Mourning becomes Electra d'Eugene O'Neill: Èsquil i Plató per a crear un drama fosc?

The fundamental debt of E. O'Neill's Mourning Becomes Electra to Aeschylus, and to a lesser degree to Sophocles and Euripides, has been always recognised but, according to the author's hypothesis, O'Neill might have taken advantage of the Platonic image of the cave in order to magnify his both Greek and American drama. It is certainly a risky hypothesis that stricto sensu cannot be proved, but it is also reader's right to evaluate the plausibility and the possible dramatic benefit derived from such a reading. Besides indicating to what degree some of the essential themes of Platonic philosophy concerning darkness, light or the flight from the prison of the material world are not extraneous to O'Neill's work, the author proves he was aware of the Platonic image of the cave thanks to its capital importance in the work of some of his intellectual mentors such as F. Nietzsche or Oscar Wilde. Nevertheless, the most significant aim of the author's article is to emphasize both the dramatic benefits and the logical reflections derived, as said before, from reading little by little O'Neill's drama bearing in mind the above mentioned Platonic parameter.

Indagación edípica e ironía trágica: el modelo sofocleo en Cat on a Hot Tin Roof de Tennessee Williams

Dado que el referente clásico "Edipo en busca de su identidad" ha sido siempre reconocido para Suddenly Last Summer , el autor de este artículo, mediante un análisis minucioso del texto del dramaturgo americano, propone leer en este caso Cat on a Hot Tin Roof desde el modelo Edipo Rey de Sófocles y descubrir en él igualmente la tradicional ironía clásica tanto desde el punto de vista del espectador como de los mismos personajes principales, Brick y su padre, ambos en busca de su verdad, una verdad, claro está, contraria a la esperada.

Billy Budd: de H. Melville a E. M. Forster, o la via Plutarquea vers Plató

L'objectiu d'aquest article és proposar i fonamentar una via plutarquea -no només Les Vides Paral·leles, sinó també L'Eròtic- vers el contingut platònic de Billy Budd de B. Britten amb libretto d'E. M. Fosrter en col·laboració amb Eric Crozier. H. Melville no cita pas Plutarc en la seva novel·la, però l'excel·lent coneixement dels textos de l'escriptor i filòsof grec per part d'E. M. Foster fa que aquesta hipòtesi sigui altament versemblant.

El objetivo de este artículo es proponer y fundamentar una vía plutarquea -no sólo Las Vidas Parelelas, sino tambén El Eròtico- al contenido platónico de Billy Budd de B. Britten con libreto de E. M. Foster en colaboración con Eric Crozier. H. Melville no cita a Plutarco en su novela, pero el excelente conocimiento de los textos del escritor y filósofo griego por parte de E. M. Forster hace que esta hipótesis sea altamente verosímil.

The aim of this article is to propose and lay the foundations of a Plutarch's way ¿not only his Lives but also his Eroticus- to the Platonic content of Billy Budd by B. Britten with a libretto by E. M. Forster in association with Eric Crozier. Plutarch is not quoted in H. Melville¿s novel, but E. M. Forster¿s good knowledge of the texts by the Greek writer and philosopher makes this hypothesis quite credible

Atès que el referent clàssic "Èdip en cerca de la seva identitat" ha estat sempre reconegut per a Suddenly Last Summer, l'autor d'aquest article, mitjançant una anàlisi acurada del text del dramaturg americà, proposa de llegir en aquest cas Can on a Hot tin Roof des del model Èdip Rei de Sòfocles i descobrir-hi igualment la tradicional ironia clàssica tant des del punt de vista de l'espectador com dels mateixos personatges principals, Brick i el seu pare, ambdós en cerca de la seva veritat, una veritat, és clar, contrària a la que esperaven.

The aim of this article is to analyze accurately the role played by two classical references, Venus and Oedipus, in Tennessee Williams¿s Suddenly Last Summer, in accordance with the usual nature of studies on Classical Tradition ¿Greek and Roman- and focusing in this case on the relationship between literature and mythology. It is thanks to Venus and Oedipus that the playwright succeeds in showing the magnitude of men¿s and women¿s tragedy, which from his point of view is simply that they have failed to see either kindness in the face of God or to feel his loving and fatherly providence.

This dissertation examines the issue of invasion as represented in American science fiction. American SF appears as a scenario in which to explore national identity-an identity that has been marked by the imaginary of invasion. The dissertation focuses in particular on the 1983 television series V, which articulates concerns typical of a nation that has established its hegemony on the basis of the separation between oneself and the other. V, as we argue, equals the expression of American identity with the fear of physical otherness, and the fear of the vulnerability of the national borders as the imaginary boundary that separates the American I from everything else

Amor i literatura: dos conceptes per a la creació d'una novel·la

Treball de recerca realitzat per una alumna d'ensenyament secundari i guardonat amb un Premi CIRIT per fomentar l'esperit cientí­fic del Jovent l'any 2009. L'amor, l'etern tema en el món literari és el protagonista de la temàtica en què se centra el projecte però, des de les primeres mostres literàries fins l'actualitat són infinites les creacions aparegudes. El treball s'ha centrat en algunes que són una digna representació de l'amor literari en cada època i en diverses parts de la literatura universal. Fins aquí un plantejament que no s'alunya de cap model realitzat dins de la temàtica de la literatura comparada. Però per solucionar la manca d'un fil conductor es va crear una novel·la que és la que guia aquest treball. Així es mostra el que una persona pot extreure llegint diverses obres d'amor literari, i no només sobre teories generals, sinó també d'opinions i pròpies emocions que provoca l'experiència de lectura. De la mà d en Marco, un jove veronès, i la seva vella amiga, la bibliotecària Sophie, es guia al lector a través d'un viatge que sorgeix de les primeres mostres d'amor escrit i arriba fins als nostres dies.

La literatura popular del nord del Marroc

Treball de recerca realitzat per una alumna d'ensenyament secundari i guardonat amb un Premi CIRIT per fomentar l'esperit cientí¬fic del Jovent l'any 2009. L’objectiu d’aquest treball és fer un recull de literatura de transmissió oral i reunir d’aquesta manera les històries, els contes, les llegendes. etc. que els avis de l’autora li contaven. Un dels objectius era que servís alhora de mitjà de coneixement per a tots els nens i nenes que, tenint un origen marroquí o berber, han nascut a Catalunya, per la qual cosa no han tingut accés a aquest tipus de literatura. Ja que, per una banda han estat sempre escolaritzats en català, i per l altra la font de coneixement que suposen els avis s ha quedat al Marroc. Aquests nens tenen poc coneixement sobre la seva cultura d’origen i més si aquesta gaudeix de poc valor.
