point of view, S. pneumoniae is still today a prime cause of otitis media in children and of pneumonia in all age groups, as well as a predominant cause of meningitis and bacteremia. In adults, bacteremia is still entailed with a mortality of over 25%. Although S. pneumoniae remained very sensitive to penicillin for many years, penicillin-resistance has emerged and increased dramatically over the last 15 years. During this period of time, the frequency of penicillin-resistant isolates has increased from < or = 1% to frequencies varying from 20 to 60% in geographic areas as diverse as South Africa, Spain, France, Hungary, Iceland, Alaska, and numerous regions of the United States and South America. In Switzerland, the current frequency of penicillin-resistant pneumococci ranges between 5 and > or = 10%. The increase in penicillin-resistant pneumococci correlates with the intensive use of beta-lactam antibiotics. The mechanism of resistance is not due to bacterial production of penicillinase, but to an alteration of the bacterial target of penicillin, the so-called penicillin-binding proteins. Resistance is subdivided into (i) inter mediate level resistance (minimal inhibitory concentration [MIC] of penicillin of 0.1-1 mg/L) and (ii) high level resistance (MCI > or = 2 mg/L). The clinical significance of intermediate resistance remains poorly defined. On the other hand, highly resistant strains were responsible for numerous therapeutical failures, especially in cases of meningitis. Antibiotics recommended against penicillin-resistant pneumococci include cefotaxime, ceftriaxone, imipenem and in some instances vancomycin. However, penicillin-resistant pneumococci tend to present cross-resistances to all the antibotics of the beta-lactam family and could even become resistant to the last resort drugs mentioned above. Thus, in conclusion, the explosion of resistance to penicillin in pneumococci is a ubiquitous phenomenon which must be fought against by (i) a strict utilization of antibiotics, (ii) the practice of microbiological sampling of infected foci before treatment, (iii) the systematic surveillance of resistance profiles of pneumococci against antibiotics and (iv) the adequate vaccination of populations at risk.

Gauguin's first attempts at still-life painting, around 1875, followed the Dutch tradition, influenced mainly by Manet's palette. But he did take occasional liberties in depicting flowers with more fluid colour and dynamic backgrounds. From 1879 his style shows the influence of the Impressionists: Pissarro in the landscapes and Degas in the composition of his still-lifes. He was also open to the new trends which were developing among artists in Paris and applied them in his paintings, using still-lifes as his main means for testing them. He did not escape the contemporary fascination with Japonism, and even experimented briefly with Pointillism in Still Life with Horse's Head. His stays in Britain between 1886 and 1890 correspond to an extremely rich and innovative period for him, in which still-lifes served for increasing experimentation. "Fête Gloanec" and Three Puppies reflect his preoccupations: rejection of perspective, use of areas of flat colour, and mixed styles. These pictures amount to an aesthetic manifesto; many of them are also imbued with strong symbolism, as in the Portrait of Meyer de Haan, which is a melancholic reflection on the fall of man. In Still-Life with Japanese Print, frail blue flowers seem to come out of the head of the artist-martyr, a pure product of the painter's "restless imagination". Thus Gauguin showed that art is an "abstraction" through a genre which was reputed to lend itself with difficulty to anything other than mimesis. Although he moved away from still-life after 1890, Gauguin is one of the first artists to radically renew its role and the status of still-life at the end of the 19th century, well before the Fauvists and Cubists.

Depuis les travaux d'Anita Guerreau-Jalabert sur la symbolique des triangles alimentaires dans le roman arthurien, personne ne saurait douter qu'au Moyen Âge la nourriture obéit à des codes. Une scène de table ne se réduit pas à une notation à valeur référentielle, à un éclat de vie aristocratique : intégrée au récit, la notation alimentaire est un élément constitutif du sens de l'oeuvre. Plus particulièrement, un plat peut servir de message adressé par un personnage à un autre. On s'est peu intéressé, si ce n'est pour la légende du coeur mangé, à ces passages où la nourriture vient compléter, voire se substituer à la parole. Des nouvelles de Boccace (traduites par Laurent de Premierfait) aux Cent Nouvelles nouvelles et au Pogge (traduit par Guillaume Tardif), mais aussi dans les romans (Ysaÿe le Triste, Le Cuer d'amours espris, Jehan de Saintré), les exemples ne manquent pas qui, à la fin du Moyen Âge, illustrent la variété des messages alimentaires. Si le plat qu'on sert peut être l'instrument d'une vengeance (le repas cannibale !), il est aussi et surtout utilisé comme moyen de séduction. Parfois, il s'agit d'un avertissement qui, par la transgression des codes, donne voix à la morale ; ailleurs, l'ironie s'en mêle, quand la nourriture traduit une attitude de dérision face au convive. Ce dernier procédé, plus ludique, ne se rencontre pas seulement - comme on pourrait s'y attendre - dans l'univers du fabliau ou de la nouvelle. Il traverse le Moyen Âge et, du XIIe au XVe siècle, prépare l'émergence du cuisinier dont l'art et les « joyeux dits » font un double du poète.
