Elastic constants of bcc Cu-Al-Ni alloys

We have measured the adiabatic elastic constants of two Cu-Al-Ni martensitic alloys using ultrasonic methods and we have compared the results to recent neutron-scattering experiments. It is shown that the elastic behavior of Cu-Al-Ni alloys follows the same trends exhibited by other Cu-based alloys; in particular, the TA2 long-wavelength acoustic modes are softer than all other modes.

Elastic constants of Ni-Mn-Ga magnetic shape memory alloys

We have measured the adiabatic second order elastic constants of two Ni-Mn-Ga magnetic shape memory crystals with different martensitic transition temperatures, using ultrasonic methods. The temperature dependence of the elastic constants has been followed across the ferromagnetic transition and down to the martensitic transition temperature. Within experimental errors no noticeable change in any of the elastic constants has been observed at the Curie point. The temperature dependence of the shear elastic constant C' has been found to be very different for the two alloys. Such a different behavior is in agreement with recent theoretical predictions for systems undergoing multi-stage structural transitions.

Temperature and magnetic-field dependence of the elastic constants of Ni-Mn-Al magnetic Heusler alloy

We report on measurements of the adiabatic second-order elastic constants of the off-stoichiometric Ni54Mn23Al23 single-crystalline Heusler alloy. The variation in the temperature dependence of the elastic constants has been investigated across the magnetic transition and over a broad temperature range. Anomalies in the temperature behavior of the elastic constants have been found in the vicinity of the magnetic phase transition. Measurements under applied magnetic field, both isothermal and variable temperature, show that the value of the elastic constants depends on magnetic order, thus giving evidence for magnetoelastic coupling in this alloy system.

Elastic constants of the beta-Cu-Zn alloy system: A Monte Carlo study

Monte Carlo calculations of the isothermal elastic constants of the beta-CuxZn1-x alloy system as a function of the composition have been carried out. We assume the atoms interact via a two-body Morse potential function and use numerical values for the potential parameters evaluated taking into account experimental data. We find a quite good agreement between our results and the expected experimental behavior.

Influence of elastic anisotropy on structural nanoscale textures

We study the influence of elastic anisotropy on nanoscale precursor textures that exist in some shape-memory alloys and show that tweed occurs in the limit of high elastic anisotropy while a nanocluster phase-separated state occurs for values of anisotropy inhibiting the formation of martensite. These results are consistent with specific heat data, elastic constant measurements, and zero-field cooling or field cooling experiments in nonstoichiometric NiTi alloys.

Patrimoni Digital de Catalunya, a year and a half experience

E-repositories are part of the e-science, and they are based on the e-infrastructure. The Centre de Supercomputació de Catalunya (CESCA) together with the Consorci de Biblioteques Universitàries de Catalunya (CBUC) started in 1999 a cooperative repository, named TDR, to file, in digital format, the full-text of the read thesis at the universities of our country in order to spread them worldwide in open access, while at the same time, preserving the intellectual copyright of the authors. Since then, four additional cooperative repositories have been created: RECERCAT for research papers; RACO for scientific, cultural and erudite Catalan magazines; MDC for Catalan digital collections of pictures, maps, posters and old magazines; and PADICAT for archiving Catalan digital web content; The main objective of the latter is to archive Catalan web sites. That is, PADICAT collects, processes and provides permanent access to the entire cultural, scientific and general output of Catalonia in digital format. The repository manager is the Biblioteca de Catalunya, as the institution responsible for compiling, processing and distributing the bibliographic heritage of Catalonia, while CESCA is the technology partner. On September 11th, 2006 the repository went into operation for the general public, with some thirty websites archived. After one year and a half, it has 2.720 captures of more than 1.000 websites. This includes 34 million files (HTML, images...) and two terabytes of data. The objective of this paper is to present PADICAT and our experience developing and managing it.We describe the repository briefly, we explain the technology used to implement it and we comment our experiences during its first year and a half.

Mecanismes de reacció de sistemes catalítics amb èmfasi en carbens de Fischer i quantificació de l'aromaticitat en petites molècules inorgàniques cícliques i planes.

El tema principal del treball és sobre l'estudi teòric de l'estructura i reactivitat en carbens de Fischer de la forma (CO)5Cr=C(X)R (X= OH, NH2, OMe, NMe2 i R= CHCH2 i Ph). Particularment, el nostre interès va sorgir del tipus de reaccions de cicloadicció que donen lloc a la síntesi de productes naturals i fàrmacs de gran valor afegit. Hem estudiat els mecanismes de reacció dels casos més comuns de cicloanul•lació: la reacció de benzanul•lació de Dötz i ciclopentanulacions que es troben en competència amb el primer cas, derivats de l'inserció de acetilè i fenilacetilè. En l'últim pas de les reaccions que comporten la formació d'un sistema de més d'un anell, hi tenim una migració del complex metàl•lic de crom d'un extrem a un altre anomenat com rearranjament haptotròpic. Aleshores, hem investigat sobre els mecanismes de migració haptotròpica de Cr(CO)3 sobre hidrocarburs aromàtics policíclics analitzant l'efecte de la mida i la curvatura del sistema així com la complexació d'un segon fragment metàl•lic a la manera de coordinació als anells. D'una altre banda, vam estudiar l'aromaticitat en 54 cúmuls cíclics de molecules inorgàniques mitjançant metodologia desenvolupada al nostre grup de recerca i altres. Vam proposar la tècnica del scan-NICS com nova mesura quantitativa d'aromaticitat i reportar l'escassa correlació entre els distints índexs d'aromaticitat a la literatura. Finalment, com resultat de col•laboracions en estades de recerca, he desenvolupat propostes de mecanismes de reacció en sistemes catalítics de isonitrils i fosfinetà-amides i en dímers de gassos nobles.

