Li contents [Li] and isotopic composition (delta Li-7) of mafic minerals (mainly amphibole and clinopyroxene) from the alkaline to peralkaline Ilimaussaq plutonic complex, South Greenland, track the behavior of Li and its isotopes during magmatic differentiation and final cooling of an alkaline igneous system. [Li] in amphibole increase from < 10 ppm in Caamphiboles of the least differentiated unit to >3000 ppm in Na-amphiboles of the highly evolved units. In contrast, [Li] in clinopyroxene are comparatively low (<85 ppm) and do not vary systematically with differentiation. The distribution of Li between amphibole and pyroxene is controlled by the major element composition of the minerals (Ca-rich and Na-rich, respectively) and changes in oxygen fugacity (due to Li incorporation via coupled substitution with ferric iron) during magmatic differentiation. delta(7) Li values of all minerals span a wide range from + 17 to - 8 parts per thousand, with the different intrusive units of the complex having distinct Li isotopic systematics. Amphiboles, which dominate the Li budget of whole-rocks from the inner part of the complex, have constant delta Li-7 of + 1.8 +/- 2.2 parts per thousand (2 sigma, n = 15). This value reflects a homogeneous melt reservoir and is consistent with their mantle derivation, in agreement with published O and Nd isotopic data. Clinopyroxenes of these samples are consistently lighter, with Delta Li-7(amph-cpx). as large as 8 parts per thousand and are thus not in Li isotope equilibrium. These low values probably reflect late-stage diffusion of Li into clinopyroxene during final cooling of the rocks, thus enriching the clinopyroxene in 6 Li. At the margin of the complex delta(7) Li in the syenites increases systematically, from +2 to high values of + 14 parts per thousand. This, coupled with the observed Li isotope systematics of the granitic country rocks, reflects post-magmatic open-system processes occurring during final cooling of the intrusion. Although the shape and magnitude of the Li isotope and elemental profiles through syenite and country rock are suggestive of diffusion-driven isotope fractionation, they cannot be modeled by one-dimensional diffusive transport and point to circulation of a fluid having a high 67 Li value (possibly seawater) along the chilled contact. In all, this study demonstrates that Li isotopes can be used to identify complex fluid- and diffusion-governed processes taking place during the final cooling of such rocks. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical and subjective outcomes after arthroscopic-assisted double-bundle posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstruction. METHODS: A series of 15 patients with grade III isolated chronic PCL tears underwent double-bundle PCL reconstruction. Of these patients, 8 (53%) had simultaneous fractures. The mean time from accident to surgery was 10.8 months (range, 8 to 15 months). The mean age at the time of surgery was 28.2 years (range, 17 to 43 years). All of the patients reported knee insecurity during activities of daily living or light sporting activities, with associated anterior knee pain in 5 patients. Preoperatively, posterolateral or posteromedial corner injuries were ruled out through accurate clinical examination. The knees were assessed before surgery and at a mean follow-up of 3.2 years (range, 2 to 5 years) with a physical examination, 4 different rating scales, and stress radiographs obtained with a Telos device (Telos, Marburg, Germany). RESULTS: Postoperative physical examination revealed a reduction of the posterior drawer and tibial step-off in all cases, although the posterior laxity was not completely normalized. Nevertheless, the patients were subjectively better after surgery. The subjective International Knee Documentation Committee score was significantly ameliorated. With regard to the objective International Knee Documentation Committee score, 6 knees (40%) were graded as abnormal because of posterior displacement of 6 mm or greater on follow-up stress radiographs with the Telos device. On the Lysholm knee scoring scale, the score was excellent in 13% of patients and good in 87%. The mean score on the Hospital for Special Surgery knee ligament rating scale was 85.8. The Tegner activity score showed an amelioration after surgery, but no patient resumed his or her preinjury level of activities. The postoperative stress radiographs revealed an improvement in posterior instability of 50% or more in all but 3 knees (20%). CONCLUSIONS: Our technique of double-bundle PCL reconstruction produced a significant reduction in knee symptoms and allowed the patients to return to moderate or strenuous activity, although the posterior tibial translation was not completely normalized and our results appear to be no better than the results of single-bundle PCL reconstruction. Furosemide (FD: Lasix) is a loop diuretic which strongly increases both urine flow and electrolyte urinary excretion. Healthy volunteers were administered 40 mg orally (dissolved in water) and concentrations of FD were determined in serum and urine for up to 6 h for eight subjects, who absorbed water at a rate of 400 ml/h. Quantification was performed by HPLC with fluorescence detection (excitation at 233 nm, emission at 389 nm) with a limit of detection of 5 ng/ml for a 300-microliters sample. The elution of FD was completed within 4 min using a gradient of acetonitrile concentration rising from 30 to 50% in 0.08 M phosphoric acid. The delay to the peak serum concentration ranged from 60 to 120 min. FD was still easily measurable in the sera from all subjects 6 h after administration. In urine, the excretion rates reached their maximum between 1 and 3 h. The total amount of FD excreted in the urine averaged 11.2 mg (range 7.6-14.0 mg), with a mean urine volume of 3024 ml (range 2620-3596 ml). Moreover, the urine density was lower than 1.010 (recommended as an upper limit in doping analysis to screen diuretics) only for 2 h. An additional volunteer was administered 40 mg of FD and his urine was collected over a longer period. FD was still detectable 48 h after intake. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry with different types of ionization was used to confirm the occurrence of FD after permethylation of the extract. Negative-ion chemical ionization, with ammonia as reactant gas, was found to be the most sensitive method of detection.

