Le Vallon de Nant, situé dans les Alpes vaudoises, attire depuis longtemps les naturalistes et scientifiques. Il a été classé comme réserve naturelle en 1969. Les premières Journées de la biodiversité en Romandie y ont été organisées les 5 et 6 juillet 2008 afin d'améliorer la connaissance des espèces vivant dans le Vallon de Nant, avant l'établissement d'un plan de gestion de la réserve naturelle. Une cinquantaine de scientifiques ont participé à cet inventaire de la faune et de la flore. Ce Mémoire de la Société vaudoise des Sciences naturelles compte 15 articles rédigés par les participants à ces journées et font l'inventaire des richesses spécifiques du Vallon de Nant. Des champignons aux mammifères en passant par les lichens, les mousses, les plantes à fleurs, les escargots, les insectes, les amphibiens, les reptiles et les oiseaux, c'est un inventaire exhaustif des quelque 2000 espèces connues actuellement dans le Vallon de Nant, dont plus de 1100 recensées durant les Journées de la biodiversité. Agrémenté de 157 photos couleurs, dont celles du photographe-naturaliste Daniel Aubort de Montreux, ces 240 pages permettent de découvrir les richesses de cette réserve naturelle créée en 1969, pour éviter d'y voir arriver les chars de l'armée suisse qui désirait alors en faire une place d'armes.

This factsheet gives a short presentation of a case study conducted in Lombok Island (Indonesia). In 6 pages, it focuses on the complexity of PES scheme embedment in public policies. This factsheet describes and explicitly distinguishes three PES initiatives, and explain the reasons for such an evolution in the design of policy instruments aimed at protecting groundwater resources. The results presented have previously been published in an Working Paper: de Buren G., 2013. Introduction: Developments in technology, webbased teaching and whole slide imaging have broadened the teaching horizon in anatomic pathology. Creating online learning material including many types of media like radiologic images, videos, clinical and macroscopic photographs and whole slides imaging is now accessible to almost every university. Unfortunately, a major limiting factor to maintain and update the learning material is the amount of work, time and resources needed. In this perspective, a French national university network was initiated in 2011 to build mutualised online teaching pathology modules with clinical cases and tests. This network has been extended to an international level in 2012-2014 (Quebec, Switzerland and Ivory Coast). Method: One of the first steps of the international project was to build a learning module on inflammatory skin pathology intended for interns and residents of pathology and dermatology. A pathology resident from Quebec spent 6 weeks in France and Switzerland to develop the contents and build the module on an e-learning Moodle platform (http: //moodle.sorbonne-paris-cite.fr) under the supervision of two dermatopathologists (BV, MB). The learning module contains text, interactive clinical cases, tests with feedback, whole slides images (WSI), images and clinical photographs. For that module, the virtual slides are decentralized in 2 universities (Bordeaux and Paris 7). Each university is responsible of its own slide scanning, image storage and online display with virtual slide viewers. Results: The module on inflammatory skin pathology includes more than 50 web pages with French original content, tests and clinical cases, links to over 45 WSI and more than 50 micro and clinical photographs. The whole learning module is currently being revised by four dermatopathologists and two senior pathologists. It will be accessible to interns and residents in spring 2014. The experience and knowledge gained from that work will be transferred to the next international fellowship intern whose work will be aimed at creating lung and breast pathology learning modules. Conclusion: The challenges of sustaining a project of this scope are numerous. The technical aspect of whole-slide imaging and storage needs to be developed by each university or group. The content needs to be regularly updated, completed and its use and existence needs to be promoted by the different actors in pathology. Of the great benefits of that kind of project are the international partnerships and connections that have been established between numerous Frenchspeaking universities and pathologists with the common goals of promoting education in pathology and the use of technology including whole slide imaging. * The Moodle website is hosted by PRES Sorbonne Paris Cité, and financial supports for hardware have been obtained from UNF3S (http://www.unf3s.org/) and PRES Sorbonne Paris Cité. Ce texte vise à mettre en évidence les problèmes d'insertion que connaissent les personnes en situation de pauvreté. Les programmes qui oeuvrent à leur intégration s'avèrent complexes à mettre sur pied. Leurs résultats sont d'ailleurs délicats à mesurer. Lorsqu'il est question d'insertion de personnes en marge, leur motivation à se sortir de leur situation est souvent mise en évidence. Pourtant, pour qu'une intégration puisse aboutir, il est nécessaire qu'il y ait convergence d'intérêts entre, d'une part, les personnes ou les groupes à intégrer et, de l'autre, le groupe intégrant, à savoir la grande majorité de la population ou encore les employeurs potentiels. Dans une première partie, ces pages décrivent les problèmes conceptuels qui se posent lorsque l'on décrit le statut des pauvres dans les sociétés développées. Au travers du statut de pauvreté, conféré au personnes concernées, il est surtout question d'une régulation sociales. Dans une seconde partie, ce texte présente les résultats de l'observation d'une vingtaine de trajectoires de bénéficiaires de mesures d'insertion sociale dites "bas seuil" dans le canton de Vaud. Ces personnes se caractérisent par une situation de mise en marge des réseaux économiques et sociaux.

