Segons els coneixements i l’ experiència dels pescadors d’ arts menors de la Confraria de Palamós, s’ ha observat una dràstica davallada d’ algunes de les espècies d’ interès pesquer més representatives. La proposta d’ aquest sector es basa en declarar tota una zona d’ interès pesquer artesanal a l’ entorn de les Illes Formigues com a Reserva Marina d’ Interès Pesquer. Aquest projecte pretén esbrinar l’ evolució de la pesca artesanal al port de Palamós en el últims sis anys mitjançant l’ anàlisi cronològica a través del buidatge dels fulls de subhasta proporcionats per la Confraria de Palamós. En base els resultats obtinguts s’ ha fet una valoració de la situació actual que servirà com a punt de partida per al seguiment amb posterioritat. Finalment s’ han elaborat unes primeres propostes de gestió de cares a la possible futura creació de la reserva

L'objectiu principal d'aquest treball és la implementació, gestió i organització d’un producte innovador a la Costa Brava nord, el Pesca Turisme Cap de Creus. Entre els objectius secundaris hi trobem, en primer lloc, els de diversificar la oferta turística a l’entorn, potenciant els recursos locals de forma sostenible i amb qualitat i conscienciant al visitant de la necessitat del respecte pel medi ambient i els motius pels quals cal conservar-lo i preservar-lo. En segon lloc potenciar el consum de peix de proximitat el qual s’ha perdut el costum de prendre’n i és molt saludable i també bo de gust. En tercer lloc, sensibilitzar sobre la pesca tradicional com a patrimoni intangible. Notan sols la pesca en sí, sinó també el vocabulari del mar, les arts que s’utilitzen, leseines, els noms dels peixos. En quart lloc, promoure les diferents activitats relacionades amb el mar i el patrimoni marítim que es realitzen en aquest espai. En cinquè lloc donar valor afegit tant a la zona com a l’activitat en sí, dins el context del Cap de Creus, un paratge únic arreu. En sisè lloc, crear sinèrgies amb altres sectors com és el privat per tal de promoure el producte i també perquè s’hi impliqui en el foment de consum de productes locals i de proximitat. I en setè i últim lloc, organitzar, en un futur, esdeveniments o activitats comunes amb altres poblacions de la zona de la Mar d’Amunt, la zona nord del Cap de Creus, relacionades amb el mar

Aquest treball pretén investigar el cas de la introducció del producte turístic pescaturisme i es divideix en els apartats: 1. Marc teòric: mitjançant les dades secundàries es pretén referenciar el projecte amb altres casos d’estudi o investigacions relacionats amb temes de l’estudi en qüestió. És divideix el marc teòric en dos apartats més, on es qüestionarà l’obertura del sector pesquer al sector turístic així com les experiències turístiques que deriven de la realització d’aquesta activitat per part dels turistes. 2. Metodologia emprada: Degut a que l’estudi es basa principalment en la recerca de fonts primàries es creu convenient crear un apartat dedicat a com s’extrauran aquestes fonts, que es dividiran en primàries i secundàries. 3. Introducció al producte Pescaturisme: En aquest apartat s’estudiarà els casos de Pescaturisme al món, el cas del projecte pescaturisme a Roses, com està organitzat el projecte i en quin context turístic es situa. També es detallaran quins són els agents implicats i quins han estat els resultats sobre l’impacte mediàtic del producte. 4. Primers resultats durant la temporada 2013: Mitjançant els resultats obtinguts a través de la recerca quantitativa i qualitativa s’intentarà analitzar els resultats així com també diagnosticar-los per poder donar resposta a les hipòtesis o problemes d’estudi que s’han marcat en la introducció. Es l’apartat on s’exposaran i analitzaran els resultats obtinguts. 5. Conclusions: Per últim, com a resultat final de la recerca es pretén concloure l’estudi mitjançant les conclusions, explicant els trets més rellevants del projecte així com donar resposta als objectius inicialment marcats. 6. Futura recerca: El darrer apartat té com a objectiu establir les bases per a la futura recerca del projecte, és a dir, mitjançant l’anàlisi estudiat en l’apartat 2 s’intentarà rectificar i millorar l’estudi

Visual scuba diving censuses were used to assess the effects of fishing prohibition on abundance and size structure of littoral fish populations by comparing the same benthic communities inside and outside the protected area of Medes Islands (NE Catalonia, Spain). The total number of species found was 43 in the reserve and 44 outside, but the mean value of species richness per sampling station was significantly higher in the protected area. However, diversity, heavily affected by the presence or absence of large schools of pelagic species, showed no significant differences between sites. The prohibition of fishing for 6 years is the first factor affecting the qualitative and quantitative structure of fish populations ('reserve effect'), and depth is the second factor. Thus, except in the cases of Serranus cabrilla and Mullus surmuletus, all other vulnerable species are highly sensitive to the protection measures. The size structure of all vulnerable species was found to be absolutely different at the reserve sites than in the unprotected zones, and the modal size classes of size frequency distributions were always higher in the reserve than outside. The reserve effect was significantly responsible of the differences observed in this change on size structure. Some highly vulnerable species, such as Epinephelus guaza and Sciaena umbra, have only been found in the protected area. Others, such as Sparus aurata, Diplodus cervinus and Dicentrarchus labrax, were much more frequent inside the reserve.