Objective: To demonstrate the incidence, time course, predisposing factor and reversibility of neurotoxicity in children with brain tumors treated with high dose busulfan-thiotepa with autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) and radiation therapy in our institutional experience.Materials and Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data. Between May 1988 and May 2007, 110 patients, median age 3.6 years (range, 1 months-15.3 years), with brain tumors were treated with surgical intervention and conventional chemotherapy. All patients received one course of high-dose busulfan-thiotepa with stem cell rescue, followed or preceded by radiotherapy.Results: Twenty-three patients (21%) developed neuroradiological abnormalities on follow-up imaging studies at a median time of 9.2 months (range, 5.6-17.3 months) after day 0 of ASCT. All MRI-lesions appeared in patients receiving radiotherapy after ASCT and were localized inside the 50-55 Gy isodoses. They disappeared in 14 of 23 patients with a median time of 8 months (range, 3-17 months). The presence of MRI-abnormalities was a favorable prognostic factor for overall survival on univariate analysis (hazard ratio: 0.12, 95% confidence interval [0.04, 0.33]), with a 5-year overall survival in patients with MRI-abnormalities of 84% (95% CI, 62-94), comparedto 27% (95% CI, 19-37) in those without lesions. On multivariate analysis, the presence of MRI-abnormalities was an independent prognostic factor for overall survival.Conclusion: MRI-detectable brain abnormalities are common early findings in children treated with high-dose busulfan-thiotepa followed by radiation therapy, and may mimic early tumor recurrence. They are correlated with a better outcome.

Background and Aims: Two distinct e ndoscopic phenotypes of E osinophilic Esophagitis (EoE) h ave been identified: t he inflammatory (IP) a nd the stenosing (SP) p henotype. I t is not known whether these EoE-associated phenotypes are reflective of different phases during disease course. We aimed to assess the phenotype a t initial EoE p resentation and d iagnosis and to evaluate if SP increases over time. Methods: R etrospective a nalysis of t he Swiss EoE Database (SEED) extended b y a review of p atients charts, endoscopy and pathology records. Results: F orty-four E oE p atients were a nalyzed (33 males, mean age at index visit 41 ± 14 years, all Caucasians). Median follow-up t ime was 3.1 years (IQR 1-4, r ange 1 -18 years). Median diagnostic delay w as 5 y ears (IQR 2-16, range 0-34 years). A t first diagnosis, 3 2% ( 14/44) o f EoE patients h ad already presented w ith a stenosis. T he mean d iameter o f the stenoses w as 1 0 ± 2 mm, and the mean length was 2 .8 ± 2 .9 cm. Peak e osinophil count d id n ot c hange over t ime (48 ± 39 eos/HPF at index visit vs. 59 ± 41 eos/HPF at end of follow-up, n=44). The risk of the presence of a stenosis at index visit was 0% f or a d isease duration of 0 -4 y ears, 37% f or a d isease duration between 5-10 years and 67% f or a d isease duration >10 years (p = 0.0035, trend test). Conclusions: T he frequency of e sophageal stenoses i s proportional to the disease duration, whereas the inflammatory activity does n ot s ignificantly c hange over t ime. O ur f indings underscore the necessity to reduce diagnostic delay in EoE and to control the underlying inflammatory processes to prevent esophageal remodeling.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the relationships between isokinetic knee flexor and extensor muscle strength and physiological and chronological age in young soccer players. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Seventy-nine young, healthy, male soccer players (mean+/-standard deviation age: 12.78+/-2.88, range: 11 to 15) underwent a clinical examination (age, weight, height, body mass index and Tanner puberty stage) and an evaluation of bilateral knee flexor and extensor muscle strength on an isokinetic dynamometer. Participation in the study was voluntary. RESULTS: The peak torque increased progressively (by 50%) between the ages of 11 and 15 and most significantly between 12 to 14. The knee flexor/extensor ratios only decreased significantly between 14 and 15 years of age. Puberty stage was the most important determinant of the peak torque level (ahead of chronological age, weight and height) for all angular velocities (p<0.0001). Muscle strength increased significantly between Tanner stages 1 and 5, with the greatest increase between stages 2 and 4. CONCLUSION: The present study showed that isokinetic muscle strength increases most between 12 and 13 years of age and between Tanner stages 2 and 3. There was strong correlation between muscle strength and physiological age.

