El present treball pretén donar llum a una sèrie de topònims majors de la Ribagorça occidental, tot al llarg de la vall mitjana i inferior del riu Éssera. Aquests topònims es remunten a temps molt antics: preromans, romans i germnics bàsicament. Aquesta anàlisi permet apreciar l'estratigrafi a lingüística de la zona. La no-aparició de topònims d'origen àrab en el nostre treball no vol dir que no hi hagués penetració àrab a la zona, sinó que la seva arribada va ser posterior a la creació dels principals nuclis de població. Sí que hi ha topònims àrabs a la toponímia menor, que resta fora del present treball.

Resveratrol is a polyphenol that is mainly found in grapes and red wine and has been reported to be a caloric restriction (CR) mimetic driven by Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) activation. Resveratrol increases metabolic rate, insulin sensitivity, mitochondrial biogenesis and physical endurance, and reduces fat accumulation in mice. In addition, resveratrol may be a powerful agent to prevent age-associated neurodegeneration and to improve cognitive deficits in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Moreover, different findings support the view that longevity in mice could be promoted by CR. In this study, we examined the role of dietary resveratrol in SAMP8 mice, a model of age-related AD. We found that resveratrol supplements increased mean life expectancy and maximal life span in SAMP8 and in their control, the related strain SAMR1. In addition, we examined the resveratrol-mediated neuroprotective effects on several specific hallmarks of AD. We found that long-term dietary resveratrol activates AMPK pathways and pro-survival routes such as SIRT1 in vivo. It also reduces cognitive impairment and has a neuroprotective role, decreasing the amyloid burden and reducing tau hyperphosphorylation.

SAMP8 is a strain of mice with accelerated senescence. These mice have recently been the focus of attention as they show several alterations that have also been described in Alzheimer"s disease (AD) patients. The number of dendritic spines, spine plasticity, and morphology are basic to memory formation. In AD, the density of dendritic spines is severely decreased. We studied memory alterations using the object recognition test. We measured levels of synaptophysin as a marker of neurotransmission and used Golgi staining to quantify and characterize the number and morphology of dendritic spines in SAMP8 mice and in SAMR1 as control animals. While there were no memory differences at 3 months of age, the memory of both 6- and 9-month-old SAMP8 mice was impaired in comparison with age-matched SAMR1 mice or young SAMP8 mice. In addition, synaptophysin levels were not altered in young SAMP8 animals, but SAMP8 aged 6 and 9 months had less synaptophysin than SAMR1 controls and also less than 3-month-old SAMP8 mice. Moreover, while spine density remained stable with age in SAMR1 mice, the number of spines started to decrease in SAMP8 animals at 6 months, only to get worse at 9 months. Our results show that from 6 months onwards SAMP8 mice show impaired memory. This age coincides with that at which the levels of synaptophysin and spine density decrease. Thus, we conclude that together with other studies that describe several alterations at similar ages, SAMP8 mice are a very suitable model for studying AD.

The autophagic process is a lysosomal degradation pathway, which is activated during stress conditions, such as starvation or exercise. Regular exercise has beneficial effects on human health, including neuroprotection. However, the cellular mechanisms underlying these effects are incompletely understood. Endurance and a single bout of exercise induce autophagy not only in brain but also in peripheral tissues. However, little is known whether autophagy could be modulated in brain and peripheral tissues by long-term moderate exercise. Here, we examined the effects on macroautophagy process of long-term moderate treadmill training (36 weeks) in adult rats both in brain (hippocampus and cerebral cortex) and peripheral tissues (skeletal muscle, liver and heart). We assessed mTOR activation and the autophagic proteins Beclin 1, p62, LC3B (LC3B-II/LC3B-I ratio) and the lysosomal protein LAMP1, as well as the ubiquitinated proteins. Our results showed in the cortex of exercised rats an inactivation of mTOR, greater autophagy flux (increased LC3-II/LC3-I ratio and reduced p62) besides increased LAMP1. Related with these effects a reduction in the ubiquitinated proteins was observed. No significant changes in the autophagic pathway were found either in hippocampus or in skeletal and cardiac muscle by exercise. Only in the liver of exercised rats mTOR phosphorylation and p62 levels increased, which could be related with beneficial metabolic effects in this organ induced by exercise. Thus, our findings suggest that long-term moderate exercise induces autophagy specifically in the cortex

