Motherhood and reproduction have been at the core of the feminist discourse about women's rights ever since its onset. For the first and second feminist movements, the right to abortion and the public recognition of motherhood have been main issues in the discourse on reproduction. Since the last two dec- ades of the 20th century, the potentials of assisted reproductive technologies (ART) have opened up new venues of feminist discourse. In this paper we sketch the main feminist lines of argumentation regarding motherhood and reproduction since the 1970s, and we identify specific shifts in their recurrent issues. We argue that an essential contribution of feminism to the understanding of motherhood as a structuring category has been its insis- tence on the distinction between biological and social motherhood. Feminist discourse shows how ART has further decomposed biological motherhood and has altered the meaning of motherhood and reproduction. Feminist analysis maintains that despite the rhetoric of choice surrounding ART, these technolo- gies have not increased women's reproductive freedom. The decomposition of biological motherhood, the medical, legal, and commercial development of re- production, and the change in the social perception of motherhood have rather established new forms of control over female reproduction.

Research suggests that respiratory patterns may reflect general dimensions of emotional response. In this study, we investigated the relationships between judgments of affective valence (pleasantness) and arousal and respiratory responses to acoustic stimuli. Sixteen environmental noises and 16 musical fragments of 30 s duration were presented to 31 participants, while respiration, skin conductance level and heart rate were recorded. Judgments of valence and arousal were registered using the 9-point Self-Assessment Manikin. For noises, breathing accelerated and minute ventilation augmented with decreases in pleasantness for low-arousal stimuli and with increases in arousal for positive stimuli. For music, breathing accelerated and minute ventilation augmented with increases both in rated valence and arousal. Skin conductance level increased with arousal ratings for music but not for noises, whereas mean heart rate increased with rated arousal for noises but not for music. Although both noises and music are sound-vibrations, differences in the relationships between affective judgments and physiological responses were found suggesting differences in the processing of the two types of acoustic stimuli. ABSTRACT : Many workers are exposed to bioaerosols such as bacteria, fungi, viruses or fragments of microorganisms. These bioaerosols can be responsible of infectious (e.g. legionellosis) or non infectious diseases (mainly respiratory symptoms). However, for a majority of them, the relationship between exposure and effects on human health is not clearly established. This is mainly due to the lack of valid quantitative assessment methods. Real-time quantitative PCR (Q-PCR) is a tool based on the quantification of DNA, of which the potential for the quantification of bioaerosols in work environments has not yet been explored. The aim of this work was to develop a Q-PCR method permitting to quantify bioaerosols -mainly bacteria and to apply those techniques in occupational environments. In this work, Q-PCR was applied to the quantification of pathogens, of specific taxonomic groups and of the total bacterial load in two different occupational settings, namely wastewater treatment plants and poultry houses. We showed that Q-PCR : 1) is capable of quantifying difficult to cultivate pathogens; when they are present at high concentrations, 2) has the potential to be a useful tool for studying bacterial communities in the air of work environments, 3) is as efficient as epifluorescence for the quantification of total bacterial load, and is a promising alternative to the culture-dependent methods. Q-PCR could be used to establish doses-responses relationships for bacterial load, either in populations of highly exposed workers such as poultry farmers, or by exposing cells to concentrations of bioaerosols quantified with Q-PCR.

In the circum-Pacific ophiolitic belts, when no other biogenic constituents are found, radiolarians have the potential to provide significant biostratigraph- ic information. The Santa Rosa Accretionary Complex, which crops out in several half-windows (Carrizal, Sitio Santa Rosa, Bahia Nancite, Playa Naranjo) along the south shores of the Santa Elena Peninsula in northwestern Costa Rica, is one of these little-known ophiolitic mélanges. It contains various oceanic assemblages of alkaline basalt, radiolarite and polymictic breccias. The radiolarian biochronology presented in this work is mainly based by correlation on the biozonations of Carter et al. (2010), Baumgartner et al. (1995b), and O'Dogherty (1994) and indicate an Early Jurassic to early Late Cretaceous (early Pliensbachian to earliest Turonian) age for the sediments associated with oceanic basalts or recovered from blocks in breccias or megabreccias. The 19 illus- trated assemblages from the Carrizal tectonic window and Sitio Santa Rosa contain in total 162 species belonging to 65 genera. The nomenclature of tecton- ic units is the one presented by (Baumgartner and Denyer, 2006). This study brings to light the Early Jurassic age of a succession of radiolarite, which was previously thought to be of Cretaceous age, intruded by alkaline basalts sills (Unit 3). The presence of Early Jurassic large reworked blocks in a polymictic megabreccia, firstly reported by De Wever et al. (1985) is confirmed (Unit 4). Therefore, the alkaline basalt associated with the radiolarites of these two units (and maybe also Units 5 and 8) could be of Jurassic age. In the Carrizal tectonic window, Middle to early Late Jurassic radiolarian chert blocks associ- ated with massive tholeitic basalts and Early Cretaceous brick-red ribbon cherts overlying pillow basalts are interpreted as fragments of a Middle Jurassic oceanic basement accreted to an Early Cretaceous oceanic Plate, in an intra-oceanic subduction context. Whereas, the knobby radiolarites and black shales of Playa Carrizal are indicative of a shallower middle Cretaceous paleoenvironment. Other remnants of this oceanic basin are found in Units 2, 6, and 7, which documented the rapid approach of the depocentre to a subduction trench during the late Early Cretaceous (Albian-Cenomanian), to possibly early Late Cretaceous (Turonian).

Drawing on a dialogical approach inspired by Bakhtin, we start from the assumptionthat a concrete discussion is an intermingling between dialogue in praesentia and dialogue inabsentia, and we refer to the notion of 'enunciative positioning' to account for the variousrelations that a speaker may express towards the voices that he or she invokes. Our data arebased on a first therapeutic interview between a therapist, a mother and a child in a counselingcenter for children and adolescents. We identify the various voices invoked in this interviewand show that three levels of discursive process were involved: (a) the speakers invokedabsent speakers; (b) at the same time they developed their own discourse on the basis of theirinterlocutors' discourse which (c) itself drew on absent speakers or voices. We highlight thevarious discursive processes through which the speakers integrate their own voice into absentvoices, or integrate a distant voice so that it loses its property of being a distant (andborrowed) voice. As a theoretical and methodological contribution to dialogism, our resultsshow that absent voices and their specific intermingling with hic et nunc exchanges were amajor resource for therapeutic changes.