Purpose:To report the functional, anatomic outcome and safety profile of 23-gauge pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) combined with peeling and intravitreal injection of triamcinolone acetonide (TA) in eyes with idiopathic epiretinal membranes (ERM). Methods:Retrospective, nonrandomized study of consecutive patients who underwent 23-gauge transconjunctival sutureless PPV with subsequent membrane peeling and intravitreal TA injection for an idiopathic ERM. All patients were operated between February 2007 and February 2008 at the Jules Gonin University Eye Hospital. The minimum follow-up was 6-months. Results:Thirty-nine eyes of 39 patients were included. The mean follow-up was 7 months (SD: 2.2, range: 6-15 months). Twenty-two (56%) eyes were pseudophakic and 17 (44%) were phakic at the time of surgery. Mean preoperative intraocular pressure (IOP) was 14 mmHg (SD: 3.5). At the final follow-up mean IOP was 14.5 (SD: 2.7) that did not differ significantly from the IOP at baseline (P: 0.14- 2-tailed t test). Five patients (13%) needed temporary topical anti-glaucoma treatment.Mean preoperative BCVA was 0.28 decimal equivalent (logMAR 0.54, SD: 0.2, range: 1.0 - 0.2). and improved significantly (P <0.0001, 2-tailed t test) to a mean of 0.6 decimal equivalent (logMAR 0.22, SD: 0.16, range: 0.6 - 0) at the final follow-up. The visual acuity improved by a mean of 3.2 lines (SD 2.1, range 0- 8). Twenty-nine patients (74%) demonstrated a gain of 3 or more lines.Mean central macular thickness (CMT) was 456 µm (SD: 77) at the baseline that reduced significantly (P <0.0001, 2-tailed t test) at the final follow-up to 327µm (SD: 79). Average CMT reduction was 131µm (SD: 77, range: 36- 380 µm). A subgroup analysis of 15 selected cases that had CMT measurement 1 week after surgery demonstrated that 84% of the total final reduction in CMT occurred during the first week. Conclusions:23-gauge sutureless transconjunctival vitrectomy with the concomitant administration of intravitreal TA is a safe and effective technique for the treatment of idiopathic ERM and may speed up anatomical recovery.