Diseño de filtros de onda acústica basados en estructuras "half lattice"

En los últimos tiempos la telefonía móvil ha experimentado una reducción de los terminales gracias a la miniaturización de los filtros a frecuencias de microondas. Los filtros pasa banda más utilizados son los basados en la tecnología SAW, sin embargo son incompatibles con tecnologías de silicio y su comportamiento se degrada a frecuencias superiores de 3 GHz, por ello los estudios actuales se centran en la tecnología BAW. Las dos arquitecturas convencionales de filtros basados en resonadores BAW unidos eléctricamente son el ladder y lattice. Sin embargo, en este proyecto se estudiará la topología half lattice, la cual presenta un mejor comportamiento y unas dimensiones más reducidas. Para ello se obtendrán las ecuaciones de diseño del filtro, y con ellas se realizará la implementación a partir de la frecuencia central y el ancho de banda relativo.

Aspectes geomètrics i dinàmics de transformacions racionals planes

Donada una aplicació racional en una varietat complexa, Bellon i Viallet van definit l’entropia algebraica d’aquesta aplicació i van provar que aquest valor és un invariant biracional. Un invariant biracional equivalent és el grau asimptòtic, grau dinàmic o complexitat, definit per Boukraa i Maillard. Aquesta noció és propera a la complexitat definida per Arnold. Conjecturalment, el grau asimptòtic satisfà una recurrència lineal amb coeficients enters. Aquesta conjectura ha estat provada en el cas polinòmic en el pla afí complex per Favre i Jonsson i resta oberta en per al cas projectiu global i per al cas local. L’estudi de l’arbre valoratiu de Favre i Jonsson ha resultat clau per resoldre la conjectura en el cas polinòmic en el pla afí complex. El beneficiari ha estudiat l’arbre valoratiu global de Favre i Jonsson i ha reinterpretat algunes nocions i resultats des d’un punt de vista més geomètric. Així mateix, ha estudiat la demostració de la conjectura de Bellon – Viallet en el cas polinòmic en el pla afí complex com a primer pas per trobar una demostració en el cas local i projectiu global en estudis futurs. El projecte inclou un estudi detallat de l'arbre valoratiu global des d'un punt de vista geomètric i els primers passos de la demostració de la conjectura de Bellon - Viallet en el cas polinòmic en el pla afí complex que van efectuar Favre i Jonsson.

Descripción y análisis de la evaluación en el ámbito comunitario y estudio de las posibilidades de aplicación de los principios de la evaluación participativa en Planes de Desarrollo Comunitario de Cataluña

Els Plans de Desenvolupament Comunitari són una iniciativa que pretén, mitjançant activitats de caire socioeducatiu, cultural, formatiu i de lleure, treballar amb persones i col•lectius dels pobles i ciutats de Catalunya. Aquest treball té com a objectiu d’estudi analitzar el concepte de l’avaluació en l’àmbit comunitari que tenen els tècnics responsables dels Plans de Desenvolupament Comunitari de Catalunya; així com analitzar les pràctiques avaluatives que s’estan portant a terme i observar si es corresponen amb els principis teòrics i metodològiques de l’Avaluació Participativa

Análisis descriptivo de la información contenida en los Planes de Investigación Pediátricos (PIPs) resueltos por la Agencia Europea del Medicamento durante los años 2007-2009, para analizar tanto las características de los medicamentos que han presentado un PIP como las del propio plan de investigación. También se analizan los grupos terapéuticos a los que pertenecen los medicamentos incluidos en los PIPs, las edades de la población pediátrica incluidas en los PIPs y los estudios incluidos en los PIPs.

New trends in world wine consumption and its impact on the Spanish wineries during the second half of the twentieth century

The main goal of this research is explain the impact of the new trends of wine consumption, and the way these enterprises adapted to the circumstances. The hypothesis is that the Spanish companies had to start a deep and traumatic restructuring process, with the aim of surviving adequately in the changeable wine national and international markets. Heavy technological investments were made, with serious finance problems, during the eighties and nineties. We will see this from two specific cases, the Cooperatives "San Isidro" and "Rosario", located in the Region of Murcia, in the Spanish southeast.