L’objectiu de l’estudi és respondre a la pregunta: Quan i emprant quins criteris es possible afirmar l’existència d’Estat a la Xina? A l’apartat teòric es realitza una revisió crítica de la categoria “Mode de Producció Asiàtic” i de les diferents definicions i causes de desenvolupament de l’Estat. Es presenten els fonaments d’una concepció materialista històrica de l’Estat. A l’apartat pràctic es contrasta la hipòtesi de l’existència d’Estat analitzant dues societats successives: els grups neolítics Henan Longshan (2800-1900 cal ANE) i els Erlitou d’inicis de l’Edat del Bronze (1900-1500 cal ANE)

Amb aquest treball volem presentar una proposta de guia de lectura del Desconhort de Ramon Llull en format d’edició divulgativa dirigida a un lector culte no especialitzat. Amb aquesta voluntat d’acompanyar el lector contemporani en la comprensió d’aquesta obra, hem organitzat el treball de la manera següent: una introducció que ressegueix els fils principals de l’obra, seguida de la versió original del text regularitzada segons la normativa actual encarada amb una versió moderna en prosa que té el suport de notes aclaridores i del text i d’un glossari que recull els mots antics que avui han caigut en desús

A series of circumstances which converge in a little valley in the province of Girona, result in a peculiar type of morphogenetic evolution and a quite singular mechanical instability of its buttons. Very recent tectonic movements as well as dissolution phenomena of its subsoil due to pressurized underground water have played an important role in the morphogenesis. Such conditions have resulted in a fast morphological evolution which a progressive lowering of the valley floor as well as peculiar morphological features which favour the existence of numerous pits caused by sudden collapses distributed in altitude and time

The influence of geomorphological and hydrologic conditions on travertine deposit formation has been studied in Cogolls Valley (Girona, Spain). Results indicate an evolutive sequence of the Quaternary materials, that is related to instabilities created by progresive changes into the valley system

Los cambios en los usos del suelo han contribuido de manera importante al incremento de gases de efecto invernadero en la atmsfera, especialmente de dióxido de carbono, aumentando sus emisiones desde 1970 en un 80%. Estos cambios causan la alteración de los suelos provocando un impacto sobre el ciclo del carbono, aumentando las tasas de descomposición de la fracción orgánica creando así un flujo de CO2 a la atmosfera. Entre las recomendaciones del Panel Intergubernamental de expertos sobre el Cambio Climtico (IPCC, en inglés), y contemplado en el Protocolo de Kyoto, se encuentra el proceso de secuestro de carbono en suelos, que implica la eliminación del CO2 atmosférico por parte de las plantas y su almacenamiento como materia orgánica del suelo. Para poder favorecer dicho proceso, en un determinado tipo de ecosistema, es fundamental conocer cuáles son los factores que gobiernan la respiración del suelo y el impacto que tienen los diferentes usos en la emisión de CO2. En el presente trabajo se han estudiado 4 usos del suelo representativos del secano aragonés: un monocultivo de cebada en siembra directa (NT), un suelo abandonado labrado (AC), un suelo abandonado no alterado (AU) y un suelo forestal (FR) con el objetivo de conocer sus tasas de respiración, la influencia de diferentes parámetros edáficos en ellas, y proponer cambios en el uso del suelo que ayuden a mitigar estas emisiones. Adems, se ha dedicado un apartado para conocer cómo influyen diferentes técnicas de fertilización nitrogenada (mineral y orgánica) en la respiración de un monocultivo de cebada en siembra directa. En cuanto a los usos, los resultados obtenidos tanto in situ como en laboratorio muestran una mayor respiración en AC, siendo los valores ms bajos los de NT y FR. Una de las principales conclusiones es que la supresión del laboreo y del periodo de barbecho largo, así como la conversión de tierras abandonadas y marginales a cultivos y zonas forestales se presentan en este tipo de ecosistemas como prácticas de secuestro de carbono. En el estudio de aplicación de fertilizantes, no se observó ningún cambio en la respiración del suelo después de la aplicación de nitrógeno mineral. En cambio, el suelo fertilizado con purín sí que mostró picos de emisión durante las siguientes horas a la incorporación de éste, debido fundamentalmente a su alto contenido de carbono lábil.