METHODS: Retrospective study of 39 consecutive patients who underwent 23-gauge transconjunctival sutureless vitrectomy, membrane peeling, and intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide injection for an idiopathic macular epiretinal membrane between February 2007 and February 2008. Minimum follow-up was 6 months. RESULTS: Thirty-nine eyes of 39 patients were included in the study. The mean follow-up was 7 +/- 2.2 months (range, 6-15 months). Twenty-two eyes (56%) were pseudophakic and 17 (44%) were phakic at the time of surgery. Five of the phakic eyes (29.4%) had worsening of cataracts during the follow-up period. Mean preoperative intraocular pressure was 14 +/- 3.5 mmHg. At the final follow-up, mean intraocular pressure was 14.5 +/- 2.7 mmHg, which did not differ significantly from the intraocular pressure at baseline (P = 0.14, two-tailed t-test). Five (13%) patients needed topical antiglaucoma treatment. Mean preoperative best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 0.28 decimal equivalent (20/71 Snellen equivalent; logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution 0.54 +/- 0.2, range: 1.0-0.2) and improved significantly (P < 0.0001, two-tailed t-test) to a mean of 0.6 decimal equivalent (20/33 Snellen equivalent; logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution 0.22 +/- 0.16, range: 0.6-0) at the final follow-up. The BCVA improved by a mean of 3.2 +/- 2.1 lines (range: 0-8). Twenty-nine patients (74%) demonstrated a gain of > or =3 lines. Mean central macular thickness was 456 +/- 77 microm (mean +/- SD) at baseline, which was significantly reduced at the final follow-up to 327 +/- 79 microm (mean +/- SD; P < 0.0001, two-tailed t-test). Average central macular thickness reduction was 131 +/- 77 microm (mean +/- SD; range: 36-380 microm). A subgroup analysis of 15 selected cases, which had central macular thickness and BCVA measurements after the first postoperative week, demonstrated that 84% of the total final reduction in central macular thickness and 84% of the total final improvement in BCVA occurred already during the first postoperative week. CONCLUSION: Twenty-three-gauge sutureless transconjunctival vitrectomy is a safe and effective technique for the treatment of idiopathic macular epiretinal membranes. The concomitant administration of intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide after pars plana vitrectomy may speed up and improve the anatomic and functional outcome.

Background. Sevelamer is a phosphate-binder used effectively for the treatment of hyperphosphatemia in patients treated with dialysis. Objectives. To describe the safety of sevelamer in children with hyperphosphatemia secondary to tumor lysis syndrome and the serum phosphate concentrations observed following its administration. Procedure. A retrospective chart review of all children with leukemia/lymphoma diagnosed between November 2002 and April 2004 who received sevelamer during their initial admission was conducted. We monitored the effects of sevelamer on serum phosphate concentration, calcium/phosphate product and renal function at hours 24, 48, and 72 from sevelamer initiation. Results. Thirteen patients received sevelamer during the Study period. Their median age was 13 years (range 2.7-17.9) and eight were boys. Nine children had acute lymphoblastic leukemia, one had acute myeloid leukemia and 3 had non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The most frequently used dose of sevelamer was 400 mg orally twice daily. The median duration of sevelamer therapy was 2 days (range 1 -7). Two children were excluded from the efficacy analysis due to concurrent use of dialysis. Mean serum phosphate levels decreased after sevelamer administration, in eleven patients, from a baseline 2.2 mmol/L +/- 0.4 (95% Cl, 1.7-3.1) to 1.1 mmol/L +/- 0.2 at hour 72 (95%Cl, 0.6-1.5). The only toxicity attributed to sevelamer was mild vomiting in three patients. Conclusions. Sevelamer appears to be effective and tolerable for the treatment of hyperphosphatemia associated with tumor lysis syndrome.

INTRODUCTION: The purpose of our study was to retrospectively evaluate the clinical and radiological results of subtrochanteric fractures treated with a long gamma nail (LGN). The LGN has been the implant of choice at our level-1 trauma center since 1992. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Over a period of 7 years, we have treated 90 consecutive patients with subtrochanteric fractures. In order to evaluate the clinical and radiological outcomes, we reviewed the clinical and radiographic charts of these patients followed for a mean time of 2 years (range 13-36 months). RESULTS: We found no intra- or perioperative complications nor early or late infection. Clinical and radiological union was achieved at a mean of 4.3 months in all of the patients (range 3-9 months); in 24 cases (30%) the distal locking bolts were retrieved in order to enhance callus formation and remodeling as a planned secondary surgery. Three patients (3.3%) needed unplanned secondary surgery for problems related to the nailing technique. Two mechanical failures with breakage of the nail were encountered due to proximal varus malalignment, of which one was treated with exchange nailing and grafting and the other one by removal of the broken hardware, blade-plating, and bone grafting. One fracture below a short LGN was treated by exchange nailing. CONCLUSIONS: The minimally invasive technique and simple application of the LGN lead to a low percentage of complications in these difficult fractures after a relatively short learning curve. The biomechanical properties of this implant allow early mobilization and partial weight-bearing even in patients with advanced osteoporosis.

