Mecanismes de Neocolonialisme: l'actual influència francesa i britànica al Camerun i a Ghana

Al llarg dels últims 50 anys, el concepte de neocolonialisme ha adquirit una importància central en el debats entre polítics i activistes sobre les dependències que encara afecten les antigues colònies, tot i que no hi ha consens sobre el seu significat exacte ni s’han desenvolupat eines per mesurar-lo. Aquest working paper té l’objectiu d’operativitzar el concepte de neocolonialisme per permetre’ns mesurar, amb una certa precisió, si aquest fenomen és present en un país determinat. Per ferho, es planteja un marc conceptual que inclou indicadors sobre la influència econòmica, política, financera i militar de les antigues potències colonials sobre les excolònies, i que s’aplica a dos casos d’estudi: el Camerun i Ghana. L’article descobreix que França conserva amb el Camerun una relació neocolonial en tots els sentits, mentre que el Regne Unit només manté sobre Ghana una influència econòmica i un lleuger control financer. En termes més generals, aquest paper identifica una tendència cap a la multilateralització i la privatització de les relacions, i estima que el marc conceptual és raonablement funcional.

Beyond the first steps: Sustaining Health OER Initiatives in Ghana

The introduction of open educational resources (OER) in two Ghanaian universities through a grant-funded project was embraced with a lot of enthusiasm. The project started on a high note and the Colleges of Health Sciences in the two universities produced a significant number of e-learning materials as health OER in the first year. Growing challenges such as faculty time commitments, technological and infrastructural constraints, shortage of technical expertise, lack of awareness beyond the early adopters and non-existent system for OER dissemination and use set in. These exposed the fact that institutional policy and integration was essential to ensure effective implementation and sustainability of OER efforts. Informed by the early OER experiences at the two institutions, this paper proposes that institutions in low resource settings perhaps need to pay close attention to awareness creation, initiative structuring, funding, capacity building, systemization for scalability and motivation if OER sustainability is to be achieved.

Missatges autoreferencials dels actors del ritual de l'Id-al-ad·ha

L'article analitza la celebració de l'Id-al-ad·ha o "festa del sacrifici", ritual protagonitzat per la comunitat de musulmans el desè dia del mes de dhu-al-hijja. Es parteix d'exemples etnogràfics procedents del context de la diàspora musulmana al Tarragonès i de la societat emiral mauritana. El fenomen s'analitza des dels rols que els actors exerceixen en el ritual. L'argumentació vol subratllar la idea que tot ritual s'inscriu en un context social específic del qual n'és producte alhora que modulador, per mitjà del que Roy Rappaport anomena "missatges autoreferencials". Això no exclou l'existència d'un conjunt de denominadors comuns o "missatges canònics" entre les diverses pràctiques rituals referides.

Las excavaciones en el yacimiento de Revenga dieron a conocer los testimonios arqueológicos correspondientes a la iglesia de este despoblado, así como su extensa área funeraria. Aquellos trabajos localizaron en el interior del espacio litúrgico una enigmática pileta rupestre a la que se atribuyó inicialmente una función de carácter bautismal. Sin embargo, la revisión de los testimonios arqueológicos, así como el avance de las investigaciones, sugieren que dicha cavidad rupestre se debería relacionar, de forma más plausible, con el lavado de los difuntos, una costumbre funeraria muy arraigada en época medieval que estuvo integrada de forma ordinaria entre los ritos que rodeaban las exequias cristianas.

El ritual funerari a la necròpolis del Coll del Moro, Gandesa (Terra Alta)

One of the five burials excavated in 1984 at the necropolis of Coll del Moro in Gandesa (Terra Alta-Tarragona) bore evidence of primary cremations. The tomb, a tumulus, yielded a cremation burial with a pottery urn and other vessels as funerary offerings. The chamber of the grave also contained bronze jewellery, basically bracelets. It is interesting to notice that the dead were cremated in the same place where the tomb was built. The complexity of the burial rite and the magnitude of some of the tumuli indicated a social structure consolidated with different grades of authority. We date these burials in the late Hallstatt but there is already evidence of commercial trade with punic people who arrived at the east coast in the second half of the seventh century BC and, from there, reached inland sites on the Ebro river and its afluents.

Microfinance and credit rationing in Ghana: Does the microfinance type matter?

This study sets out to examine the extent to which access to credit and credit rationing are influenced by the microfinance type based on the major factors determining micro, small and medium enterprises’ access to credit from microfinance institutions in the era of financial liberalization. The data for the study were gleaned from the microfinance institutions’ credit and loan records consisting of the various pieces of information provided by the borrowers in the application process. Our results are puzzling and show that credit rationing is not influenced by the microfinance types but by the individual microfinance institutions. Keywords: Microfinance, Ghana, Credit Rationing.