The theoretical aspects and the associated software of a bioeconomic model for Mediterranean fisheries are presented. The first objective of the model is to reproduce the bioeconomic conditions in which the fisheries occur. The model is, perforce, multispecies and multigear. The main management procedure is effort limitation. The model also incorporates the usual fishermen strategy of increasing efficiency to obtain increased fishing mortality while maintaining the nominal effort. This is modelled by means of a function relating the efficiency (or technological progress) with the capital invested in the fishery and time. A second objective is to simulate alternative management strategies. The model allows the operation of technical and economic management measures in the presence of different kind of events. Both deterministic and stochastic simulations can be performed. An application of this tool to the hake fishery off Catalonia is presented, considering the other species caught and the different gears used. Several alternative management measures are tested and their consequences for the stock and economy of fishermen are analysed.

Recent trends in technology transfer show an intensification of spin-off creation as a modality of university research commercialisation, complementary to the conventional ones, contract research and licensing. In this paper we analyse the evolution, objectives, resources and activities of a specialised unit –Technological Trampoline (TT) - in charge of new venture creation at the University of Girona (Catalonia-Spain). Based on two theoretical frameworks, Resource-based-view and Institutional Theory, we adopt a multi-dimensional approach to study the strategy of spinning-off new ventures at the University of Girona in terms of resources and activities, how this process is organised and if the outputs fit with this UdG’s objectives and the local environment. Our main contribution is an in-depth analysis of the spin-off creation unit with special emphasis on its variety of resources and activities. The results have a series of implications and recommendations at both university and TT level.

The spread of milk consumption was a significant change in the diet of Europeans, however it is one that has not been greatly studied with regard to the populations of Mediterranean Europe. In this article we shall analyse the ain circumstances that conditioned that process in Catalonia between the middle of the 19th century and 1936. In our study we shall argue that the consumption of milk in this area was only relevant in the 19th century in situations of illness or old age, and that it subsequently increased and acquired a new significance as a result of various factors. In particular, we shall emphasise: (a) the scientific advances in microbiology and nutrition, (b) the activities carried out by doctors and various public institutions to promote the consumption of fresh milk, and (c) the technological innovations in the milk producing sector. In Appendix 1 we show two maps representing the main territorial references that we shall mention.

In this note we quantify to what extent indirect taxation influences and distorts prices. To do so we use the networked accounting structure of the most recent input-output table of Catalonia, an autonomous region of Spain, to model price formation. The role of indirect taxation is considered both from a classical value perspective and a more neoclassical flavoured one. We show that they would yield equivalent results under some basic premises. The neoclassical perspective, however, offers a bit more flexibility to distinguish among different tax figures and hence provide a clearer disaggregate picture of how an indirect tax ends up affecting, and by how much, the cost structure.

This paper applies the so-called Multi-Scale Integrated Analysis of Societal and Ecosystem Metabolism (MuSIASEM) to the economy of the Spanish region of Catalonia. By applying Georgescu-Roegen's fund-flow model, it arrives at the conclusion that within a context of the end of cheap oil, the current development model based on the growth of low productivity sectors such as services and construction must change. The change is needed not only because of the increasing scarcity of affordable energy carriers, or because of the increasing environmental impact that the present development represents, but also because of an ageing population that demands labour productivity gains. This will imply industry requiring more energy consumption per worker in order to increase its productivity, and therefore its competitiveness. Thus, we conclude that energy intensity, and exosomatic energy metabolism of Catalonia will increase dramatically in the near future unless major conservation efforts are implemented in both the household and transport sectors.

The present paper analyses the link between firms’ decisions to innovate and the barriers that prevent them from being innovative. The aim is twofold. First, it analyses three groups of barriers to innovation: the cost of innovation projects, lack of knowledge and market conditions. Second, it presents the main steps taken by Catalan Government to promote the creation of new firms and to reduce barriers to innovation. The data set used is based on the 2004 official innovation survey of Catalonia which was taken from the Spanish CIS-4 sample. This sample includes individual information on 2,954 Catalan firms in manufacturing industries and knowledge-intensive services (KIS). The empirical analysis reveals pronounced differences regarding a firm’s propensity to innovate and its perception of barriers. Moreover, the results show that cost and knowledge barriers seem to be the most important and that there are substantial sectoral differences in the way that firms react to barriers. The results of this paper have important implications for the design of future public policy to promote entrepreneurship and innovation together.
