The Evolution of roommate networks: a comment on Jackson and Watts JET (2002)

We extend Jackson and Watts's (2002) result on the coincidence of S-stochastically stable and core stable networks from marriage problems to roommate problems. In particular, we show that the existence of a side-optimal core stable network, on which the proof of Jackson and Watts (2002) hinges, is not crucial for their result.

A Homogeneous Set-Theoretical Frame for Clustering Fuzzy Relational Data

Our purpose is to provide a set-theoretical frame to clustering fuzzy relational data basically based on cardinality of the fuzzy subsets that represent objects and their complementaries, without applying any crisp property. From this perspective we define a family of fuzzy similarity indexes which includes a set of fuzzy indexes introduced by Tolias et al, and we analyze under which conditions it is defined a fuzzy proximity relation. Following an original idea due to S. Miyamoto we evaluate the similarity between objects and features by means the same mathematical procedure. Joining these concepts and methods we establish an algorithm to clustering fuzzy relational data. Finally, we present an example to make clear all the process

The roots of success: industrial growth in Italy reconsidered, 1911- 1951

This article reconsiders the growth of Italian industry from the First World War to the eve of the economic miracle, with the aid of sector-specific new value-added series, at three different price-bases. The new estimates reduce growth during the First World War, making the Italian case comparable to the other belligerent countries, while improving the performance of the 1920s. The 1929 crisis looks more profound than before, while the recovery after 1933 is now stronger. During the 1920s and the 1930s, a significant shift from traditional to more advanced activities took place: when confronted with the rest of Europe, the interwar period was a relative success, which laid the ground for the following economic boom.

El estudio, además, enfoca la interacción como un acto inmersivo y reconoce en la incertidumbre las variables que determinan la continuidad y rumbo del relato. La investigación propone un modelo interpretativo para el análisis y la estructuración del espacio y la historia implícita. Y a nivel exploratorio, se propone la aplicación del Mouse Tracking como técnica científica.

Security analysts as frame-makers

In this paper we explore the mechanisms that allow securities analysts to value companies in contexts of Knightian uncertainty, that is, in the face of information that is unclear, subject to unforeseeable contingencies or to multiple interpretations. We address this question with a grounded-theory analysis of the reports written on Amazon.com by securities analyst Henry Blodget and rival analysts during the years 1998-2000. Our core finding is that analysts' reports are structured by internally consistent associations that includecategorizations, key metrics and analogies. We refer to these representations as calculative frames, and propose that analysts function as frame-makers - that is, asspecialized intermediaries that help investors value uncertain stocks. We conclude by considering the implications of frame-making for the rise of new industry categories, analysts' accuracy, and the regulatory debate on analysts'independence.

Aquest és un dels treballs de López Gómez que s'insereix en la línia d'estudi de les topografies mèdiques com a material molt útil per al¿estudi de la història de la medicina a nivell local. En aquest cas estudia les topografies mèdiques de la província de Burgos a partir de documents conservats a l¿Arxiu de la Reial Acadèmia de Medicina de Barcelona. També inclou un petit estudi sobre la biografia i obra del doctor Ildefonso Díez Santaolalla (1851-1929).

Joan Maragall y Pere Bosch Gimpera (1910-1911). Una amistad en torno a la traducción de los Himnos homéricos.

A finales de 1909, coincidiendo con el intento de procurar unas raíces clásicas a la lengua y literatura catalanas, Lluís Segalà i Estalella pedirá al poeta Joan Maragall su colaboración en la traducción y versificación en catalán de la Olímpica primera de Píndaro. Para ello, uno de sus alumnos, Pedro Bosch Gimpera, trabajará junto al poeta dando así inicio a una corta pero intensa relación de amistad y magisterio que tendrá su más perdurable expresión en la traducción y versificación de los Himnos homéricos. Escogida por la recién creada Sección Filológica del IEC como una obra emblemática para la difusión de las normas que debían regular el uso escrito del catalán, la edición sufrirá diversos avatares motivados por las divergencias surgidas entre Segalà y Bosch, así como por el apoyo que Maragall brindará a su joven amigo hasta su muerte en 1911. Reconstruida a partir de la correspondencia personal, la historia de la edición de los Himnos homéricos supone una aproximación a la figura de Bosch en la época en que la filología y la religión griegas constituían su objetivo de investigación, substituidas poco después por la prehistoria y la arqueología.

Reconstruction of the join time-delay Doppler-scale reflectivity density in the wide-band regime. A frame theory based approach

The inverse scattering problem concerning the determination of the joint time-delayDoppler-scale reflectivity density characterizing continuous target environments is addressed by recourse to the generalized frame theory. A reconstruction formula,involving the echoes of a frame of outgoing signals and its corresponding reciprocalframe, is developed. A ‘‘realistic’’ situation with respect to the transmission ofa finite number of signals is further considered. In such a case, our reconstruction formula is shown to yield the orthogonal projection of the reflectivity density onto a subspace generated by the transmitted signals.

Waveform-independent frame-timing acquisition for UWB signals

In this paper, the problem of frame-level symboltiming acquisition for UWB signals is addressed. The main goalis the derivation of a frame-level timing estimator which does notrequire any prior knowledge of neither the transmitted symbolsnor the received template waveform. The independence withrespect to the received waveform is of special interest in UWBcommunication systems, where a fast and accurate estimation ofthe end-to-end channel response is a challenging and computationallydemanding task. The proposed estimator is derived under theunconditional maximum likelihood criterion, and because of thelow power of UWB signals, the low-SNR assumption is adopted. Asa result, an optimal frame-level timing estimator is derived whichoutperforms existing acquisition methods in low-SNR scenarios.

Santiago Llensa nasqué a Hostalric (la Selva) el dia 9 de novembre de 1911. Era fili d'una familia arrelada a la comarca. Per part de la seva mare tenia però parents i interessos a Prada (el Confient), cosa que contribuí a fer que sempre mantingués uns certs lligams amb la cultura francesa.