The purpose of this study is to retrospectively evaluate 18 consecutive cases of peritalar dislocations referred to our department during a period of 25 years and to delineate the factors influencing long-term prognosis. There were 13 (73%) medial and 5 (27%) lateral dislocations. Six patients (33%) suffered an open injury, including 2 of 13 (15%) medial and 4 of 5 (80%) lateral dislocations. Associated fractures involving the hindfoot or forefoot were noted in 7 feet, including 3 of 5 lateral dislocation cases. Reduction was accomplished under general anesthesia; in no case was open reduction necessary. In 4 of 6 open injuries with associated fractures, temporary fixation with Kirschner wires was performed. Patients were immobilized in a plaster cast for 4 weeks, or for 6 weeks in the presence of fracture, followed by weightbearing as tolerated. At a mean follow-up of 10.2 years (range, 4 to 26 years), 10 patients (56%) showed excellent results; all had sustained a closed medial low-energy dislocation. There were 3 cases (17%) with fair results and 5 cases (28%) with poor results. Forty-five percent of patients showed a restriction of activity, a reduction of subtalar range of motion, and moderate or severe radiographic signs of hindfoot degenerative arthritis. There were no cases of talar avascular necrosis, and in no case was secondary surgery necessary. Lateral dislocation and open medial dislocations with concomitant fractures showed a greater potential for poor prognosis. The results were independent from period of cast immobilization, suggesting that 4 to 6 weeks of immobilization provides acceptable long-term results.

With the widespread availability of high-throughput sequencing technologies, sequencing projects have become pervasive in the molecular life sciences. The huge bulk of data generated daily must be analyzed further by biologists with skills in bioinformatics and by "embedded bioinformaticians," i.e., bioinformaticians integrated in wet lab research groups. Thus, students interested in molecular life sciences must be trained in the main steps of genomics: sequencing, assembly, annotation and analysis. To reach that goal, a practical course has been set up for master students at the University of Lausanne: the "Sequence a genome" class. At the beginning of the academic year, a few bacterial species whose genome is unknown are provided to the students, who sequence and assemble the genome(s) and perform manual annotation. Here, we report the progress of the first class from September 2010 to June 2011 and the results obtained by seven master students who specifically assembled and annotated the genome of Estrella lausannensis, an obligate intracellular bacterium related to Chlamydia. The draft genome of Estrella is composed of 29 scaffolds encompassing 2,819,825 bp that encode for 2233 putative proteins. Estrella also possesses a 9136 bp plasmid that encodes for 14 genes, among which we found an integrase and a toxin/antitoxin module. Like all other members of the Chlamydiales order, Estrella possesses a highly conserved type III secretion system, considered as a key virulence factor. The annotation of the Estrella genome also allowed the characterization of the metabolic abilities of this strictly intracellular bacterium. Altogether, the students provided the scientific community with the Estrella genome sequence and a preliminary understanding of the biology of this recently-discovered bacterial genus, while learning to use cutting-edge technologies for sequencing and to perform bioinformatics analyses.

BACKGROUND: Radiation dose exposure is of particular concern in children due to the possible harmful effects of ionizing radiation. The adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction (ASIR) method is a promising new technique that reduces image noise and produces better overall image quality compared with routine-dose contrast-enhanced methods. OBJECTIVE: To assess the benefits of ASIR on the diagnostic image quality in paediatric cardiac CT examinations. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Four paediatric radiologists based at two major hospitals evaluated ten low-dose paediatric cardiac examinations (80 kVp, CTDI(vol) 4.8-7.9 mGy, DLP 37.1-178.9 mGy·cm). The average age of the cohort studied was 2.6 years (range 1 day to 7 years). Acquisitions were performed on a 64-MDCT scanner. All images were reconstructed at various ASIR percentages (0-100%). For each examination, radiologists scored 19 anatomical structures using the relative visual grading analysis method. To estimate the potential for dose reduction, acquisitions were also performed on a Catphan phantom and a paediatric phantom. RESULTS: The best image quality for all clinical images was obtained with 20% and 40% ASIR (p201;<201;0.001) whereas with ASIR above 50%, image quality significantly decreased (p201;<201;0.001). With 100% ASIR, a strong noise-free appearance of the structures reduced image conspicuity. A potential for dose reduction of about 36% is predicted for a 2- to 3-year-old child when using 40% ASIR rather than the standard filtered back-projection method. CONCLUSION: Reconstruction including 20% to 40% ASIR slightly improved the conspicuity of various paediatric cardiac structures in newborns and children with respect to conventional reconstruction (filtered back-projection) alone.