L'affirmation de soi à travers l'adoption d'un pseudonyme se présente comme une forme d'autocréation qui répond à l'acte d'écriture, en tant que forme première d'une individualité dans la langue. Le nouveau nom remplit la fonction symbolique d'invention de soi par la nomination, tout en jouant, chez certains écrivains d'Afrique noire, de l'inscription d'une autre langue au sein de l'onomastique française. Pour certains d'entre eux, l'autonomination apparaît même comme un acte de guérilla, une affirmation de soi et non une dissimulation, marquée au coin de l'onomastique africaine et d'un contexte historico-politique qui lui donne sens. Dans le cadre de cet article, à considérer comme l'esquisse d'une réflexion abordant un champ encore peu exploré, il s'agit d'envisager les divers enjeux de la nomination en Afrique noire, puis d'interroger les pratiques d'écrivains pseudonymes, tels Sony Labou Tansi, Mongo Beti et Ken Bugul, qui constituent des cas de figure particulièrement significatifs de cette pratique. Self-affirmation via the adoption of a pseudonym constitues a form of self-creation springing from the act of writing, in the guise of a primary shape given within language to an individual. The new name fulfills the symbolic function of inventing oneself through nomination while playing on - in the instance of certain black African writers - the inscription of another language within French onomastics. For one, self-naming appears as a « guerilla action », an affirmation of self and not its dissimulation, marked on the edges by African onomastics and an historico-political context that gives the meaning. In this article, offered as an outline of an approch to an little-explored field of investigation, we seek to identify the various stakes related to naming in black Africa, before examining specific techniques demonstrated by pseudonymous writers such as Sony Labou Tansi, Mongo Beti, and Ken Bugul, taken as exemplary and particulary significant in this domain.

RESULTS: The module on inflammatory skin pathology includes more than 50 web pages with French original content, tests and clinical cases, links to over 45 virtual images and more than 50 microscopic and clinical photographs. The whole learning module is being revised by four dermatopathologists and two senior pathologists. It will be accessible to interns and residents in the spring of 2014. The experience and knowledge gained from that work will be transferred to the next international resident whose work will be aimed at creating lung and breast pathology learning modules. CONCLUSION: The challenges of sustaining a project of this scope are numerous. The technical aspect of whole-slide imaging and storage needs to be developed by each university or group. The content needs to be regularly updated and its accuracy reviewed by experts in each individual domain. The learning modules also need to be promoted within the academic community to ensure maximal benefit for trainees. A collateral benefit of the project was the establishment of international partnerships between French-speaking universities and pathologists with the common goal of promoting pathology education through the use of multi-media technology including whole slide imaging.

ViralZone (http://viralzone.expasy.org) is a knowledge repository that allows users to learn about viruses including their virion structure, replication cycle and host-virus interactions. The information is divided into viral fact sheets that describe virion shape, molecular biology and epidemiology for each viral genus, with links to the corresponding annotated proteomes of UniProtKB. Each viral genus page contains detailed illustrations, text and PubMed references. This new update provides a linked view of viral molecular biology through 133 new viral ontology pages that describe common steps of viral replication cycles shared by several viral genera. This viral cell-cycle ontology is also represented in UniProtKB in the form of annotated keywords. In this way, users can navigate from the description of a replication-cycle event, to the viral genus concerned, and the associated UniProtKB protein records.

Orientation: Research that considers the effects of individual characteristics and job characteristics jointly in burnout is necessary, especially when one considers the possibility of curvilinear relationships between job characteristics and burnout. Research purpose: This study examines the contribution of sense of coherence (SOC) and job characteristics to predicting burnout by considering direct and moderating effects. Motivation for this study: Understanding the relationships of individual and job characteristics with burnout is necessary for preventing burnout. It also informs the design of interventions. Research design, approach and method: The participants were 632 working adults (57% female) in South Africa. The measures included the Job Content Questionnaire, the Sense of Coherence Questionnaire and the Maslach Burnout Inventory. The authors analysed the data using hierarchical multiple regression with the enter method. Main findings: Job characteristics and SOC show the expected direct effects on burnout. SOC has a direct negative effect on burnout. Job demands and supervisor social support show nonlinear relationships with burnout. SOC moderates the effect of demands on burnout and has a protective function so that the demands-burnout relationship differs for those with high and low SOC. Practical/managerial implications: The types of effects, the shape of the stressor-strain relationship and the different contributions of individual and job characteristics have implications for designing interventions. Contribution/value add: SOC functions differently when combined with demands, control and support. These different effects suggest that it is not merely the presence or absence of a job characteristic that is important for well-being outcomes but how people respond to its presence or absence.

In this study, we enlarged our previous investigation focusing on the biodiversity of chlamydiae and amoebae in a drinking water treatment plant, by the inclusion of two additional plants and by searching also for the presence of legionellae and mycobacteria. Autochthonous amoebae were recovered onto non-nutritive agar, identified by 18S rRNA gene sequencing, and screened for the presence of bacterial endosymbionts. Bacteria were also searched for by Acanthamoeba co-culture. From a total of 125 samples, we recovered 38 amoebae, among which six harboured endosymbionts (three chlamydiae and three legionellae). In addition, we recovered by amoebal co-culture 11 chlamydiae, 36 legionellae (no L. pneumophila), and 24 mycobacteria (all rapid-growers). Two plants presented a similar percentage of samples positive for chlamydiae (11%), mycobacteria (20%) and amoebae (27%), whereas in the third plant the number of recovered bacteria was almost twice higher. Each plant exhibited a relatively high specific microbiota. Amoebae were mainly represented by various Naegleria species, Acanthamoeba species and Hartmannella vermiformis. Parachlamydiaceae were the most abundant chlamydiae (8 strains in total), and in this study we recovered a new genus-level strain, along with new chlamydiae previously reported. Similarly, about 66% of the recovered legionellae and 47% of the isolated mycobacteria could represent new species. Our work highlighted a high species diversity among legionellae and mycobacteria, dominated by putative new species, and it confirmed the presence of chlamydiae in these artificial water systems.
