En noviembre de 2006, Nicaragua se unió a los países latinoamericanos que han apostado por que la izquierda vuelva a gobernar el país. En el presente trabajo sus autoras realizan una reflexión sobre el devenir postrevolucionario en Nicaragua en relación con una de sus figuras claves, Daniel Ortega. Una aproximación personal a uno de los líderes históricos del sandinismo contextualizada con el papel desempeñado por Ortega en la política moderna nicaragüense, considerando que los liderazgos personales están primando en la política nacional frente a las necesidades reales de una sociedad que está atravesando una grave crisis interna.

The Economic Effects of Christian Moralities

This article examines the different influences that Catholicism and Protestantism exert on economically relevant values. It argues that Catholic theology and practice facilitate personal transactions while Protestantism favors values and types of moral and legal enforcement better adapted for impersonal trade. Protestantism may thus be more conducive to economic growth through anonymous exchange while Catholicism may provide better support for personal contracting. Several components of this hypothesis are confirmed using statistical models with data from the 1998 ISSP international survey on religion. These show that Protestants are more trusting of anonymous counter parties, develop more reliable institutions for legal enforcement and are more willing to spend resources on monitoring and punishing other members of the community. Catholicism is more protective of the family and small-group relationships, and provides more tolerant and less motivating beliefs. Relatively smaller and less consistent differences appear in terms of worldly personal success and incentives.

El arqueólogo enamorado va precedido de un prólogo escrito con amor por Carmen Rigalt, periodista y madre del autor. Bajo el subtítulo Historia oculta de la arqueología española: de los hallazgos fortuitos a los falsificadores de tesoros, se plantea un proyecto elogiable, que aspira a ofrecer un panorama completo del pasado hispánico, desde la más remota prehistoria a los visigodos, haciendo cuadrar, de forma bastante equilibrada, la amplia geografía peninsular en 14 capítulos y una introducción.

El col·loqui s"articulà al voltant de diverses temàtiques, que anaven des de la historiografia de la lingüística romànica fins a les propostes actuals de gestió lingüística (didàctica, protecció de llengües amenaçades), passant per altres temes; tot això, amb el denominador comú de la intenció de fer un estat de la lingüística romànica en un moment en què, si bé és cultivada en institucions diverses i en un esplet de congressos i altres trobades científiques, perd terreny en l"ensenyament universitari, on la perspectiva global i comparatista s"està abandonant.

Synthesis and structure - Activity relationship study of potent cytotoxic analogues of the marine alkaloid Lamellarin D

The marine alkaloid, Lamellarin D (Lam-D), has shown potent cytotoxicity in numerous cancer cell lines, and was recently identified as a potent topoisomerase I inhibitor. A library of open lactone analogs of Lam-D was prepared from a methyl 5,6-dihydropyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinoline-3- carboxylate scaffold (1) by introducing various aryl groups through sequential and regioselective bromination, followed by Pd(0)-catalyzed Suzuki cross-coupling chemistry. The compounds were obtained in a 24-44% overall yield, and tested in a panel of three human tumor cell lines, MDA-MB- 231 (breast), A-549 (lung), and HT-29 (colon), to evaluate their cytotoxic potential. From these data the SAR study concluded that more than 75% of the open-chain Lam-D analogs tested showed cytotoxicity in a low micromolar GI50 range.

Total synthesis of lamellarin D and analogs library

Larnellarins are a group of marine natural products isolated from the prosobranch mollusc Lamellaria sp., the ascidian Didemnum sp., and the sponge Dendrilla Cactos. Several of them exhibit interesting biological activities. Natural as well as synthetic lamellarins should be excellent candidates for the development of new drugs due to their unique skeletal structure and their important biological activities especially as antitumor agents. Lamelarin O has been recently characterized as a topoisomerase 1-targeted anti tumor agent. A variety of synthetic approaches have been developed for this family of alkaloids. Herein we describe a new route to the synthesis of Lamellarin D, from a methyl 2-pyrrolecarboxylate. Transformation of the starting material into the scaffold, a substituted 5,6-dihydropyrrolo (2,l ­a)isoquinoline (5,6-DHPl), was afforded by N-alkylation followed by intramolecular Heck cyclization. From this scaffold the synthetic strategy is based on two sequential regioselective bromination!Suzuki cross-coupling reactions which permitted the introduction of differently substituted aryl groups on positions 1 and 2 followed by oxidation, deprotection, and lactonization.