Context: In the past 50 years, the use of prosthetic mesh in surgery has dramatically¦changed the management of primary, as well as incisional hernias. Currently, there¦are a large number of different mesh brands and no consensus on the best material,¦nor the best mesh implantation technique to use. The purpose of this study is to¦illustrate the adverse effects of intraperitoneal onlay mesh used for incisional¦hernia repair encountered in patients treated at CHUV for complications after¦incisional hernia repair.¦Materials & Methods: This work is an observational retrospective study. A PubMed¦search and a systematic review of literature were performed. Thereafter, the medical¦records of 22 patients who presented with pain, abdominal discomfort, ileus, fistula,¦abscess, seroma, mesh infection or recurrent incisional hernia after a laparoscopic or¦open repair with intra-abdominal mesh were reviewed.¦Results: Twenty-two persons were reoperated for complications after incisional¦hernia repair with a prosthetic mesh. Ten were male and twelve female, with a¦median age of 58,6 years (range 24-82). Mesh placement was performed by a¦laparoscopic approach in nine patients and by open approach in thirteen others.¦Eight different mesh brands were found (Ultrapro®, Mersilene®, Parietex Composite®,¦Proceed®, DynaMesh®, Gore® DualMesh®, Permacol®, Titanium Metals UK Ltd®).¦Mean time from implantation and reoperation for complication was 34.2 months¦(range 1-147). In our sample of 22 patients, 21 (96%) presented mesh adhesion and¦15 (68%) presented hernia recurrence. Others complications like mesh shrinkage,¦mesh migration, nerve entrapment, seroma, fistula and abscess were also evaluated.¦Conclusion: The majority of articles deal with complications induced by¦intraperitoneal prosthetic mesh, but the effectiveness of mesh has been studied¦mostly on experimental models. Actually and as shown in the present study,¦intraperitoneal mesh placement was associated with severe complications witch may¦potentially be life threatening. In our opinion, intraperitoneal mesh placement should¦only be reserved in exceptional situations, when the modified Rives-Stoppa could not¦be achieved and when tissues covering the mesh are insufficient.

Purpose: Cystoid macular oedema (CMO) is a very rare condition following cataract surgery in paediatric population. Nevertheless, we report a case series of patients with radiation induced cataract after retinoblastoma (Rb) treatment that underwent cataract surgery and developed subsequently late onset CMO. Methods: Between January 1984 and December 2009, 25 consecutive eyes (25 patients) with Rb presented with radiation induced cataract surgery at the Jules Gonin Eye Hospital. Sixteen eyes (16 patients) had prior radiation induced retinopathy and maculopathy (IRM). Out of these, 3 eyes (3 patients) developed CMO after cataract surgery. Results: One eye had Rb stage B, and 2 eyes had stage D International classification. All of them developed IRM following brachytherapy and/or external beam irradiation. Patients underwent phako-aspiration and in bag intraocular lens implantation after IRM had resolved. Mean age at cataract surgery was 10.7 ± 2.8 (SEM) (range 5-14) years old. Mean time between resolution of IRM and cataract surgery was 76.0 ± 27.2 (SEM) (range 24-116) months. Mean time of onset CMO after cataract surgery was 81.0 ± 34.4 (SEM) (range 13-124) months. There was no other underlying vascular or tractional factor for CMO development. All of them were treated with a combination of oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, topical steroid and topical non-steroid. Mean macular thickness pre-, during-, and post CMO were 134.0 ± 10.3, 298.0 ± 37.1, and 154.0 ± 4.0 (SEM) µm, respectively. Mean best corrected visual acuity pre-, during-, and post CMO were 0.31 ± 0.19, 0.46 ± 0.12, and 0.34 ± 0.18 (SEM) LogMAR, respectively. Mean time for CMO reabsorption was 17.0 ± 9.8 (SEM) months. Conclusions: To the best of our knowledge, CMO following paediatric cataract surgery is a very uncommon condition. Moreover, late onset CMO after phako-aspiration for radiation induced cataract in Rb patients has never been described. It is a rare complication but can be treated successfully.
