Zum einen soll er das Nationale Forschungsprogramm 40plus und seine Projekte präsentieren (die alle mit Beiträgen präsent sind), zum anderen sollen diese nationalen Beiträge in eine internationale Perspektive gestellt werden, sodass in der Übersicht und Umschau eine Verortung der schweizerischen Forschung (und damit auch des NFP40plus selbst) und ihrer Resultate möglich wird. Eingeladen wurden dazu führende europäische Forscher auf dem Gebiet des Rechtsextremismus.

Fermeture percutanée de l'auricule gauche: un nouvel espoir pour le patient en fibrillation auriculaire [Percutaneous closure of left atrial appendage: a new hope for patients with atrial fibrillation?].

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia. The risk of thromboembolic events is important, and at that time, there is no definite treatment for AF. Oral anticoagulation also represents a hemorrhagic risk factor. Ninety percent of atrial thrombi are located within the left atrial appendage. The percutaneous closure of this left atrial appendage with a device has been shown to decrease thromboembolic events even after interruption of oral anticoagulation as compared to warfarin in a recent randomized study. Recent data support this innovative technique as a reasonable alternative to long term anticoagulation in patients at high risk of bleeding.

It presents the dynamics at work in 36 first division leagues in UEFA member countries. This edition covers our biggest ever survey comprising more than 520 clubs and 13,000 footballers. Statistical indicators relative to nine thematics (morphology, age, experience training, origin, etc.) allow the comparison of player profiles and squad compositions at league and club level. Through easily-understable regression analyses, the Study brings to light the principle differences between clubs and leagues according to economic and sporting level of championships. Cellules gliales et douleur chronique: du laboratoire a l'espoir clinique [Glial cells and chronic pain: from the laboratory to clinical hope].

Despite their high prevalence, associated disability and seemingly rich pharmacopeia, the various forms of chronic pain remain frequently intractable. The past decade witnessed the rise of a concept stating that non-neuronal cells of the central nervous system, astrocytes and microglia, are crucial elements in pathological pain. This review gathers and summarizes the experimental data underpinning this theory in animal models and addresses their pertinence in humans. The potential opportunities and constraints of glial inhibition are exposed and compared to more moderate strategies of selective modulation. This therapeutic hope is particularly highlighted in our discussion of the first completed clinical trials employing glial inhibitors in the treatment of chronic pain.
