While the Internet has given educators access to a steady supply of Open Educational Resources, the educational rubrics commonly shared on the Web are generally in the form of static, non-semantic presentational documents or in the proprietary data structures of commercial content and learning management systems.With the advent of Semantic Web Standards, producers of online resources have a new framework to support the open exchange of software-readable datasets. Despite these advances, the state of the art of digital representation of rubrics as sharable documents has not progressed.This paper proposes an ontological model for digital rubrics. This model is built upon the Semantic Web Standards of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), principally the Resource Description Framework (RDF) and Web Ontology Language (OWL).

Existing digital rights management (DRM) systems, initiatives like Creative Commons or research works as some digital rights ontologies provide limited support for content value chains modelling and management. This is becoming a critical issue as content markets start to profit from the possibilities of digital networks and the World Wide Web. The objective is to support the whole copyrighted content value chain across enterprise or business niches boundaries. Our proposal provides a framework that accommodates copyright law and a rich creation model in order to cope with all the creation life cycle stages. The dynamic aspects of value chains are modelled using a hybrid approach that combines ontology-based and rule-based mechanisms. The ontology implementation is based on Web Ontology Language and Description Logic (OWL-DL) reasoners, are directly used for license checking. On the other hand, for more complex aspects of the dynamics of content value chains, rule languages are the choice.

While dedicated registries are generally tied to a particular format, general-purpose ones are more adherent to standards and usually rely on Web Service Definition Language (WSDL). Although WSDL is quite flexible to support common Web services types, its lack of semantic expressiveness led to various initiatives to describe Web services via ontology languages. Nevertheless, WSDL 2.0 descriptions gained a standard representation based on Web Ontology Language (OWL). BioSWR is a novel Web services registry that provides standard Resource Description Framework (RDF) based Web services descriptions along with the traditional WSDL based ones. The registry provides Web-based interface for Web services registration, querying and annotation, and is also accessible programmatically via Representational State Transfer (REST) API or using a SPARQL Protocol and RDF Query Language. El projecte centra els seus esforços en la darrera activitat: el refactoring d'ontologies. En concret, les expressades en OWL, el llenguatge per a ontologies pensat pel W3C. El resultat final del projecte ha estat la implementació en Java d'un plugin per a Protégé que permet l'execució d'operacions de refactoring sobre ontologies OWL. Part principal del plugin és un framework que ofereix el marc d'execució per a les operacions implementades i permet incorporar noves operacions sense haver-lo de modificar.

Aquest projecte consisteix en generar un programa escrit en llenguatge Java, que utilitzant un motor d'inferència a través d'una llibreria anomenada JESS, pugui llegir un document en format OWL que és una representació de l'ontologia (representació del coneixement) sobre una assignatura, transformant-lo al format de triples que és capaç d'interpretar JESS.

L'objectiu general d'aquest treball és conèixer el concepte de web semàntica i aprofundir-hi, i també entendre els principis bàsics d'algunes de les tecnologies en què recolza: les ontologies, l'XML, l'RDF i l'OWL.

En aquest treball es realitza una descripció dels llenguatges que constitueixen la base de la construcció de la Web Semàntica: l'XML, l'RDF i l'OWL. En concret, es realitza un estudi de la base de dades lèxica WordNet. Finalment, es presenta el disseny i la implementació d'una ontologia per representar les relacions lèxiques dels mots del català. A partir d'aquesta ontologia es crea una petita base de dades basada en la temàtica dels animals de companyia. Aquest cas pràctic permet extreure conclusions sobre els avantatges d'introduir metadades en els documents electrònics, i sobre les facilitats que ofereixen les aplicacions actuals pel desenvolupament d'aquest tipus de documents.

Análisis, diseño y desarrollo de un aplicativo que a partir de un fichero con formato "PGN" genere dos tipos distintos de fichero, el primero será una página HTML con contenido gráfico que represente las posiciones, soluciones y datos complementarios de cada posición, y el segundo fichero contendrá una base de conocimiento en formato OWL, ontología compuesta de clases y propiedades, previamente definidas con Protégé, y de individuos que serán creados dinámicamente a partir de la información contenida en el fichero PGN de entrada.
Analysis and evaluation of techniques for the extraction of classes in the ontology learning process

This paper analyzes and evaluates, in the context of Ontology learning, some techniques to identify and extract candidate terms to classes of a taxonomy. Besides, this work points out some inconsistencies that may be occurring in the preprocessing of text corpus, and proposes techniques to obtain good terms candidate to classes of a taxonomy.

This paper presents the platform developed in the PANACEA project, a distributed factory that automates the stages involved in the acquisition, production, updating and maintenance of Language Resources required by Machine Translation and other Language Technologies. We adopt a set of tools that have been successfully used in the Bioinformatics field, they are adapted to the needs of our field and used to deploy web services, which can be combined to build more complex processing chains (workflows). This paper describes the platform and its different components (web services, registry, workflows, social network and interoperability). We demonstrate the scalability of the platform by carrying out a set of massive data experiments. Finally, a validation of the platform across a set of required criteria proves its usability for different types of users (non-technical users and providers).

Collaborative activities, in which students actively interact with each other, have proved to provide significant learning benefits. In Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL), these collaborative activities are assisted by technologies. However, the use of computers does not guarantee collaboration, as free collaboration does not necessary lead to fruitful learning. Therefore, practitioners need to design CSCL scripts that structure the collaborative settings so that they promote learning. However, not all teachers have the technical and pedagogical background needed to design such scripts. With the aim of assisting teachers in designing effective CSCL scripts, we propose a model to support the selection of reusable good practices (formulated as patterns) so that they can be used as a starting point for their own designs. This model is based on a pattern ontology that computationally represents the knowledge captured on a pattern language for the design of CSCL scripts. A preliminary evaluation of the proposed approach is provided with two examples based on a set of meaningful interrelated patters computationally represented with the pattern ontology, and a paper prototyping experience carried out with two teaches. The results offer interesting insights towards the implementation of the pattern ontology in software tools.
